No I missed the game tonight. Just going off what I saw on TV i'm afraid.

I saw that bit with Fev but couldn't see who the player was. That was really weak and I was very pissed off at that. If that was Stanton then I'll have to revise my estimation. Soft.

Yes it was definately Stants and their were another few occasions where he did the same sort of thing.

There was also a couple of times where his opponent burst forward from the centre and he just looked at him run past him and then didn't even bother to chase instead prefering to look around at his team mates pointing. The guy may not have been his man but he was next to him at the time and should have made an effort.

I like Stants but i think he heas been our biggest dissapointment so far this season once you factor in what is expected of certain players.

Out: Pev, Jetta. (Maybe: Lonergan)
In: Welsh, Lovett-Murray. (Slattery? JJ? Neagle? CJ?)

We could use some bigger bodies in the forward line who can kick goals, I think we have enough small/fast guys in the team that we don't need to replace like-for-like.

Pev was bad tonight. Should be dropped.
Monfries didn't stay in it enough but tried.
Dyson used it well be didn't get enough of it again this week.
Houli was hardly in it but showed in flashes what he can do. Once he can put a full game together and work on his handball he'll be really useful.
Lonergan tried hard but his skills were bad and his tackling, while had intensity, was pretty poor. 50/50 on dropping him, probably keep him due to not having anyone to take his place.
Lovett was good and kicked some key goals when we needed them. I thought he should have got that other one too, looked like it was touched by the carlton player behind the line (he hit it back but it still didn't cross back into play--therefore he must have been behind the line when he hit it back in, therefore it was a goal).
Fletch had a bad game by his standards but was ok.
Mal was unlucky and still a little slow for Fev. I thought he was good otherwise.
Ryder is class, I can't get enough of him. I wish he played more around the ground.
Davey was good again. Love the guy.
Hille was out of at times but lifted at the end. Still needs to kick more goals given his puts himself in the right place to do so every week.
Jetta will be missed. Would have been nice to see some goals from him.
Laycock still needs to get that marking down. Great kick. If only he could get Hills marking ability and mobility but retain his kicking, and vice-versa.
Lloyd was average, took some good marks, could have got more goals but still got some very useful ones.
McPhee was one of our best, his leading up the ground and overall movement was exactly when we need of him. Stood up in the pressure with his marking this week. ;)
McVeigh: Super. Hope to see more games like this from him this year and less like the Geelong game.
Nash didn't use the ball tonight as well as he can.
Rama was average.
Reimers. Not sure what to say about him, could have done better in some aspects but used the ball ok most of the time, kicked a handy goal and looked compsed.
Stanton was good in the second half, ran hard and used the ball well.
Watson was down and it showed for the second week in a row. When he's not firing we have little in the stoppages. He needs help from others.
Winders was ok.

By not being at the game you missed the three very good blocks that Lonergan put on to set up goals for us. I thought he was very good. He presented as a good target up forward and kicked two goals at pressure times during the game. I can not agree that he needs to be dropped. He is one of the few midfielders who will get in and block/sheppherd and put his body on the line.

Not sure what they can do with Stants. He should be dropped on principle for stepping out of Fevs way and letting him take an easy mark. It simply was not good enough. Three weeks in a row he has side stepped a contest. I know he is an outside player and that is fine but at various stages you have to take one for the team and he just isnt doing that at the moment.
I don't think his running to position is as good as it has been in the past either. He is struggling for form and it looks like a bit of confidence as well and it is getting close to the stage where they have have to give him a run in the two's to see if they can sort it out.

In: ?? Everyones injured - Maybe Atkinson, JJ
Outs: Jetta(inj), McVeigh(susp), Pev(?)

You have to remember that Pev for the most part was on Judd so he can be excused a little for getting smashed. He also had his head split open in the first quarter.

Our midfielders keep on underperforming - Stanton, Dyson, Watson.

If you analyse the game today not knowing the score and just look at stats, best players and the like you would wonder how the hell we won. I guess that's a good sign as we had so many below par performances yet we still won

We'll want tall forwards to test their defence and lots of running players

IN: Neagle, Welsh, NLM

OUT: Pev, Jetta, Monfries

Is is just me or did Jobe have a terrible night.
Being at the game i noticed that he really struggled on occasions running both ways. Hadley had him and he just can't stay with his man, he's simply not quick enough. If he can fix that area of his game, he'll be a great player

Couldn't agree with you more about Lonergan. I thought he did some great stuff for us and the kid is as tough as nails. In my fist post about Stants i was going to mention that Stants would be well advised to watch a video of how Lonergan makes contests and takes one for the team at times. Some of his blocks and work off the ball was fantastic. He works really hard. :thumbsu:

Ant do you have any idea if Hislop and or Hocking are far away from pressing for senior selection? I would personally rather have either of these two come in instead of JJ but i really think we need a few more hard bodies in the centre so if they are not ready maybe they have to bring in JJ.

Saw him last night, had a cast and will still probably be 3-4 weeks away.

i was at the game and i saw that mal was way too slow for fev. he kicked about 5 goals when mal was on him and as soon as we put ryder on him he only got 1.

ummm ins and outs:
IN: Lovett Murray (if he's alright to play)
OUT: Jetta :( (inj)

Like someone else has mentioned Hislop is a good three to four weeks away. Hocking played a half in the Bendigo seconds yesterday . Guess it depends on how he pulls up. If he is ok then he would be likely to play a full game with Bendigo next week before being selected. If he is still having problems with groin soreness then it could well be operation time.

Mal also punched about 4 or 5 balls out of Fevnola's hands and stopped him from kicking even more.

Fevnola might be the world's greatest f-wit,but he's a damn good full forward and hard to stop when on fire.

We should be looking up the field and asking how come so many passes came his way...?

I am going to make a suggestion from left field. Does Mal Michael need to play next week? Do we need him against the Bulldogs? Remember last year against the Bulldogs, Mal sat on the bench and went forward for few minutes here and there.

Likes of Cooney, Johnson & Aker killed us up forward. (ie. their small forwards).

Even if he plays who can Mal play on?

Minson? Maybe too tall for him

not Minson, Hahn.

IN: Neagle, NLM, JJ
OUT: Jetta, Pev, Hille (neck injury)

there's not a hell of a lot to bring in with injuries etc. minimal changes - pev can go with west this week if he stays in - if he goes out jj gets another go probably.

jetta is out obviously and we would want to retain pace against bulldogs. can't see the value of having jj and pev in the same side, neagle isn't fit, nor welsh, lovett murray, gumby

big call but should they consider throwing myers in for his debut (realise he missed playing last 2 weeks with hamy strain) but he looked pretty good at training. given he played pracy matches his fitness should be quite good.

Out: Jetta
In: Myers[/B](the messiah)

Minson and Hudson were swapping down forward in parts on Friday night. Neither of them seem overly strong over head or let alone hardly even taken a mark inside 50 so Mal could be a good match up. Round 1 last year Fletcher played on Welsh and was one of Essendon best against Adelaide and keeped Welsh out of the game

I was a bit dissapointed by knights in the 3rd quarter where we were getting smashed by Stevens in the stoppages, and we had our best stoppage player (Jobe), playing in the goalsquare. Weren't in trouble in the forward with a high score of already over 100, and could've create that run we have by getting dirty and dishing it out of the pack.

Houli really needs to work harder to create space and provide more run. For one of the fittest blokes in the team he didn't run hard enough last night, hence his lack of possessions. Reimers got absolutely towelled up by Betts, will want to lift if he's any chance to retain his spot, although he did look good in spurts. Not sure of any changes as of yet due to injury concerns so will assess later in the week.

Happy with the win though! :thumbsu:

Why Reimers was used as a defender for a portion of the game i don't know (maybe for development?). He is an attacking midfielder or forward and thats where he should be playing. We've all seen how damaging he is infront of goals

We still looked very poor when it came to clearances last night, and I was wrong to think that Peverill would do just as well as JJ in the clearances but bring better disposal so we'll have to swap those two around again since we have no other clearance players fit.

I wouldn't mind seeing Atkinson come in also, but im not exactly sure who he'd come in for though.

you gotta be kidding me. why would u drop monfries he was fantastic last night. To be honest didn't think pev was that bad as people are saying (yes i was at the game)

IN: Welsh, Neagle,
OUT: Jetta, Probably Pev,

I thought he played pretty poor, and the stats back that up aswell.

Coming into the game he role was probably to act as a tagger and a clearance player and he didn't do any of these effectively. He only had one clearance for the game, didn't keep his man quiet, and didn't get much of the ball (10 disposals -3 of them clangers)
