HAWTHORN has moved even closer to claiming the services of Sydney Swans star Ryan O'Keefe, after the forward's management gave the team the go ahead to meet with him on Wednesday.
After meeting with O'Keefe's manager, Tom Petroro, on Tuesday night, Hawthorn has been given the go ahead to progress talks further with the classy Swan.
The Hawks have acknowledged that coach Alastair Clarkson is in Sydney and is now meeting with O'Keefe, with a view to luring the 2005 premiership player to wear the brown and gold in 2009.
It is understood O'Keefe has confirmed his interest in playing with the Hawks next season.
It is also believed Hawthorn has offered O'Keefe a reduced contract, although that has been offset by his desire to return to Victoria and play in a successful side.
Although Carlton is still hovering in the background, Hawthorn remains in the box seat.
