Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

If you cant match him coz of your salary then you dont deserve the player ;)

Why should I be penalised because of a stupid, over-the-top bid, when I may be willing to pay 550k over 5 years?

Anyway, this hasnt happened to me... not successfully, but I saw it happen to another player and its just crap. Lets be more real, Jon Brown took up the long-term stability over the big $$$ offered (supposedly) by Vic clubs... and Im sure this game is about whats real, as close to real as possible

Totally agree.

Well perhaps a way to cut that out would be if a manager wants to make a bid for a player on a one year contract from another team then the salary has to be udner a certain amount (eg. 450k)

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

I suppose this new rule will eliminate it if you put a minimum deal on each player, and other teams need to match the years anyway

Rant over :p

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

You've got until tomorrow morning to change my mind, but the proposed changes are in red

All previous bids are cancelled. All trades remain exactly as they were done in round 1.

Bidding

  • You can only bid on uncontracted players. All these players are listed under their 2008 club in the next post.
  • Bids that remain unbeaten after 72 hours are successful.
  • Make sure it is clear who you are bidding for. If in doubt use the name exactly as posted in this thread.
  • Once you make a bid, it is final. Do NOT edit your posts. Re-post if you missed something.
  • All times are Melbourne time. If you're in another zone it's up to you to work out how to adjust them.
  • The value of the contract is the annual salary multiplied by the length.
  • A starting bid is any bid on a player who does not already have one, unless stated otherwise. This will generally be the first bid made by an opponent.
    • You may have a maximum of two of these active at any time. A starting bid remains active from the time you make it, until either that player is traded, or his 2009 club is finalised.
  • Bidding on your own players
    • Bidding opens some time Friday September 19.
    • If no bid has been made by an opponent, your bid remains active for 30 days (starting from the latter of the time of bidding and 10am Wednesday September 24), or until an opponent beats it, whichever occurs first. This is not a starting bid.
      • You can elect to make this a 72 hour (starting from the same time) bid, but doing so means it becomes a starting bid.
    • Each bid on your own player must include a salary (minimum of $107,000) and length (1 to 5 years) of the contract. To avoid confusion, you must also post the value of this contract. In the event of these numbers not matching up, the salary will be changed to match the length and value.
      • Exceptions:
      • Currently rookie-listed players may be retained on the rookie list. These players are on fixed $33,000 1 year deals. They can also be promoted onto the main list on a $77,000 1-year deal or an $88,000 2-year deal. Outside of this they are treated the same as senior-listed players.
      • Any player placed on the veterans list costs that club nothing and is contracted for one year. This bid is unbeatable but each club is allowed only two. Players currently on the veterans list cannot be moved back to the senior list other than through trading or drafting.
    • Where there is a previous bid for that player, your bid must match or exceed the value of that contract offer, and if you increase the length of the contract, the salary must not decrease.
    • Any number of bids can be placed by opponents on your players at one time, but only the oldest 2 will be on the clock. As soon as one is responded to or time elapses, the next-oldest takes its place.
    • You may make as many bids on your player as you wish
    • Bidding ends 6pm Friday December 5
    • The key for your uncontracted players list below is
      • No bid
      • Re-signed by you
      • You lead the bidding
      • An opponent leads the bidding
      • Successful bid by an opponent
      • Traded out

  • Bidding on opposition players
    • Bidding starts 10am Wednesday September 24
    • Each bid on an opposition player must include a salary (minimum of $130,000), length of the contract (between 1 and 5 years) and which round's PSD pick you will use. To avoid confusion, you must also post the value of this contract. In the event of these numbers not matching up, the salary will be changed to match the length and value. A bid does not count if these details are not included.
    • There is no passing of PSD picks. If you win a bid with an 11th round pick, that means you must use 11 PSD picks on top of your compulsory 3 picks in the ND, so you have to get your list down to 24 (excluding successful bids) before the draft
    • Where there is a previous bid for that player, your bid must beat either the value of the contract or the PSD round, and match the other. If you increase the length of the contract, the salary must not decrease.
    • You may make only 3 bids on each player
    • Your bid must beat the current value by at least $10,000
    • Bidding ends 6pm Sunday November 30
Trading

  • Trading resumes some time Friday September 19.
  • You can trade any national draft pick.
  • You can trade any player on your list except those in grey on your uncontracted players list and rookies. For the purposes of this rule, players you have gained through bidding are not on your list until this period is over. You must keep them if you win the bid.
  • You cannot trade pre season draft picks.
  • Both sides must post the trade for it to be confirmed
  • When trading a player, the recipient of that player must post the contract on which he will take that player.
    • Trading contracted players
    • The new contract must be as long or older than the old one.
    • The salary must be (at least) that in the table below
    • Trading uncontracted players
    • The new contract must be at least as long as the leading bid, if any, at the time of posting the trade.
    • The new salary must equal or exceed both the leading bid at the time of trading and the number (in $1000s) preceding the name in his original club's uncontracted players list.
  • You can on-trade whatever as many times as you wish.
  • Any traded picks must be used.
  • Trading ends 6pm Sunday November 30
Father-son

  • Clubs with eligible father-son players have until 6pm Friday October 31 to announce their wish to claim that player with their last pick in the National Draft.
  • Once a club has made this announcement, all other clubs have 7 days to announce which pick, if any, they are prepared to give up for that player. One bid only per club. The club does not have to have the pick they bid, but must use a pick no worse than the bid to take the player if successful.
  • In the event of two teams nominating the same pick, the lower ranked team in 2008 will be the leading bid.
  • The original club has 14 days from their initial announcement to announce if they will find a pick no more than 15 picks later with which to use.
  • Alignments are
    • Adelaide = Adelaide
    • Brisbane Bears = Brisbane Lions
    • Carlton Lions = Carlton Blues
    • Collingwood = Collingwood
    • Southern Stingrays = Essendon
    • Rottnest Razorbacks = Fremantle
    • Geelong = Geelong
    • Gold Coast = Hawthorn
    • Melbourne = Melbourne
    • North Melbourne Saints = North Melbourne
    • Port Adelaide = Port Adelaide
    • Coburg Shitkickers = Richmond
    • SWR Mastiffs = St Kilda
    • Sydney Broncos = Sydney Swans
    • West Coast = West Coast
    • Western Vultures = Western Bulldogs
Delistings
Only need to be posted if you are delisting contracted players. You will pay 100% of the salary if the player is still on an AFL list. You will pay 75% if he is not unless you claim and I agree that he was forced to retire due to injury (pay 50% subject to my approval) or he walked away from the game (pay nothing). You will pay 100% in season 2009 if you sign the contract in this off season.
All uncontracted players at 6pm Friday December 5 will be automatically delisted.

Draft
Tentative start dates:
National Draft Round 1: 10am Monday December 8
National Draft Round 2: Midday Tuesday December 16
Pre-Season Draft: As soon as I'm ready after the last pick of the ND
Rookie Draft: As soon as I'm ready after the last pick of the PSD

What you need at the end

  • A senior list of exactly 38, including:
    • Listed contracted players
    • At least 3 National Draft picks including any acquired through trading and any earlier picks than these acquired ones
    • Any Pre Season Draft picks used in the bidding process, and any earlier picks.
  • A veterans list of no more than 2
  • Total player payments less than or equal to $7,750,000 for players including
    • Any senior listed player
    • Any delisted contracted player
    • Any retained rookie listed player

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Russian what about trades which have already been made where a player has joined a club for the price at last bid rather then the uncontracted price...Will these stand or will they be adjusted?

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

So each team will be making their UC players the minimum bids sometime today (Friday 19th)? But we won't be starting the opposition bids til Wednesday the 24th? Why?

The value of the contract is the annual salary multiplied by the length. - Where did this bit come from?

Because not everybody will get it done today, and there's no need for those who aren't ready to be rushed into decisions.

Come's out of BW's complaint about 5 year $130k beating 2 year $500k. Basically if you do what you had to do before, your bid will still win, but if you don't want to match the years you don't have to as long as you considerably bump up the salary.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Can we expect the new bidding thread open soon Russian?

And you never answered my question about what is happening with those players who have already been traded whose new contract had to match the highest bid at the time of the trade - Will their salary be buoght down to the original uncontracted player price or will the contract salary stand with the old bidding prices?

All accepted trades stand, which would include the contracts.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

If we put starter bids on 2 of our own players, are we able to bid on opposition players if someone makes a counter bid of the original offer? Or locked out altogether?

Great changes, no one will ever figure out how to abuse these new rules :D.

You bid on Egan and make it a starting bid, Virgil counters, it's still your starting bid, not his.

Re: AFL Team Manager Rules (updated October 07)

Don't educate me on the rule I made up....lol.

I mean: I bid on Egan & Morris and make them starter bids. Theres my 2 starter bids.

You then bid to keep one of your uncontracted Port Power hacks. Can I bid on them? Or can I only bid on them if someone else bids on them first? Or can't I bid on them at all until my 2 starter bids end?

If I make it an active bid, you can. If I don't, you can't but you have 30 days to get one of your starters back before I win.
