Terrible news.

He was a great mod, and a decent poster, everytime you saw his name on a post, you knew it was going to be a well thought out and passionate post.

I can't speak for his work away from here, but it seems as though the Roos have lost a real trooper, and in this day and age, a man with such pride and passion in his club is rare.

Not only has BigFooty and the Kangaroos lost a valued member, but so too has the great game of Aussie Rules.

Terrible news, I have only been involved in this group for a short period but he welcomed me in from the start, true Shinboner.

Condolences to Family and friends..

What a huge hole in our ranks has opened up. Its for us all to step up and continue the fight for our club in his honour. At least he saw a great comeback win on Saturday night, and last knew his beloved NMFC in the full blush of its rebirth like never before.

Vale Lidge, and thankyou on behalf of my son, and the three generations of Shinboners before him, for what you helped save. We owe you mate!

Finey called Lidge an avatar. The word he was looking for of course was Moderator.

For all those aware of the sad and untimely passing of our favourite North Melbourne board moderator...

the Lidgerwood family would like to announce that Shane 'Lidge' Lidgerwood's funeral service and life celebration will be held at Arden St Oval North Melbourne on Thursday May 1st at 11am.

Following the service, the family would love to see you all at Corey's Pub - the Leveson, 46 Leveson Street North Melbourne from midday to share your best Lidge stories and to honour his memory with a quiet ale or three.

Yeah well there are those who use the word to describe all great spiritual leaders and teachers such as Jesus and Krishna and Mohammad and Buddha and so on.

I was actually leaning on Shane being the embodiment or personification of the Roosistence but hey, I'll accept that too:)

Just to add my condolences to his family, friends and all here on the board that will miss him greatly.

He loved his club and showed many what a true supporter really is. Unstinting loyalty, passion and support.

RIP Lidge you will be sadly missed.

Never got the pleasure of actually meeting Lidge, but I always read his posts on here, which always rang true with passion for the mighty NMFC, a passion which Lidge personified. His efforts and hard work in keeping this club that I, my family, and all of us, love so so so much. In the end, perhaps the most apt title to give him is simple. Shinboner.

He embodied everything that we loved about this club, will be missed by all. Condolences to his family.

When I first heard the news about Lidge I was stunned and felt so cold.
I couldn't believe and it has only now started to sink in to me.

I've been around Big Footy since it's early days and have crossed paths with a lot of people here. Lidge was one of the good guys, his love for the North Melbourne Football Club was unconditional and his loyalty to Big Footy was undeniable.
One thing I have never been able to understand or come to terms with is why things like this happen to good people, it just isn't fair.

Lidge was well respected by all posters on Big Footy, not just the North Melbourne crew, but all of us.
I never met Lidge in person but to me he wasn't just a faceless person behind a keyboard he was part of the fantastic Big Footy community, he was part of us, he was real.

RIP Lidge you will be greatly missed.

Have been away from bigfooty for almost a week, and was absolutely shocked at what I saw.

Very moving family notice in the paper, and like all here my heart goes out to them.

I will be taking great interest this Sunday. This makes the memory of the Roosistence even more special; forever grateful to roobear for snaring me a spot...

For the past 3 days, since this news came to hand, I've been trying to put some words together that don't sound overly cliched but are still meaningful. Failing that, I'll say this:

From what I've read in this thread and those that Shane started, and from what I've seen myself of his work, he summed up what it meant to be passionate about a club, and be a supporter of football in general.

His work with the Roosistence and the fight to keep your proud and passionate club where it belongs cannot be questioned. Much like Irene Chatfield did when the Bulldogs were put to the sword, Shane stood up when others seemed unwilling or unable to do so. He put his heart and soul into the effort and it paid dividends.

And when he wasn't busy saving his club, he was going into bat for them on Bay 13, where his quick lines and rapier wit never missed the mark. That so many Hawthorn supporters and Bay 13 regulars have come on here to pay tribute to him is testament to what he meant to Bay 13.

Yet at the end of the day, despite his constant needling of those clubs that he seemed to despise, there was always a deep respect for the person on the other end of the World Wide Web. He knew that even the worst/stupidest trolls were still people, and there were never any hard feelings.

I remember reading Harvey Silver's thoughts on EJ Whitten's passing, recalling how meeting Ted was having your hand crushed, your soul peered into, and to be asked "and what have you done for footy". Shane can return the handshake and say "I helped to save my club".

R.I.P Shane. Your club, bay 13, and football in general, were made better by your all too short prescence.
