yeah i cant believe we loosing our best player of last season:mad:
what is going on at SACA! stuffed up another contract:thumbsdown:
 
I have a funny feeling we dodged a bullet here.

For a bloke whose been around the place for about 7-8 years and has only had one good season a 3 year contract on big money seems ludicrous to me.

Wouldn't be surprised if last year was just a temporary form blip myself.

You dont work for the SACA do you ???

The guy has been steadily improving and this year jumped right out and was our ONLY consistant performer of the season. Why the hell wouldnt we want to pay him what he is worth ?? This "big money" wasnt actually big money at all but yes it was significantly bigger than what he was on. Queensland have landed themselves a very good player, and we have lost our best player this season because our SACA's ineptness.

Or it could have been one good year, never to be repeated.

And who knows, if they land the blokes their chasing like Klinger, Mail, Lambert and Blizzard whom I all rate as First Class cricketers it'll probably be a good trade.

Without Rhino we still have Cleary, Rofe, Putland (Who really deserves a go) as seamers with two strong spinners and a decent all rounder with fingers crossed someone like Lambert to come over and help out. It doesn't leave us with much depth admittedly but it's hardly a disaster.

Someone else will take Rhino's wickets IMHO

well he's contiued his form into the county season so it appears you don't know what your talking about...
 
I am filty on this. He is our best bowler and now he is gone. He deserved a three year deal.

Who have we got now. Tait, maybe (but dont let the media write a bad word about him he may quit again), Dan "Biceps" Cullen and Bailey, both have yet to take the next step. Cleary??? There is nothing coming up in the grade cricket. SA Cricket is dead.

We have already got Klinger. Blizzard would be a fantastic inclusion if we could get him. Unbelievable hitter of the ball and will be a really good One Day cricketer. Mail isn't too bad and Lambert would be a very handy.

Klinger and the guys you mentioned are all handy but nothing special, mind you they are better than most of what we had but they wont take his wickets will they ??

Cleary is a good cricketer when he wants to be but the guy has a bad attitude, Rofe is a good backup bowler but shouldnt have to take the new ball and Putland does deserve another go but is hardly the gun we need. My point is after losing Gilliespie (and his salary requirements) why would you let our other opening bowler go ?? Especially given the horrible lack of depth in grade cricket.

At this rate our batsmen (whoever they may be) are going to have to make 450+ to give our attack a hope of taking the wickets. Hopefully Taity does come back refreshed aswell which will help.

Gillespie had no salary requirments as he was a Cricket Australia contract.

They also have to contract Cullen Bailey and Dan Cullen coming off the Cricket Australia list.

So the choice was probably between chasing interstate depth or re-signing a bloke who in my opinion was made to look good in an atrocious team.

People using the reasoning he was our best player last year should recall just how bad we were last year! And it's not like Harris is that much of an outstanding cricketer, take a look at his strike rate to indicate that!

He was not a matchwinner, just a decent 2nd or 3rd string bowler and a handy lower end batter. I'm disapointed that we lost him, just the devestation being bandied around seems a bit over the top to me.

If he wanted to go interstate last year would anyone have honestly given a damn?
 
I would have been, then again I have always rated him.

IMO he is more important to our side than Dan Cullen who has promised so much but delivered....... well nothing. I would have been far happier letting him go and playing Bailey than losing our opening bowler who yes has had one good season but its one more than what most of the players have had.

Agreed. Our bowling attack is going to be terrible especially if Tait isn't fit and firing. All the players we have heard about the Redbacks looking at have been all rounders or batsman. We need another good quick bowler to lead the attack. Rofe, Cleary and Putland certainly aren't going to bowl sides out.

Thats exactly my point. I mean its great that Sorell and his cronies have faith in the local boys to get the job done but those 3 arent going to do it. As I mentioned Cullen has done sweet FA and is the most over-rated player in the team and as of yet Bailey hasnt done much either so where do we take wickets ??

Out of interest who took had the next best wicket talley behind Rhino ??

And I agree with your point.

However, it's not like they were exactly doing the job with Rhino! Whereas maybe (not likely) but maybe someone else can step up.

And the safe money knowing our luck is Dizzy being the second best wicket taker;)

he could probably do better then Cullen, after the performances I saw him put out during the 20/20 games.
 
Dizz was our 2nd highest wicket taker miles away with 25 then another loooooong drop to Cullen on 17. Thats over 60 wickets lost already...... who is going to pick up that much slack ??

Greg Blewett was the last player we have produced to average above 40 in State games.

Our over-rated "mummy boy" kids are useless. Our Grade system doen not produce good players. And those that are "tough it out" Cricketers leave cricket as the "boys club" does not let them in.
