Would Carlton accept?

I wouldn't think so.

I'm with you, but it would be interesting to see where Carlton see their midfield with so many quality blokes in there, but I would think they are missing a quality extractor.

HArris would fill that void and they get an upgraded pick and we get a quality mid in Murphy and a downgraded pick.

North fans have a weird obsession with Marc Murphy.

There's no chance we'd trade Murphy for anything, let alone Daniel Harris and an upgrade on one pick.

Its an extra first rounder, you only lose your second round pick.

Means you have pick 6 & 9 and get a quality extractor in Harris. Someone who can feed Judd, Gibbs and Stevens.

Not a chance in hell. You don't trade away young players like Murphy.

Just because he followed the Roos as a kid doesn't mean he dislikes our club. Have you read his articles? He bleeds blue, and we all love him. Not going anywhere.

An incredibly shit deal even if he did want to move. Murphy deserves 2x top 10 picks and an established player.

Although we won't get a hard midfielder like Kerr come trade time, the answer to this trade offer is no. Perhaps we'll look for a midfielder in the draft with our 6th pick, or our next round one, which would be pick 24, if we don't trade them away. We'll have to wait and see come October though won't we?

It is because he was North supporter before going to Carlton, am sure he would have loved to have been picked up by us but a lot of people play out their careers for clubs they didn't follow as a kid.

You wouldn't think Carlton would even entertain the idea of trading him unless his contract was up and said he wanted to leave. As to the price, that is kinda irrelevant talking about when he wont be willingly traded.

Yeah, a team that will go for Harris is one that is light on for midfielders and doesn't have any big inside midfielders on the horizon. You can pick an outside midfielder in the draft and they could play the following year. You really have to be big and well built to play the inside role or else you will just go down with injuries all the time.

Inside midfielders can be like KPPs in terms of their development cycle. I think Swallow is an excellent young replacement for Harris and played in the middle at 19 but wear and tear had a real impact this year so he was pretty much rested all year and allowed to develop his skills. He is 21 now and I think is ready to go next year.

If a side is in the 8 and lacking that inside midfielder or just outside it can be a big ask to say lets wait 3 or so years for a 2008 draft pick to mature when you are getting murdered for clearances.

Not talking Carlton specifically but it would have a massive impact for your club if you had the deficiency and everyone expects and demands you take the next step and make the finals next year. Investing in a "possible" kid and waiting up to 3 years to know is a significantly higher risk than trading a guy that has a proven track record and is in his prime.

Investing in youth is the right way to go when you rebuild but when you are past the point of rebuilding and you just have a few holes you need fixing and you don't want to wait years to fix it then trading is the only real way. It is not without risk.

Carlton would be getting a bath in that trade. Murphy would probably be worth Harris & one top 10 pick (perhaps 2?), given Harris is close to at his full potential and Murphy could be anything, massive upside.

I would be very interested in getting Harris, but certainly not involving Murphy.

Would Carlton accept Harris and our first pick for Murphy and their second pick?

Carlton have plenty of mids, but could do with a genuine extractor like Harris.

Having a look through the stats to compare what Carlton would be giving up in terms of an extractor.

22 games for Murphy in 2008, 23 for Harris.

80 clearances for Murphy, 92 for Harris.
177 contested possessions for Murphy, 158 for Harris.

Pretty close really in terms of winning the hard ball in close. Considering Murphy is in his 3rd year and will only get stronger and better in contested situations, its not a very good deal.

I am sure Carlton could do with another extractor, it's just that Murphy is their 2nd best option (behind Judd) in that role.

I completely disagree... He is worth 4 top 10 picks plus Daniel Kerr:)

Carlton's short answer = No

Carlton's long answer = Go dig a 6 foot hole, jump in and smack yourself over the head with a shovel until you rid this world of those suggestions.

Ridiculously overrating of Murphy aside, I agree that Murphy and 2nd rounder is worth a fair bit more than harris and 1st. But, to be devils advocate and not intending to troll, that would give Carlton magical two single digit picks that WC asked for Kerr. The Q becomes, Murphy and 2nd rounder for Kerr? I think Murphy is good, so that prob still not worth it. But it is not far away. However, I wouldn't trade Pendlebury and 2nd rounder for Kerr. I guess most Carlton fans would feel the same about Murph and 2nd

NO never , you can dream of seeing him in a north jumper but thats as close as you will get to having him in one, Murphy will be Carltons next captain after Judd, why trade away your best young player for anything.

No chance... ridiculous suggestion.

NM should stick to drafting kids. NM should stay away from the trade table altogether as you only get yourself into trouble (e.g. trading away five top 30 picks for Thompson, Hay and Daniel McConnell).

No.
Murphy isn't going anywhere.

You guys sound like us a few years ago over Goddard.

a #1 pick is worth considerably more than say pick 6 and 7 put together. #1 will give you a 200 game player, you can bet on that. going past pick 3 or so it's a raffle.

everyone knows Murph will be a star, and has huge upside. there is no risk. with late 1st rounder however, there is considerable risk. that's why Murph is worth 2+ 1st round picks.
