Popped in to training this morning for part of the session. Was a lovely day and the hallowed turf looked beautiful. A few senior players were doing reduced workload like running laps for part of the session, which I guess is normal.

The main thing to report was those players who trained with the senior group when they split up: of those not in the team on Sunday, those with the ones included CJ, Harro, Watt, Goldstein, Ross, Warren, Tarrant (!). Both Grima and Greenwood were with the twos, which would mean they're probably not in contention for the seniors this week. Sorry, not sure who Leigh Adams trained with. Riggio, Smith, Gartlett (and possibly one or two others) did stationery work.

The twos were doing some skills work in front of me, and I tell you, Marcus White is a fantastic kick of the footy. His delivery to Azza in the drills was, well, almost as un-North Melbourne-like as Sam Wright's hair.

Thanks for the report GFN. ALL reports from training are most welcome, no matter their size, unless they include the words "went down in a screaming heap" and "looks like a serious injury"!

T'toes

Add "accidental collision" and "turned up smelling like a brewery" to that list, TT.

Perhaps it was just the effect of that rumour thread re Tarrant, but I had a dream last night that Tarrant debuted this weekend against WB and had a more than solid match with 1 goal, 5 behinds and 8 marks.

Could it really happen?

Time will tell.

I should have added the following para to my report, apologies:

Shortly after I arrived at training, another roos supporter turned up smelling like a brewery. It was good to see CrazyQ make the effort to get to training though. TOD also arrived late, accompanied by a uniformed police officer. I can only presume this was part of his stringent new bail conditions. About 20 metres along from me, I could see two men arguing about membership projections. As the argument became more heated, one snatched a red clipboard from the guy next to them, who was wearing a Werribee shirt… poor Ben went down in a screaming heap, looks like a serious injury. Darwin Roo then attacked Mr Reliable with the clipboard, blood was shooting everywhere, horrific scenes. Not wanting to expose my baby daughter to more carnage, I left the ground. On Fogarty St, I observed our high performance manager, Donald McDonald, struggling to get a barbeque out of a car with one hand and hold his tracksuit pants up with the other… made we wish that the Boggler had made a surprise return to training at Arden St.

Are you suggesting we drop Smith after one game?

Some people's expectations of Smith after last week baffles me. He played his 3rd game of AFL football. It's impossible to pass judgements on him until he plays at least 15-20 games.

As much as I think Tarrant may be a good player for us in time, I can't see how would add any more to the side than Smith right now.

The sooner we get Tarrant in the team, the better. Will be a gun the way the modern game is played, has all the tools (apart from stable shoulders). It will benefit us greatly going forward to pump 10-15 senior games into him this season.

He wont play the way Smith does, but if they are willing to have Petrie and Hale share the second ruck duties, then Smith must make way for team balance.

And Im still a huge rap for Adams, seems like the little fella has recovered well from his injuries, all things being equal he must play a role this year.

Time will tell.

Was watching Wipeout Australia last night (shoot me), and JB dropped a 'time will tell'. Nearly choked on my smoked salmon.

Disappointed Grima wasn't training with the ones, even if he isn't going to get a game, would still like to keep him keen.

Is your opinion based on personally seeing him play at Under 18 level?

I am suggesting nothing of the sort and don't expect Tarrant to play.

I do like that a massive, athletic 19yo CHF we drafted in the first round is training with the senior group and obviously close-ish to senior footy.

A comparison between Tarrant and Jesse Smith is due, we all agree that JWS has had a shocking run of injuries but we seem to forget that Tarrant has had a similar bad run and was also a highly regarded draft pick, one wonders what we'd look like if both had a dream run on the injury front.

The question about Tarrant is what will his future position be?

Judging from the weekend, it looks like 3 out of the 4 key positions are settled if they decided to go with Hale (FF), Petrie (CHF), and Hansen (CHB) in the long term. It also allows McIntosh and Goldstein to become our long term ruck duo. Last year, there was talk that Tarrant might be tried at FB. If he maintains his athleticism, and he learns to read the play well enough, then our goal to goal line might be settled for the next six to ten years.

But if they decide that Tarrant is to be developed as a FF, then they've got to decide on what to do with Hale, Petrie, Goldstein, and McIntosh.
