Given we already have Milne and Schnieder in the team, is a Rioli type player really what we need to make an impact?

If he possess the ability to apply forward line defensive pressure, then hell yes!

I play on the wing and across half back and occasionally have a run in the middle.

Strengths?
Probably my speed and endurance.

Weaknesses?
Probably my strength.

Which AFL team do you support?
The Eagles.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I don’t know, I can’t really think of any. I’m a bit of a runner, I’ve got a bit of speed.

haha it is interesting i know!

basically he has got very strong core strength and at 187cm's isn't a midget.. he uses his other assets such as his phenomenal leap and good marking ability to win contests. i doubt he'll end up as a full forward at AFL (more a wingman/half forward who is a good 3rd tall to have in the forward line). he's very similar to Alan Didak in my opinion but perhaps more robust and strong.

FWIW i went with Lewis Johnston in the draft (i couldn't pass on him:p)
Yeah at a junior level where height and bulk are more similar it makes sense, just thought it was an odd description to go into a profile. Bit hard to find a more different combination of positions (ruckman/small forward is the only one I could think of).

Interesting to see all the ones you turned down ended up sliding until at least the priority picks.

Guess you've got plenty of time to plan your next picks

YES Stevie Hill..

Lol my brother and i were walking home from school yesterday and he drove past.. I didnt see him but my brother went bizurk. We should pick him up, he is such a good player. You aint seen nothing yet.

Yeah Hill seems like he would be a good pick up, I haven't seen much of him but I've heard conflicting reports.

Some say he could go top ten or as high as Freo's pick 3, others say he's the next Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls

I've watched Hill. He reminds me of a Sam Gilbert only quicker and more of a midfielder but not as tall as Gilbert to play on bigger defenders. Has the same awkward gangly qualities too. Kicking is suspect but seems to work.

Here a some names that keep popping up around mock drafts I've been veiwing for the Sainters pick #13-

Yarran- Slips into the saints with his silky skills and speed as a medium forward/Midfielder exactly what St Kilda needs and what Finey from SEN 1116 has been screaming for. The missing link. Better than Cyril Rioli I've heard.....:thumbsu: My Fav choice too

Trengrove- Can slot in at most spine positions including a stint in the ruck but seems to relish playing at CHB, running back with the flight of the ball taking corageous marks. Amazing leap too. Saints need to fill our KPD positions with Max in his twilight and Goose at the crossroads even if Gilbert can mould into a Max type FB we need someone like a Brian Lake from the Dogs down back to hold fort so Fisher, Raph and BJ can run and attack from defense. And Rossy loves a big defender and they are hard to get or the good ones at least. A presence like Lake is required.......

Blease- Super competitive firery red head who runs hard and fast, Tackling is relentless and he will mow you down! All in all he is a true midfeilder. Will add the speed we need to bolster our slow midfield along with Cuz of course.

Hill- Has been thrown as high as pick #3 and #6 in some mock drafts but has ended up at #13 a few times for us. His pace is to die for and exactly what we need, if we had this young indigenous talent running on the wing like the Winmar days, boy! Ripped up the Draft camp as the most outstanding and ran 15km in a TAC game in perth on the wing and back flank which is just freakish. Went toe to toe with the highly rated Hamish Hartlett from SA one game and destroyed him. Where does he fit in with Gram playing a similiar role or would we play him mostly on the wing and BJ on the other wing, look out! Athleticism is un-questionable his Kicking action however is..........

Hurley- Been related once to the saints in someones draft with the prospect of him sliding significantly with querries on his leg speed. Rossy loves his Key defenders and would take him but he looks certain to go to the Blues or Bombers.

Johnston- Big Lewy J hey! I see Bourky23 selected him in the phantom draft. Probaly a smart move to take the best available player even if we were after a different type of player. The next best Power forward behind Jack watts and it's not like we are sweet at FF so it's a win-win. Does throw St Kilda's structure into a bit of chaos however. How do you fit Kosi, Roo, Macca, J. Allen and Lewy J into a forward line set up? Macca would become a perm ruck i guess while kosi runs around doing whatever Kosi does (rucking, marking down back and sneaking into the forward line just to give opposition coaches even more headaches). Lewy is a good mark and would hopefully play straight away. Liabilty plan if Roo goes to GC in 2011.........

Alot of things will play on the minds of our recruiting team with their selection. Like the whole CHB position and whether Goose will return to full strength? The speed through our midfield with or without Ben Cousins, can we manage or is the situation critical ie; Yarran or Hill essential?

Look forward to draft day. We can only get a good result with pick #13 and so much talent.

Not sold on Blease. Extremely outside player, requires other people to fetch a ball. In a good side, he would be an absolute gun. In a crap side that can't win the ball, will not look so good. Plus he's stick thin, take years to put some weight on.

You have to doubt how this journalist got his infomation but anyway, Looks like Essendon are gonna take Stephen Hill at pick 5.
SAINTS_4_07_FLAG won't be happy.

Other info in the article is, Watts @ 1, NicNat @ 2, Rich @ 3.
Tom Swift won't get past Geelong, Brisbane very keen on Yarran.

http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,24622660-5005401,00.html

Other 'rumours' around, Adelaide to take McKernan at 10. Phil Davis to the Hawks at 16.

Obviously good news for us, players that were considered 'outsiders' or not touted in the 1st round have snuck up there leaving lots to chose from when our pick rolls around. :thumbsu:

1. Watts
2. NicNat
3. Rich
4. Vickery
5. Hill
6. Hurley :(
7. Yarran
8. Ziebell
9. Hartlett
10. McKernan
11. Sidebottom
12. Johnston
13. Trengove or Blease
14. Cordy
15. Swift
16. Davis

FYI there was some guy claiming to be good mates with Mitch Banner, who posted on Saintsational and the D&T Board that we a very, very, very keen on him. Port were also very keen too. I don't mind this, If Banner can get his decision making right he could turn out to be a very very good player. Absolute ball magnet he is.

Honestly cant see Carlton not taking Hurley. He's exactly what they need, and is another vital cog in their spine. Fev at FF, Judd in the middle, Waite at CHF or CHB with Hurley in the place he isn't. Jamieson at FB. Could be one of the best spines in the competition in a couple years.

Oh well, Trengove would definitely not be a bad choice if Hurley is already taken.

Yeah but Banner is in and under, very much like Luke Ball. I think we already have that area well covered.

Lewis Johnston

DOB: 3/3/91
Height: 192cm
Weight: 87kg
Club: North Adelaide, SA

A tall forward who is quick on the lead, has strong hands and is solid in a contested situation. Johnston won All-Australian under-18 selection after providing an excellent target up forward for SA in the championships. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate. From Port Bulldogs FC.

What type of player are you?
I’m a centre half-forward who can play a lead-up role and also kick a few goals.

Strengths?
My marking and kicking are definitely my strengths. My speed isn’t too bad either – I'm pretty fast.

Weaknesses?
My weakness is my defensive side. I need to chase better and do a few more one-percenters.

Which AFL club do you support?
I’ve always supported Collingwood.

Which AFL player do you most resemble?
The clubs haven’t compared me with anyone, they’ve more just asked me who I compare myself to. I try to play like a Nick Riewoldt or Travis Cloke-type role.

We don't really need this guy. Firstly, we have some key forwards in the making - Allen and Macca - and secondly he is a Maggies fan!! *Shudder*

Yeah but Banner is in and under, very much like Luke Ball. I think we already have that area well covered.

Imo you can never have enough inside mids. Look at Hawthorn, they're everywhere.

I'm hoping Macca will be a full-time ruckmen with rests in the forward line. And Allen, well he hasn't exactly set the world on fire down at Casey. We could do a lot worse than Johnston imo. And the Collingwood thing, i think i could deal with it. Maybe. ;)

;)

Yes but players like Lewis and Sewell are able to provide a bit of offensive grunt as well. We need a player like Bateman to run forward and kick more goals. That is what Montagna should be doing.

Mitchell is the true in and under of the Hawks. Sewell is probably the hardest bloke to tackle in the AFL behind Ablett.

no more in and unders please!

Who are all these in and under blokes going to feed it to on the outside. Gram is our best carrier of the football and he's a half back and guys tend to look for him the most. Dal santo is our most skillful player but he is not a running midfielder. Joey is the closest we have.

Cousins is that hard running mid we need who can win his own footy too. Just think a Hill or Yarran would really give some zip to our side. X-man is quick but just can't hold up at the moment with his body.

Sewell is a freak. He is a terrier in the contested situations and is very quick as well. Like Gary jr.

What type of mid will young Steven be?

I've watched Steven a couple times for Casey, I think he's an outside mid? Was in and under a bit, but running past most of the time.

We also got Armo for inside players. More tackles than possessions against Hawthorn. :D

Draft countdown: Kade Klemke

Klemke246xWIM.jpg

Kade Klemke

DOB: 15/7/90
Height: 180cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Murray Bushrangers

A medium defender who reads the play well and is a fine decision maker, Klemke's strong NAB AFL under-18 championships for NSW/ACT won him All-Australian selection in 2008

Watch highlights of Kade Klemke in action

What sort of player are you?
I’m a half-back flanker who likes to zone off a bit. I like to run off and get the handball receives, so I try to work forward as well as defensively.

Strengths?
Judging the ball. I read the play pretty well.

Weaknesses?
I could work on everything, but probably my kicking and being a bit more accountable at times.

Which AFL team do you support?
Sydney Swans; the whole family pretty much follows them except for Dad who barracks for Carlton.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I base myself on Nathan Bock a bit … someone said I look a bit like him, too.
