They printed the following:
Dear Jim,
I have been employed as a football analyst/statistician with VFL club Werribee since 2005 and our alignment this year as changed to a partial one with North Melbourne and so far the Roos' support has been excellent. They have provided us with nothing but positive feedback.

Meanwhile, I wish to refer to the death of North Stalwart Shane Lidgerwood, who was just 40 years old of age and left behind four children. He did a lot of under-appreciated work and people like Shane aere the lifeblood of all football clubs.

Sweet, thanks Ben, I appreciate that it is substantially cutdown from your original, but respectful nevertheless.

For the past 3 days, since this news came to hand, I've been trying to put some words together that don't sound overly cliched but are still meaningful. Failing that, I'll say this:

From what I've read in this thread and those that Shane started, and from what I've seen myself of his work, he summed up what it meant to be passionate about a club, and be a supporter of football in general.

His work with the Roosistence and the fight to keep your proud and passionate club where it belongs cannot be questioned. Much like Irene Chatfield did when the Bulldogs were put to the sword, Shane stood up when others seemed unwilling or unable to do so. He put his heart and soul into the effort and it paid dividends.

And when he wasn't busy saving his club, he was going into bat for them on Bay 13, where his quick lines and rapier wit never missed the mark. That so many Hawthorn supporters and Bay 13 regulars have come on here to pay tribute to him is testament to what he meant to Bay 13.

Yet at the end of the day, despite his constant needling of those clubs that he seemed to despise, there was always a deep respect for the person on the other end of the World Wide Web. He knew that even the worst/stupidest trolls were still people, and there were never any hard feelings.

I remember reading Harvey Silver's thoughts on EJ Whitten's passing, recalling how meeting Ted was having your hand crushed, your soul peered into, and to be asked "and what have you done for footy". Shane can return the handshake and say "I helped to save my club".

R.I.P Shane. Your club, bay 13, and football in general, were made better by your all too short prescence.

A magnificent post.

Well done.:thumbsu:

As time has passed but feelings are still raw, I hope Mrs Lidge and the kiddies are going OK. I lost a Dad when young- lots of happy memories still.

As long as they have good friends and family, that will help. I hope the NMFC can do something to honour him for posterity.

I suggest maybe all of the condolences on Big Footy could be printed up and put into a scrapbook? Something to cherish for many years.
Just an idea.

Whenever the Kangaroos play the Gold Coast franchise in the future, the best North Melbourne player on groundshould get the Shane "Lidge" Lidgerwood medal, as recognition for his efforts in saving the NMFC from being a pawn in a game of corporate chess.

I saw this idiot's initial post and my blood was boiling. Well sorted TOD!

WTF goes through some people's minds?

T'toes

The guy obviously has some wacky issues going on. Surprised he was actually able to operate a pc. To be honest, I don't think he even knew what the hell thread he was posting on, but just to be safe, I gave him the maximum-penalty Red Card and have advised that he needs to be removed from the site permanently.

I've also cleaned up the last half a dozen or so posts. Mrs. Lidge doesn't need to be reading that crapola. So don't get upset anyone. (Yes, Nick Rooboy, I'm looking at you.)

Very good. Play on..........

Thats cool mate. He doesn't deserve the time of day or his user name to be displayed anywhere on this thread at all. I was just so upset when i read his post that I'm shocked that i didn't go off on him. That poster should never be allowed to be on a public forum.

Agreed, Nick. Cheers. :thumbsu:

I remember someone asking for this to be youtube'd a long long time ago. Not sure if it already was, or how to upload to youtube but I'm sure someone here has a better grasp on these things. Sounds like a real top bloke.

Good work mate.

Only caught the tail end of it when it was on the news, it's a very fine tribute.

Wonderful vid of a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man, very pleased to finally see it.

Great stuff rabbit43....and a thank you from all of us, who live outside of Victoria, who had no idea that it would be covered on commercial TV.

It only re-inforces the respect that Lidge had in the football community in general and how, I personally, regret not getting to know him better online.

He was a w***er towards my club!!

But Jesus he was good at it!:(:(

RESPECT!
