would love to see it be waite. or a MAJOR sponsor.

do we really need to be signing people for 5 years atm? yes murphy looks good but were still crap and injuries etc. i'd rather not be getting into this longer term deals

ps: judd is different...obviously

Stevo too old for a 5 year deal.....and they gave hin a 2 year deal when the surgeon gave him the ok to play again......try again I reckon

Maybe they moved to tie Hammer to the club with GC on the horizon ?

we just signed Juddy for 5 years.... i dont think that we would be offering Hammer 3 let alone 5

  • EXCLUSIVE BRENDAN Fevola has imposed a career-long alcohol ban on himself in a bid to stabilise his life and future at Carlton.
A day after Wayne Carey's tell-all about his drug and alcohol abuse, it has been revealed Fevola has started professional counselling to deal with his highly-publicised alcohol issues.
He is also addressing, to a lesser extent, a gambling "hobby".

In a major step forward, Fevola has told confidantes he will not drink throughout the football season and not join end-of-season football trips.

It means, at 27, the $500,000-a-season forward is likely to be off alcohol for the next five years.
Blues chief executive Greg Swann yesterday said he was aware of Fevola's decision to ban the demon drink.

"It's what Brendan has told people but the proof will be in the pudding. The proof will be in his actions" Swann said.

"But I'm pleased he has given this undertaking. He's started the process."

It is not known if Fevola has imposed the grog ban in his "holidays", the six-week break over summer.
Historically, through this period, Fevola has allegedly embarked on alcohol binges.

Fevola is working closely with Carlton's welfare officer, former player Rod Ashman, and football manager Stephen Icke, in a bid to deal with his issues.

Support from his socially active wife, Alex, is believed paramount.

It is understood the professional counselling revolves around changing mindset and behaviour and, much like Carey's revelations about his rehabilitation, about taking a person out of "danger" situations such as late-night bars, pubs and nightclubs.

Basically, Fevola is seeking a lifestyle change.

As part of this, it's understood Fevola, a keen poker player at both invitational and online tournaments, has reduced his involvement in what has become one of the most popular past-times among players.

Alcohol and Fevola has been a headline waiting to happen since he began his career.

His rap sheet includes urinating in public, wrestling a barman in Ireland and letting off fire extinguishers on a university campus.

However, his behaviour without alcohol has been exemplary. Popular with kids, sponsors and supporters, he has been described as a terrific person to be around.

He is a better footballer off the grog, too.

In 2006, under coach Denis Pagan, Fevola won the Coleman Medal with 84 goals after swearing off alcohol from New Year's Eve until the the end of the season.

After his latest indiscretion - being caught urinating on a Prahran bar window at 4am on March 16 - the Blues warned Fevola that another alcohol-related incident would mean instant dismissal.

Swann laid down the law after the Candy Bar fiasco, but with coach Brett Ratten, has been pleased and supportive of Fevola's behaviour.

"He was certainly pretty sheepish immediately after the event, but he's been training well," Swann said yesterday.

Fevola is out of contract at the end of 2008, and a decision on his future with the Blues is likely to be put off until then.

"He is out of contract, he's got that black cloud hanging over his head in regards to behaviour and that will determine what happens," Swann said.

Carlton refused permission to talk to Fevola yesterday.

a sneak preview of the herald sun was on SEN, stating in an article someone from carlton has committed themselves to the club for 5 years, meant to be a good story, thats all that was mentioned.
Would have to be a big name player, maybe Judd, stevens, murphy? Don't know what their contract status is though....

The truth is a long way from this.
