Re: Hodge

he will play i reckon, if he doesnt then someone else can run around free on half back getting the cheap kicks.

He backs into far too many packs to be accused of getting cheap kicks.

Re: Hodge

Well even if you decide not to play him, you will still have to physically stop him from running onto the ground.

I'd imagine some sort of steel/concrete cage to hold him in. The bugger will probably get out though.

nah i know, just stiring the pot.

I think he will play anyway

Re: Hodge

if he plays and they win its pure genious and courage-lappin
if he plays and they lose people will call him selfish - essendon 2001

Re: Hodge

They build 'em tough in Colac.
Could've been fooled today. Went to water in a GFL grand final and surrendered to a 110 point belting.

Surely Hodge would've sat out the second half tonight if they genuinely thought he had broken ribs? There's a difference between toughness and sense, and if he chose to play out the second half when his side was 50+ points up knowing he was genuinely jeopardizing his chances of playing next week, that's just downright selfish and stupid. Love the way he goes about it, hes walking inspiration, and I doubt he's got broken ribs.

Re: Hodge

oh sorry if your team is old as f**k bet yeah you wont be anywhere near having a player of hodges tuffness or bravery of skills or versatility omg matye the list goes on yeah i think this thread is about how brave and tough he was and should he play not to have a go at him but nice try

cant expect much from a sydney supporter

Yep, was thinking the same thing
Emotions get pretty heated after a Grand Final loss and supporters look for the easy scapegoat.
I hope he plays, but I reckon a tough decision to make.
If I was coach I'd take the gamble and play him.
But I wouldn't be calling hiim selfish if they lost.
He got thrugh the game tonight and he would have confidence he could get through next week

PS: Memories of Dermott annihilating the Tiges years back and kicking about 14 goals after getting broken ribs.

Re: Hodge

He needs to weigh the risk of him wasting a spot on the field if he's going to play.

The question isn't "can he run onto the ground?"

The question is "can he be a valuable member over 4 quarters for a team that will beat Geelong?"

If he plays - and plays poorly - then he has let the team down.

Must perform.

One day someone like Luke Hodge is going to act all tough running out there on Grand Final day with injuries and he's gunna cop a knock in the first 5 minutes and he'll be gone for the day.

Then his team only has 3 on the bench.

I reckon Hodge has skipped ahead of Judd. He is super courageous and has the best disposal (when given time and space) in the game. Tonight just proved it! He is dead-set elite and a tough bugger to boot!

Hodge could never let Hawthorn down, especially not in a losing Grand Final side. He would be the one trying to drag the rest of the team over the line even if we were 100 points down with 30 seconds to go.

If he's got cracked ribs and he plays, why wouldn't you give him a couple of jumper punches in the ribs. You wouldn't get reported, you probably wouldn't even concede a free kick for it... What's the downside to doing it?

Don't know about that. Hawks didn't get sucked in when Goddard flattened Mitchell.

I suppose the worst that would happen if you were to do it is that you'd get booed really hard.

What would a Richmond supporter know about Grand Finals?

nothing to lose getting into a fight in the granny, everything to lose getting into a fight in the prelim.

I love the Hawks , and saw our last 4 Flags . At present im working overseas, so looking from afar at present .

When i left 4 years ago we still were not sold on Clarko or Hodge , and back then Bateman's nickname was Clangers , and Crawf had carried our side for the previous 5 years ( some great years and props to these guys Chicky ( so underrated) , Dutchy , Fish , The Arab and Stacks ) .

The reason why both Hawthorn and the Saints overlooked Judd for others was valid , he had 2 dodgy shoulders and his longterm viability was questionable back then . Obviously those doubts where our loss and WC gain . Judd is a just about the best midfielder to every play the game , the equal of Barassi , Skilton and Williams .

Still after seeing most of the Hawks 2008 season and more so after the Prelim final last night i was so proud of Luke , and so happy that he will never ever be thought of again as a bad choice or as someone that we mistakeningly gave up Croady to get . And Even if both Hodgy and Crawf where unfit , i would stand and applaud Clarko if he selected them and just let them sit on the pine , no two current Hawthorn players deserve more benefit of the doubt fitness wise .

Agree, why not? But remember one thing, hes not gonna worry about grabbing a jumper to get someone back in a granny!
