Hopefully McManus retires this week...so I'm keeping him in for that honour. If doesn't announce retirement he can get dropped for Mark Johnson.

OUT: Mark Johnson (pending McManus poss departutre)
Thornton

IN: Murphy (to be played from goal square with Pav in midfield)
Drum

I'm guessing Dodd & Hayden will still be unavailable.

What about this for future home games to keep us interested?

v Roos - send off game for McManus
v Ess - send off game for Belly
v Melb - send off game for The Wiz
v Wet Toast - send off game for Black

You want to retire off everyone in quick succession?

I expect both to be still on our list next season.

Alright, I'm really bored and stuffing around with the Dockerland magnetic board beats studying Fourier transforms for my exam on Friday, so here's my XXII for Saturday. Assumptions made: Foster, Stompy and Roger are all fit but Drum needs another week. Stompy is probably the most marginal there, if he doesn't come up then bring in Josh Head. If Foster is not match fit, Mark Johnson gets another chance.

OK, it looks a bit peculiar, I know. But as everybody should know, a modern football team rarely plays to a structure that resembles a traditional magnetic board. Use your imagination a bit.

Don't pay too much attention to the relative positions of the magnets in the back half. As always, where each defender goes will depend on match ups. The important thing to note is Magic Johnson is playing as a spare man and filling up any space in front of the leading key forwards. You know, exactly what he did last week.

The forward line is the interesting bit. Chopper will be charging in off the square at the centre bounces and running into the space about 15-20m in front of the ruck contest. He'll be there for when Sandi gets a chance to obliterate the ball out of the contest. If this doesn't eventuate, he runs in to provide a contest in the scrimmage. In general play, the frizzy headed one will be all over the ground and leading as far up as half back. Just get him to use his pace and give his opponent a workout.

Kepler and Tarrant play a similar role, leading up on the wings to provide an option if the ball is being brought up on their side of the ground. While one of them is leading up to the flank or the wing (or ideally, up the corridor) for it, the other one should be dropping back ot become the next link in the chain. While all of this is going on, I'd love to see Chopper bolting back into the 50 on the open side to provide an option. At the centre bounces, Tarrant and Kepler stay out of the square and float around 40-50m out from goal, waiting for the hurried kick out of the centre square. If we get a clean takeaway, they need to run out of the 50 to shepherd, thus freeing up space for Pav to lead and the Wiz to do his thing.

Wiz should do a fair bit of leading, but the players should be instructed to only go to him if he's got a good break. It should really be a part of a grander plan to give Pav a bit more time and space to work in. When the kick eventually goes to Pav, Wiz should be turning around and motoring back to be front and centre.

Drop 211 back to full forward for a rest every now and again to throw a spanner in the works. Maybe even try it a couple of times with Knockers, too. When either of them move up there, move Pav up to play Kepler, Tarrant or Chopper's role. Whoever he replaces will have to go off and have a rest. Moving Pav into the more mobile roles will hopefully mean he draws a more mobile defender who can't contest with him in the air and create headaches.

For those of you who didn't lose interest somewhere up the top there, I hope that made sense.

Why are we going to rush Hayden back? Should give him one more week on the sidelines, it's not like we need him for our finals push here and we have a habit of rushing back injured players.

Collapsed lung probably isn't an injury that they are worried about happening again, so if the docs clear him he should play.

Does anyone rate Solomon? Josh Head is a fairly tough nut on halfback for Souths. I reckon Thornton will keep his spot, might be too many crocks in the backline. Cant wait to see BO get another run.

The side looks good BKBP, just one problem. Stompy's a really, really, really, really gay nickname.

Hahaha surely you jest? I think that's one of the better ones floating around!

Just thank your lucky stars we're not Wet Toast, or else we'd just nickname every player by adding 'y' to their name. That shits me.

Kerry, Coxy, Lynchy, Embley-y, Seaby-y...

bigkev I like your work, and this is definitely a role MJ plays well. This is where i think all the problems will start for your forward set up though. If we have a loose man, NM will also have a loose man. With Taz and Kepler both leading up to the wings, he'll have a relatively easy job cutting off and passes to Pav. With little pressure for him coming out of defence.

I'd suggest having Solly play a role similar to Mayne. They could just alternate who goes into the centre and who stays...

Safe to say.....Fremantle = Season Over.
Very dissapointing that Adam Campbell hasn't played this year. playing well in the WAFL. kicks 10 goals in a game and doesn't go up???? Played well last year when got the chance. What else can you ask of a kid?

So why not give him a go and see what happens. If not, will no doubt leave to another club at the end of the year where he might be given more of a go and make something of it.
But instead Freo will keep Tarrent (what a saviour he has been) and recruit another young tall forward to develop but not give a go......SMART

I hear ya mate, Campbell is also one of the hardest workers at training and during the games. He has another year on his contract so we wont be getting rid of him, needs to play at least 5 games in the second half of the year.

This is a very good point and I have to admit I didn't even think of it. Good observation.

So are you suggesting that King Solomon and Mayne both play the role that I gave Mayne? It could definitely help. That raises another problem though, one of Kepler and Tarrant will have to find a new role. Either could probably play the same role as Mayne and Solomon I guess (I think that we really underestimate just how big Kep's motor is) which would mean we could rotate all four through that role, while adjusting the Kepler/Tarrant role to be performed by just one person? One of them would need to rest on the bench at all times, or maybe in the case of Mayne and Solomon have a run through the middle or on a wing? Even Kep could have a go on the wing too.

All of that is a bit harder to put on the magnetic board but it made sense in my head. Is that sort of what you were alluding to prattsta?

This is more or less what i was getting at. Based on your team, with the one positional change-

Wiz, Chopper & Agent Solly can all just play front and centre of their respective big fella in general play and get any scraps. I'm not 100% convinced whether Farmer could play the decoy role for Pav though. Maybe put him 1 out in the square every so often to keep him happy, and just move Pavlich to the traditional CHF spot.

This will still allow Mayne and/or Solly to run into the square during bounces, without us creating the loose man back situation. If North decide to drop a man back, then we could just revert to the way you had it originally to avoid further congesting our forward line.

We should really add one week to whatever the docs say so that we are better safe than sorry, with any injured player coming back this season. What is the rush to get him back if he still needs to be tested this week? Just seems a bit..... stupid to me. Hopefully he won't play this week and can make a return next week.

Understand what you are getting at but if you watch most games you will that most teams actually play a loose man anyway...
