How a player like Carrazzo can continue to be selected and gain praise completely baffles me. I dont know why it is accepted that an AFL player, midfielder at that, can continually miss targets and turn the ball over. His ability to accumulate possessions works as a detriment to the Carlton game plan - it stops players like Stevens, Gibbs, Murphy using it (far more accurately/cleverly) instead.

We are not going to improve until we clear out these ill-skilled hindrances on our list.

Re: Honest to God

a little harsh. I'd argue he was better than Murph by a long way tonight. But lets not be too critical - it's just a practice match! When Walker and Judd come back in you'll find out how handy Carrots will be for us as a 4th-5th stringer. He'll rack 'em up and does have good polish when he is given time and space.

Speaking of Mids, Stevens was excellent tonight. Maybe didn't set the world on fire, but he was head over the ball and did a lot of gut busting running - seemed to be everywhere. I really enjoyed his speach after the game to the boys - he showed great leadership!!

The kid has a lot of heart and determination but if I were picking the side he would not get a game.

I don't know why anyone would think that the year after someone wins the B&F, that they should then be sacked.
To dispose of the ball well, you have to get the pill first, and that is what Carrazzo does and does well. He may not have the best disposal in the team, but he makes up for it in other areas, and whether you like it or not, is in our best dozen or so players.
There are other players that should have the spotlight on them instead of Carrazzo at the moment.

When we are actually playing for points then i will care, it's only nab cup, at least he runs straight lines at the footy. It's a little early to be so critical and negative isn't it, don't read too much into these games so early on...

Re: Honest to God

It's getting to the stage where I can't watch Carrots running downfield with the ball. I can hear his mind racing wondering which non-option he will butcher with an up and over widow-maker pass. He was awful tonight.

Murphy has looked like an also-ran thus far this season although his second half was much better. Just shows even our better players can lose touch when they lose confidence.

Was surprised to see JR in the group as they walked off. Had no idea he had played.

Jake Edwards is lost.

Waitey is being confused by constant positional changes. He's a CHF I'm afraid.

Opposition callers on SEN were openly laughing at Setanta's chances of becoming an AFL footballer. Interesting.

Simpson was very good tonight.

Stevo was very good tonight as was Gibbsy. He needs to believe more in himself and take players on. Forget the 15 meter chip kicks.

Ellard (?) showed glimpses of classy play.

Kreuzer covers more ground than just about anyone in the team. You have to be at the ground to see the mileage the kid puts in. He went well tonight after a bit of stage fright. He'll hold his marks and kick his goals in the future I''m sure.

More later I'm sure.

if your not going to dispose of it properly then u might as well not get it in the first place. Both Carrazo and murphy were awful tonite.

Re: Honest to God

Some of your players had a game they'd love to forget today (yesterday?) but writing them off for a preseason game is a little premature, wouldn't you say?
Perhaps if this thread was brought up about his performance a couple of rounds into the main competition you could argue your point successfully, but it's just too insignificant an event to start committing people for their performances.

Foreshadower? Maybe.

Catalyst? Definitely not.

Re: Honest to God

Re: Honest to God

This thread is not limited to tonight's match.

There are certain players that i feel comfortable with when they are in possession of the ball (Stevens, Gibbs, in-form Murphy, Scotland), but honestly, every time Carrots is about to dispose of the pill i cringe and close my eyes.

All of you who are saying "ohhh give him a break he gets 30 touches a game". 30 touches in a game for Carrazzo translates into an extra 30 turnovers in a game for Carlton.

Re: Honest to God

Our B&F winners are cursed sometimes. Lance had a shocker after winning, McKernan likewise, Teague dropped away alarmingly. I am hoping that Judd wins a brownlow but misses the best and fairest.

I agree with all your comments.

We did overuse the ball under pressure. The kids also need to learn how to control the tempo of a game (like sydney). Our guys should have totally slowed the game down in the first quarter when Hawthorn were having their run.
A bit more experience and games into our guys may bring an understanding on when and how to control the speed of the game

Re: Honest to God

Just until the pain starts to dull.
There really shouldn't be that much pain, a loss in a pre-season cup match?

Lots of people are looking far too deep into this. It's so early in the season and the mobys are still stale. Another two to three weeks and we'll be fine.

Re: Honest to God

Carrots had a crack last night, his disposal didn't. His handballing in the first quarter was crap and should have been better. Saying that it still only pre season, and like others, he will learn from that! At least he didn't give up and drop his head, he kept on having a go, and that is all you can ask.
