Fitzroy..never forgotten!
Im still depressed and gutted about last night, It is so hard supporting Richmond sometimes... why we do it, ill never know..

but watching Carlton last night, despite however reason they obtained him...

the fact is, He is just the most brilliant footballer in every way. I have not seen him play for quite sometime, but he is without a doubt the best player in the AFL by a long way! The way he finds the ball, always finds the best option and its like he is invisible in traffic... they can never stop him!

The man is not human!

Good to finally hear a logical Tigers fan admitt it!!

There will be another thread exactly the same as this posted here 2moro morning but with Ablett or Franklin is number 1.

1 game into the season, and he was playing against Witches Hats. If he manages to play well against Hawthorn or Geelong (which he failed to do in both games last year) then I'll probably agree that he's back to his best. Not there yet though

With a full pre-season under his belt I have no doubt that he can get back to his best, and his best will make him the no 1 player in the AFL again.

Let's wait to see what guys like Franklin, Ablett, Hodge, Pav, etc deliver over the coming days. Judd played a super match last night but he faces some stiff competition.

A little man named Ablett and a big guy named Buddy might have something to say about that!

If he wasn't playing against a laughably poor Richmond this thread might have some integrity... however...

Look, he's a very skilled outside midfielder. He rarely won his own ball last night, but when he was given it - usually in high pressure situations, sure - he used it to excellent effect and the benefit of his team. I believe that Baby Ablett is a far more well-rounded player. Far more. And just as skilled. Judd is good, but Ablett is better.

Strange I was thinking to myself last night how he clearly had been passed by a few players these days as the number 1 (althought still one of the elite)

Judd is a gun but I think Ablett has gone past him at the moment. At this point in time, Ablett is more dangerous up forward and you can't tackle him. In 10 rounds time if Judd stays healthy could be a difference story. And we don't really know what Buddy will do this year. He has the potiental (mainly due to his size and youth) to go past both, but lets face it. If you had any, would you be worried?

I wouldnt be getting too excited just yet as I could have ran around and had 30 and a few snag rolls last night against Richmond, actually one of the worst performances I have ever seen from an AFL side..

You must be joking, he is probably the best inside midfielder in the comp

Only Ablett can match him in that regard.

would it be different if judd was playing at geelong and ablett at carlton?

skill wise i'd say they're pretty much even when at their best (ie. ablett better atm) but when you factor in leadership and affect on players around them, judd takes it out.

but there's always two sides to it...which im sure someone will allude to quite soon

He wasn't even the best player last night against crap opposition, let alone the best player in the comp. I actually think Marc Murphy will be a better midfielder than Judd this season.

+1. can't believe i'm agreeing with a freo supporter. but outside midfielder is quite an interesting statement considering he had the most number of contested possessions last year

Honestly I think it goes:
1. Ablett
2. Buddy
3. Judd

But off the field, no one brings more to a club than Judd. The way he's lifted his teammates and brought the swagger back is outstanding.

+2 I can't believe I'm agreeing with a Carlton supporter agreeing with a Freo supporter. 12 contested possession last night (equal game high) and 7 clearances (game high) is hardly an outside midfielder. Judd has clearly lost a yard in pace but has managed to overcome that to remain a superstar.
Whether he is better than Ablett is debatable. Ablett still has the breakaway pace Judd used to have......

Agreed. That handball over the top to eddie betts was a good as you'll see. Was mightily impressed

Ablett is still the better midfielder IMO - Judd was good last night but Richmond hardly made it tough for him........

Didn't you see Jackson wearing him like a glove ...he was all over him at every stoppage ...and still Judd was possibly BOG...Richmond made it as tough as they could.

He is till right up there along with Ablett as the best midfielder in the comp .

Problem is he did what he had to do and had a hard tag early. Lets see him against a quality midfield and not Coburgs midfield.

Judd is pretty bloody good dont forget that, he is the best midfielder at Carlton and in the top 2 or 3 in the league. (2nd I would put him after Gaz)

Well third after Tambling and then Gaz

I still believe Judd's best has Ablett covered, particularly as a genuine midfielder. Ablett has Judd covered when he goes forward though - too slippery. Though right now - if I wanted a player for this weekend - i'd go ablett.

At Carlton - all the focus is on Judd - gibbs and murphy are quality players, but not at the Judd, Ablett level yet. Which is why he won't get 30+ touches and kick 4 goals.

However at west coast they had to content with Kerr, Cousins and an AA fletcher at the time. the focus couldn't just be on Judd - which is why he would dominate.

Geelong have a similar story - it can't always be about Ablett - as there is Bartel, Corey and Selwood to worry about - not to mention Chapman and Johnson who go high up the ground and almost play as midifielders.

Put Ablett at Carlton and he wouldn't seem to be as good. He still would be - just his output would be down. I thought last year Judd showed just how good he was. Playing the inside bullocking role as good as any midifielder in the comp. Truly the complete midfielder.

Well what I meant was that Judd is rarely on the bottom of the pack, actually winning the ball. He receives it. He regularly wins one-on-one contests around the ground, the HF line, the wings etc, but around stoppages he's the guy who receives the handball. He's lightning quick and has great disposal but I'm just saying that he's not exactly ripping the ball out of the air from an opposition tap or picking it up off the ground and sprinting away with it.... all the time.

The only reason he isn't at the bottom of the packs is becuase he is probably the strongest midfielder since Robert Harvey - so he keeps his feet.

At Carlton he is the guy who gives the handball - not receives it - stop now you are embarassing yourself
