Just wondering which teams have definately committed to the Colts comp for next year? And also will the league still allow open age players to fill in for sides that don't quiet have the numbers?
I know Heatherton are trying hard to get them for next year, but with no juniors to draw on they may need 5-6 open age players to get a side together.
Would think Chelt,Hampton,Murrumbeena,Clayton,StPauls,Highett and Dingley will all get a team together.

At least that many teams for 09 with probably 1 or 2 from another source Im told. It would be good if the SFL had a true Colts comp along with a "club 18" style comp with Mount, South Y Doveton and 1 or 2 others.

Cheltenham, Hampton, Dingley, Skye, Murrumbeena, St Kilda City, St Pauls, Clayton, Highett, plus 3 that are 70% chances plus at least 1 from another league that finish at 17's.

Clinton 'Darth' Einsiedel is coaching the Heatherton Colts team for 2009. Well done on the appointment mate! He has been busy along with other Tunner committee making a fist of getting the team up and running. Hopefully his endeavours will prove successful as it will be good for the long-term benefit of the club.

i hope dandenong dont play colts next year, played them in u17s this year beat them by 200 and 180 pts both games and got kicked out of the comp half way through the year for continous unsportsman like play..may aswell have a bye

that is if you are talking about the same dandenong team we played..dandenong saints?

Yeah Clayton committed but down on numbers and lost the coach due to work reasons so looking around at the moment.

It will be the savior for some of our clubs in terms of younger players, perhaps some Mums and Dads helping around the clubs and Senior teams with youth and pace were ther best performed in 2008 generally. Go Eagles!!

Looks like the VAFA will go head to head with the SFL on an U18 competition for 2009 and beyond.

It will be interesting to see if some of the schools dictate where their students can play on the weekend and the lock down of some district sides to keep players there.

Can't see Hammers picking up too many Rovers or East Sandy juniors.

Interesting times for the survival of SFL I think with the Colts

U18 COMPETITION GOING AHEAD IN 2009

The VAFA's new U18 Section will go ahead in 2009, with 11 clubs currently flagging their intentions to field a side in the inaugural competition.

The VAFA's exciting new U18 competition has been given the go ahead by the VAFA Board at their recent end of year seminar, with club's from both within and outside the VAFA expressing interest in being part of it's first season.
The U18 Section will not replace any U19 Sections, rather it will service a need for some clubs who have difficulty in bringing junior players through to their U19 or senior sides. Currently, expressions of interest have been expressed by the following clubs with most certain they will be ready to go come April -
South Melbourne Districts
Oakleigh
St Bernards
Therry Penola
Bulleen Templestowe
Hampton Rovers
St Bedes Mentone Tigers
Beaumaris

As well as these VAFA clubs, expressions of interest have been shown by 3 clubs from outside the VAFA, however due to the VAFA's screening processes and political sensitivities, these clubs cannot be named as yet.
Some exciting aspects of this competition will be Friday night matches and curtain raisers to U19 and senior matches.
If your club wishes to express an interest in entering a side for 2009, please contact Jeremy Bourke on 9537 6705 or jeremy@vafa.com.au

It may make it a little more difficult to get players for teams now that the VAFA have started their own under 18's comp but at least the SFL are having a crack at it. In the long run its only good for their survival without the juniors only more clubs will drop off which isn't good for footy.

Any juniors out their who aren't sure what their doing next season and are still keen for a kick come down to Heatherton F.C. They are starting up an u/18s side for the 1st time in their history and are interested in any prospective players to come down for a training run. We are training on Wednesday nights from 6.00pm. Meet at Heatherton Recreation Reserve, Ross St.

The VAFA are trying to get support for the under 18 comp but if you are Beaumaris or St Bedes considetr this - 3 of the 8 sides are Point Cook, Strathmore and Werribee, if the games are starting as curtain raiserts to reserves then games will start at say 10am early rise boys.... maybe some are just getting home..

what teams have put there hands up and are definitely going to field a colts side next year?

I believe only two clubs have confirmed sides.

League is very worried about the colts this year and are lobbying clubs to come up with a solution. All are concerned that VAFA are launching an U18's comp in 2009 and will 'drain the well' so to speak and numbers will be low.

An idea is to play a 16 a side game and take out the wings?

Not looking good at the moment.

do away with the forward and back pockets also would not hurt for one or two years

What do away with forward / back pockets as well as wings. R u serious? How can u play a 12 a side footy game.....ridiculous. I'd be happy with the no wings policy and having 16-a-side that sounds reasonable.

North of the river is ill informed, try Cheltenham, Hampton, Dingley, Murrumbeena, Skye, City, Chelsea, and 1 or 2 others that all will have teams in 09 . Maybe North of the River you should continue to support and lobby for the VAFA and p off.

Only two sides are paid and signed up Jimmy so I'm more informed than you are moron. The others especially Skye who are very doubtful, are waiting until mid Feb when other factors are forthcoming.

Take it as you will.
