IMO is being used way too much lately by commentators.

I would say that the only player worthy of the Superstar tag is Chris Judd.

Some examples of who I think are superstars from other sports.

European Football - Christiano Ronaldo
NFL - Peyton Manning
MLB - Alex Rodriguez
Cricket - Shane Warne

Who are the genuine Superstars of the AFL at the moment and what makes a 'Superstar'?

McLeod would be close. 2 Norm Smiths and a Michael Tuck, captained the Dream Team, Aboriginal All-Stars and Australia (co-captained), almost a Brownlow. 2nd best Crow of all time. He and Roo are the ONLY superstars we've had.

I could be sweet-talked into elevating Jarman from star to super, however, as his GF performances were awesome.

Should be reserved for the best of the best.

It also shoud not just be based on performance, it carries some intangible qualities, too. Superstars have an aura about them, imo.

I think you misunderstood the premise of this thread.

It wasn't "name your favourite player from your team and list their faux awards and almost medals". It was "who are the genuine superstars of the AFL?"

You can't go past Harv's, superstar of the game

Again, do not list your favourite player, list Superstars. Harvey has been a good player with amazing longevity, but is not a Superstar.

Gary Ablett was a superstar. Wayne Carey was a superstar.

The three closest at the moment (although none are there yet) are Judd, Ablett and Franklin.

I think the 2 brownlows, 4 time saints B&F, 3 time EJ whitten medalist and 8 times all australian can do the talking. It's not his fault he hasn't been in a premiership side
Being a superstar isnt just limited to footballing ability.

Its like a rockstar isnt just limited to how good his music is rather the amount of bitches he pull, etc.

I think he was a superstar but isn't any more, now he is a champion, thats where superstars end up. A superstar is someone who can do the amazing things and is unstoppable at times. Franklin, Judd and Ablett seem to be the 3 for mine - star players who take it to the next level. Really it doesn't bother me too much, when the dees are winning every one of our players is a superstar, but it can get a little annoying when an average player does something good and is described as a superstar.

Superstars win games, Rob doesn't.

Judd, Buckley and Hird can win you games

can you explain the finer detail in the difference between "superstar" and "legend of the game" ?

what more does the bloke have to do to be a superstar in your eyes ?

It's not about what he can do, it's about who he is.

Harvey is far too humble to be a superstar. It's about the x-factor.
