Does anyone want to shoot themselves?

I'm pretty should I would if I had a gun.

Port got Hartlett and freeking Trengove; NO WAY!

Im happy with McKernan not Davis..
yeah im not too happy with davis either. watching his highlights and they dont look anything special. most r of him just hand balling and taking a few marks.

hope he proves me wrong though

Re: ND Pick # 10 - Discussion

SA U18 coach Brenton Phillips says: He's played predominantly as a key forward or a key back, but I actually think he has the ability to develop into a good midfielder. He has good touch, excellent endurance for a big man and also a good awareness when he's in or around the stoppages. People haven't heard a lot about Phil because he played a lot of school footy so you sort of lose track of him. He's originally from the ACT so he hasn't had a really big schooling in the game of Aussie rules and having played a bit of rugby he is a very strong and aggressive tackler.

A project player who is relatively new to the game with our first pick in the superdraft. It's like groundhog day at the AFC.

Don't judge anyone on a 2minute youtube vid, they're great just so that you can have an idea of who you've picked but not a lot else. Our recruiters would have watched many hours of video and going by many of our selections last year and how well they went I'm happy to back our recruiting team in.

Fabulous Phil Davis!

I hope he develops quicker than the last forward with shoulder problems we used our first pick on.

Welcome filthy Phil!

I thought the youtube video of him looked quite good.
I think I over reacted saying I dont like Davis, I think he could turn out alright.
Its just that at that time we didnt get Trengove and i've been on him for months.

Just something thats quite interesting

Woh, wouldnt he be the tallest midfielder you've seen ;)

Ok bout time I posted here. Bit of moaning and groaning going on here by some which I guess is to be expected when a lower profile player gets taken by us at pick 10. Davis is worth pick 10....it is a slight gamble taking him over many other players but Rendell had his plan and to his credit he stuck to it. Davis is a friggen good local lad, underhyped and underanalysed by the standard bigfooty poster. Seen a lot of Phil, he really can play, both ends of the ground, good mark, good kick, good speed and versatile as ****. He is an attractive 196cm package and he aint going home anywhere this time. Sellar clearly is on notice.

However I would make a note that Port have by far IMO the best draft. They have some real real gems there.

The fact that Davis is seen as a great kick for goal is good. Of the highlights I've seen of Trengrove, the lad can take a grab but can't kick to save himself. The last thing we need is another bloke who no one can watch kick for goal in fear of it coming off his shin.

Davis would have a heap of upside as he only turned 18 on August 30 this year.

Davis instead of Trengove is a bit like Dangerfield instead of Ebert, which also has yet to be proven one way or the other.

However, the big plus is that none of these 4 players are likely to be duds.

Personally I like our recruiting strategy. Picking a lot of talls in a draft that is known for its quality tall players. Not only do we ensure success in an area that we have been deficient in for so long (surely ALL of these players can't be a chad gibson!) but it gives our other talls *cough* sellar *cough* a kick up the arse.

Also we are preparing ourselves for the GC plundering and pillaging. Good work AFC. Looking forward to seeing our talls dominating in 2011 onwards!

i'm happy with Phil Davis at no.10...welcome to the AFC.

lol, it might be the opposite of last year: instead of wondering why we didn't pick up the local lad, there might be annoyance of why we didn't go the vic metro kid, but the difference this year is that a lot of fans now have faith in Rendell and the club.

surprised Trengove slipped so far though (i knew he wouldn't slip to the Crows 2nd rounder), and annoyed that our arch nemesis picked him up, along with Hartlett...but McKernan at pick 28 did make up for it... a bargain pickup in our eyes, despite the discussions afterwards that he was ranked around the mid-20s to early 30s picks anyway.

Yeah I agree, probably a once in a lifetime draft for talls and we got 3 that were highly rated... pretty happy with that. I'm sure there will be plenty of mid-fielders in drafts to come, and we have plenty of young one's anyway.

The more I think about this draft, the more stoked I am.

since this guy seems to be able to play a bit of everywhere. where do u guys think he will get a shot in adelaides line up? i dont no where his strongest position is so im asking.

also is he a chance to get a game in 09 or will he take some time before we see him playing some games for the crows?

since im asking the question above, does anyone think any of the picks we got might get a game in 09 or will they all take some time?

Interesting That Matt Rendell said on 5aa(Sat afternoon) that Phil Davis was always their number 1 choice. (assuming that Watts was taken first). He rated him 2nd above all others anbs said he was almost happy that he had the shoulder injury to take him off the radar. He had been earmarked sinced last year's under age finals. He was rapt. Trengrove injury was a bit of a concern.

Rendell on 5aa now. Said Davis was ranked number 2 behind Watts on our list.

 He must be super then.

Anyone have a video of him playing up forward? Only the video of him down back- he looks solid but not "number 2" standard. His kicking when it came off was excellent but he kicked a floater or 2. Obviously he hasn't played much this year because of his shoulder but I trust the recruiters have seen him and that there's a reason he was rated at number 2.
