Thought Id just start a seperate thread which we can post our thoughts and stats etc. instead of it being hidden in a different thread.

The SANFL Power Players Round 1:

Norwood v Sturt:
BP - Farmer
FP - Thomson
BP - Lower

North v Eagles:
W - Lonie
CHF - Salter
Res - M Motlop (HBF)
Res - Grose (FB)

Central v Port
HBF - Williams
INT - Boyle
Res - Giles
Res - M Westhoff
Res - Lobbe
Res - Krakouer

NO:
Willits, Cockshell, Bentley, White, Deluca, Gray, Minson

I'll be looking with particular interest how all those guys go, particular Farmer, Salter, Williams, Boyle, Krakouer, and Lobbe, the last 2 albeit in the Reserves.

Hopefully with the week off for Gray hes fresh to resume next week. Deluca should be back after one more week as well.

Sturt smashed Norwood by 10 goals. The Legs only kicked 4, so Farmer must have gone ok.

According to a certain Norwood FC tragic  on an SANFL forum, Farmer stood ex Sydney player Simon Phillips and held him to 5 touches, basically gave him a bath apparently.

Mate Farmer was outstanding, really impressed me tonight. On debut he looked at ease and he completely shut down Phillips who was coming into the game with good form. Farmer paid close attention to him and didn’t allow him to get a sniff. As well as limiting Phillips to only a handful of possessions, he won a bit of the ball himself and generally used it well. His first kick was a bit of a shocker and he missed his intended target by a fair way and it went out of bounds. But from then on he used it well and provided a bit of run. He took a beautiful overhead mark when 1-on-1 where he judged it to perfection. He then played on, lost his footing but managed to slip out the handball to a running teammate. He looks so classy and doesn’t look like one who will make many mistakes. I’d expect him to play quite a few AFL games this year.

And then there’s Adam Thomson. He would probably get my vote for BOG tonight. 4 quarter performance and despite taking a few very heavy knocks he got up each time and continued to rack up the possessions. He kicked a goal early in the first quarter as he found himself in a ton of space. A few minutes later, he again found space and had another shot on goal. I think he missed but I could be wrong, my head hurts after seeing such a pathetic display. He would’ve had at least 25 possessions and most were quick handballs. His hands in heavy traffic are incredible; the amount of times when he dished out a handball when he was surrounded by the opposition or on his knees was amazing. Oh how I want him at the Crows. :(

And as for Nick Lower, he won a lot of the ball, especially after half time, but even if he was still out there getting possessions now I wouldn’t have him in our best players. You just watch the Advertiser slot him in there though but don't let it fool you, he was ordinary. Had about 3 free kicks against, kicked it on the full twice, had a possession efficiency rate of about 50% and he had more brain fades than normal.

My thoughts - Carna Bloods.

May miss them more than Port. It sounds obvious but it's harder to follow them than the Power over here in the UK.

Went to the game last night with a few mates, just to see how a few of our boys are progressing. Thommo was BOG for mine, he was in & under all night, won the contested football (great bit of play by him on the members wing) & put his body on the line.
Bentley played ok, got a bit of the footy but still wastes/turns over the footy a bit too much.
Farmer  he's just about ready to play afl now imo, silky skills and knows what to do with the footy - looks to have an extremely good football brain.

Lower was solid but made a couple of errors.

Not sure how many possessions each guy had as to be honest i never kept count, it's more enjoyable watching a football game as a neutral supporter while drinking coopers. ;)

Cool reports guys, thanks :thumbsu:

Thommo, Lower & Farmer. Now having those 3 playing would make a change to the attitude and aggression factor of our side. I hope Thommo can get a gig next week after his top effort last night, just can't work out why this guy hasn't played more AFL footy. He might not run like others, but boy, he does things others can't that we miss IMO. Think we just need to get Lower in asap. Not sure what more he can learn at SANFL level and would love to see him be given a decent run and see what he can bring to the table at AFL level. And Farmer, well looks like the draft guys have scored another damn good one there from all reports.

Young, aggressive and talented - music to my ears :thumbsu:.

tiser writers go by stats and whoever looks flashy to them. Their even worse at SANFL level. If Thommo played a dirt under your fingernails game they wouldn't have noticed. As Drummond predicted, Lower made the best players. Now Drum likes Lower but even he said he shouldn't be in the best.

A famous story goes around that a local footy writer once asked Bob McLean who his best players were after a particular game. The journo was well known among the footy people at the club for not really having a clue (maybe watching games in the bar, I'm not sure) so McLean gave him two standouts and a player who had a dog of a game. Sure enough all three topped the best players.

Will be going to the game this arv so will be keeping an eye on Krak and Lobbe.. Choppy is in the res as well for anyone thats interested.

Should be a good hard and very muddy game with all the rain that we've copped down here this morning.

Yeah cant get up to Lizbff tonight so any reports would be great Shaz.

Cheers for the report Drummond. Great detail and much appreciated :thumbsu:

I really hope Thommo makes it this year. He seems on the outer already but if he keeps having really strong tough performances then he just has to come in. We still need a player of his ilk, whether he looks lazy at times or not.

Bentley is never going to be a star but hes a good depth player and all we can ask is that he plays consistently well at Sturt...which he does.

Lower, Id still like to see him come in sooner rather than later.

After getting beaten at the clearances despite hammering Geelong in the ruck, you'd hope Thommo would be high on the list of possible inclusions. Would've been an ideal in against Sydney, but he's had almost no pre-season footy to speak of.

Problem is who are Thomson, Lower, Bentley, Krakouer, Gray, Farmer, etc. gonna replace in the side to get a game???

Thomson would have to take the spot of a Rodan, to get a game, or if we go smaller next week he could take the spot of a Carlile, but it will be hard for him to sneak in there.

Lower & Farmer are in direct competition with Stewart & Thomas, and Thomas looks to be earning himself a berth as a regular so Stewart is the only real player they could displace. Surjan has earn't his spot and is too valuable to drop.

Bentley & Gray would have to take Stewarts spot directly, and be brought in for a tag or to be an additional forward option respectively.

And Krakouer will again need to take that spot of a Stewart or rely on us going smaller and taking the spot of a Carlile. Because the only players he could replace are Boak or Pearce and I dont see that happening.

Lonie has a typical game for north today with 30 possessions - 90 %uncontested.

Only 90%...thats an improvement! :thumbsu: ;)

Magpies lost. Played alright though. Ressies lost so not sure how Lobbe and the Centrals boys went.

Williams and Boyle played in the league. Both seemed to play alright by the sounds of it. Williams was in it early. Boyle did some great things but also got reported for striking Rugolo.
