Let’s not get too carried away with the TAc gf – REMEMBER Derek Murray, Michael Stevens and Paul Koulouriotis – all picked on their performances in the GF.

By the same token Adam Goodes was ignored after his massive 1997 effort.

For the record:

1992: Daniel Fletcher (Geelong Falcons) - Pick #61, 1993 PSD - Geelong, 1 Game.
1993: Shannon Gibson (Northern Knights) - Pick #23, 1993 ND - Hawthorn, 25 Games. Collingwood 3 Games.
1994: Anthony Rocca (Northern Knights) - Pick #2, 1994 ND - Sydney, 22 Games. Collingwood 216* Games.
1995: Brent Harvey (Northern Knights) - Pick #47, 1995 ND - North Melbourne, 264* Games.
1996: David Harrison (NSW/ACT Rams) - Not selected.
1997: Adam Goodes (North Ballarat Rebels) - Pick #43, 1997 ND - Sydney, 230* Games.
1998: Michael Stevens (Murray Bushrangers) - Pick #5, 1998 ND - Port Adelaide, 17 Games. North Melbourne, 44 Games.
1999: Dylan Smith (Prahran Dragons) - Pick #6, 2000 ND - North Melbourne, 11 Games. Fremantle, 10 Games.
2000: Amon Buchanan (Geelong Falcons) - Pick #52, 2000 ND/Pick #45, 2003 ND - Sydney, 108* Games.
2001: Jordan Barham (Calder Cannons) - Pick #12, 2002 RD - Port Adelaide, 0 Games. St. Kilda, 0 Games.
2002: Stephen Dinnell (Eastern Ranges) - Not selected.
2003: Brock McLean (Calder Cannons) - Pick #5, 2003 ND - Melbourne, 75* Games.
2004: Jesse D. Smith (Calder Cannons) - Pick #22, 2005 RD - Carlton, 2 Games.

And as posted above, Buchanan got selected at 52 by the swans the year he was drafted. A pretty handy #52 pick if u ask me. Sidebottom has always been touted as a 1st rounder, slotting around about pick 10-12. I would say that if we dont draft him, Rich doesn't slide down and we end up taking either Ziebell or Hartlett then he will be gobbled up by either Carlton at 6 or Brisbane at 7.

It also should be noted that Sidebottom had a huge finals series. Reportedly best on ground 2 weeks ago, top 3 last week, then smashed them in the GF (in front of Choco in 2 of those games).

It's a good sign when a player lifts his game to another level across a finals series. Whether it's enough to lift him to pick 4 is another matter, but he must've raised his profile, and it was pretty good anyway.

Need to be careful with kids that stand out because of one feature such as being tall, physically developed more (quicker) than most other players or possessing that special blend of speed and agility etc.
In the clip he doesn't appear to have any of these attributes so will probably turn out to be a very good pick up.

No idea about any of the players in the draft, but going on the clip that Ford posted he will be in demand.

Yeah, as has been said, its not like hes just come out the blue and kicked 10 goals. Hes been touted as a top 10 pick all year, was in the U18 AA team at the championships and now has had a huge finals series and the best GF ever seen.

I watched him today and thought he was quite similar to a Jarrad Mcveigh. He played bloody well. Makes some mistakes but he looks a genuine footballer with a bit of pace about him and good skills. Good contested mark as well. I wouldnt be too unhappy to get him with pick 4.

He was good but the opposition was very ordinary.
I watched a bit on Foxtel and that is certainly true.
The Dandenong Stingrays showed less fight than we did in last year's GF. Plus once Sidebottom had slotted a few there was a deliberate focus to get the ball to him, even when there were easier/better routes to goal. A bit like in the game where both Hawthorn and Carlton were respectively trying to get Buddy and Fev to the 100 goal mark.
It was a dominant performance but as a one off absolutely useless in determining his value in the AFL.

Here's a collection of reviews on him, collated by Couch Potato.

LOL, he may be a couch potato but his ID is Couch Coach. :D

Sidebottom is a fantastic prospect, a few of us Pies fans have been monitoring his progress this year as we thought he'd be there around our pick, and he fits our needs. Very unlikely now after kicking 10 in a TAC Cup GF, what a douche. Anyway, he reads the game well, is an elite kick off both feet, and while he's only average pace he runs to the right spots.

He reminds me of the old Centrals player Jamie Thomas.

now Salisbury North seniors coach!

Talking of coaches, looks like Roger James for the Noth job... if we got Hardwick in say 2011 would anyone be interested in James in the same year?

With a name like that, surely Freo will jump at him.

Michael Hurley is our man. Really composed player is footy smart from the footage. Could be anything

Michael Hurley is your man and I'll tell you why......
He played as a CHF in our premiership loss in 2006 as a 15 year old playing against me, never, thought he would end up a backman, so obviously
very versatile and can play both ends.
Not as slow as reported - guarantee it.
Is 6 foot, 4 inches and still growing. Clean hands, beautiful long kick, stands tall. Plays & looks like Reiwolt

And can also advise that Port Adelaide have told him that he will
be their Number 1 pick. So you can stop speculating and refer back
to this thread once the draft has been done.

^ A mate of yours i guess? If true will be very interesting to see how our ruck division gets sorted over the next couple of years.

Not so much a mate, I'm 38 yo, he is 18......
From the same club though as he is aligned to Macleod FC through
the Nthrn Knights.
He is one of the cleanest juniors I've ever seen and will be a superstar.
Parents understandably upset by Port's decision considering his brother has moved to Cairns from Melbourne......empty nest.....that's AFL !

I'd be very happy with Hurley.

Perhaps if we indeed get Hurley and he plays and plays well in 09 we might be able to trade a pettigrew/chaplin in that period for a reasonable ruckman if Deluca/Giles show no great progression.

Personally I feel that having a dominant ruckman is important but probably not as much as having a versatile defender who can also play up forward.

Well if it's true, it would be a very sound decision, even if he is a better backman than forward.

Lance Franklin was a star CHB in (?)2003(?) but had a "Bad" attitude... 5 years later he is a 100 goal a year Power Forward, Premiership Star, All Australian, Coleman Medalist and Probably the biggest profile in Australia bar Stephanie Rice and K.Rudd
