Offering any alternatives at all???

T.Gaspar is a good player, been injured but has been included in the best team in the comp in the Prelim Final - can't be all that bad can he...? Is also 197cm, mobile, a good mark and can play forward or back. We don't have someone like this. I'm not saying he is the answer but rather floating the idea of pinching him from the Weagles, he wouldn't cost us much I wouldn't think.

Polak we won't get unfortunately. Crow is ok but I would rather take a Wayde Mills or James Wall with a late pick.

From all reports Kennedy plays CHF and CHB both well. He's obviously talented, is tall, mobile and takes a good pack mark. Sounds like CHB might be a position he can play. With draftees it's hard to tell exactly where they will end up playing so I understand your concerns there.

Thornton was injured last year, hence the white bandage around his year - remember the WC GF?

Bryan, Hartlett and Setanta are "maybes" for CHB which is a bit of a concern like you pointed out. They have the size to cover the position which is why many believe they may develop but for the time being Thornton is our best CHB IMO.

Karl Norman I would rather though at CHB as he has more skill, reach, speed, is a thumping kick, is a better mark and has much more mungrel in him. All key attributes for a good CHB.

Problem solved Paddy!!! Paul Bower, CHB. Great pickup.

Thanks for re-visiting this thread guys. Bower looks great as a future CHB. Next year he might get a taste of it along with guys like Hartlett and Setanta.

Edwards and Raso are very exciting KPP who need a bit more beef on them first.

Kennedy could play CHB in the future, hopefully more at CHF with stints at CHB as I would like Bower to make it his own.

The CFC has, IMO, got the best available key forward in Kennedy and best available key defender in Bower in this years draft. Edwards, they say, is very exciting and the Blues rated him higher than 36. At this very early stage I am extremely excited about getting 3 kids who can play key position. We need this badly.

I don't think it will take too long for these guys to develop in regular senior CFC players. No rush. Let's hope Hartlett, Bryan, Setanta, Saddington and Raso can develop and play seniors quite a bit next year and make an impact on the side.

Geez he was good today. If we weren't so chock full of unexpected positives we'd be jumping up and down about Bower like Collingwood supporters going on about Brown.

Had 20 possesions and kept Cloke to 9 disposals and only 1 goal. A great effort and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Unfortunately didn't see the game today. Did Bower stand Cloke for all the game? How did he play him, side by side, in front or from behind??

The whole game. On his right shoulder. Matched him for run and pace. Cloke usually 'drops' his opponents with repeated effort running but couldn't put Bower away. Enormous effort. It wasn't so much the spoiling, or the possessions, it was really just that he never got on his own. Bower is also learning to relax with the ball in his hands and as a result his decision making is improving.

Huge 'breakout' game. Taking on Cloke one on one, no 'chop-out' and flogged him.

Regardless of how we went yesterday.

Fact is - we still need a dominant CHB.

Waite, Jamison, Thornton and Bower are all doing a pretty good job down there in our backline. Give them some more experience as a group, and I reckon these guys could be pretty good for the next few years. Waite would be the eldest of this group at 25.

We need a dominant CHF more than we need a CHB.

I hope we grab either with one of first two picks in the draft, but a midfielder or medium forward might be too hard for Hughes to ignore if he's there. ;)

Don't forget we still have Austin in reserve who is another tall defender with good legspeed and mobility for his height. :thumbsu:

I was surprised to see Bower handle Cloke because I thought he would play more like Ang and take one of their medium forwards.

Didn't think he would have the size and strength to handle Cloke.

Good coaching. :thumbsu:

PS. Who the ____ is Goldsack?
Don't worry ... I know a guy ;)
We'll probably climb out of the bottom four and miss out. ;)

Hawthown are overflowing with tall forward options, and will soon have to trade 1 or 2 of them. franklin, roughhead, boyle, dowler, thorpe, all good options. They may look to trade dowler and/or boyle.

:D some funny early posts there
Geeez....looking back at who we thought was going to be our best options down back just makes me realize how crap we really were, guys like bryan, livingston, saddington (his still bloody on the list) and lance in hindsight was a liability back there, what were we thinking?

Its a shame Karl Norman couldn't get his act together, think he would've made a fantastic backman.

So happy we finally have found some defenders, Waite is our CHB now so thats fixed, bower, thornton, jammo all coming on board now, thank god:)

Quality CHF is required, plus we need a medium to small forward desperately to help eddie out. No More defenders needed, think we hae enough now.

Franklin would be nice? somehow i dont think it will happen.......boyle? Not totally convinced by him, his a bit of a b grader, young dowler is supposed to be a good talent havent really seen enough of him to comment though i think the hawks rate him highly would be tough to get

Livo was thrown into the shark pool a couple of years too soon and had every single ounce of confidence in himself destroyed...

And the two players who destroyed their careers, Norman and Angwin, would be senior members of the team now... so talented and so ____ing stupid...

Fantastic to see Bower finally getting raps from some of his detractors... I dont think that he is a CHB... more of a rebounding HBF :)

Still... the game will do wonders for his confidence and he will explode from here now :)

Jarrad Waite! What more could you want - height, closing speed, leap and rebound. If he is left at CHB he will be the focal point of our defence for the next 6 years and will probably win AA once or twice

IMO If we still had JK we'd be over the moon with Waite at CHB. As you point out he has perfect athletic attributes for the position. He seems to be reducing the clanger kicks over time too. What we need is a CHF with some real presence to replace JK.

I agree with the vital need for a CHF without one we will continue to be 'fev conscious' (when he is on song this is awesome) but when he is not we struggle. Fisher is a great forward but he is not a strong enough player that will kick 2 or 3 goals a game which is the key now. To get someone who can take strong contested marks up the ground and inside fifty is essential. Hurley would be a great option in the draft this year but he will go to high (can play CHF and CHB).

You and I wouldn't be the great friends we are today. :D

Agree. CHF is our greater need, however, if Hampson continues to develop and IF Aisake makes the grade (a big if), we may have the luxury of developing Kreuzer into a more permanent CHF type (a bigger Riewoldt)
