I have to agree with Patrick Batemen here. Whilst Gibbs has great vision and skills, he still pulls up when going for the contested ball and most of his possessions are soft ones on the half back line.

Gibbs was outstanding tonight.
Playing in the midfield and HBF. his vision and disposal are sublime. Opposition players can't tackle him, and he knows it, quite strong around the mid section and not even 20 years old. Gibbs is a freak.

You'll get the same opinion from most non-Carlton fans, I don't expect Carlton supporters to agree with me... most supporters are one-eyed towards their team. Fair enough. Just laying down the reality check some of them need, even if they do choose to write it off.

Players like Murphy/Judd will be a better yard stick for how your side is going than Gibbs being why they are the types always tagged. If your midfielders get pounded, Gibbs will struggle. If Gibbs ever gets a hard tag, lets compare him to 'the elite' when that time comes, see how he measures up.

Took a nice mark tonight running with the flight of the ball, Simpson put a little hospital pass out in front of him, didn't take his eyes off the ball & converted the goal.

So the one game you saw summarises his career does it?

For the record, Gibbs had 3 clangers last week - out of 30 possessions. Hardly terrible. Do you really want to keep this up? It's obvious to everyone in this thread you know shit **** all about footy

3 clangers is a mistake because i watched the game again and saw him miss AT LEAST 6 targets by foot when he was in the clear. Watch the game again, you'll see.

I don't judge him on one game, I've seen a fair bit of him, like I said, smooth mover, good skills, can be damaging but his hurt factor at this stage is ridiculously overblown, nowhere near elite yet, might get there, might not but at this stage its all about bating off at his potential for carlton fans

But we're talking about McVeigh now vs Gibbs now.

And it gets pretty embarrassing for Gibbs when you stack him up against a player who's performances won about half the matches he was fit for last year.

Besides, at only 20 years old, McVeigh broke into a premiership side. had a best on ground performance and played in a Grand Final. No doubt Gibbs is far behind in that regard. Also Gibbs has shirked more contests in just 2 years than McVeigh has in 10. All signs point to McVeigh I'm afraid. :) :thumbsu:

Gotta love the one-eyed fans on this website, sheesh

Watch Gibbs run towards the contest and mark Simpson's pass to kick the goal.

Gibbs is soft and a cherry picker like Steve Johnson.

Gibbs is a hard player to tackle and side stepped opponents with ease tonight.

Good luck with tagging Gibbs because you have to stop Judd and Murphy first.

18 effective kicks tonight.

LMFAO!! Ok, so I should ignore all the stats sites, and take the word of a bigfooty poster who has already proved that the claims he makes are wrong? Whatever mate

Bewildering, some people.

Very fast becoming an elite player, is Gibbs. Imagine the opposition will begin to put a bit more pressure on him - too damaging to leave him to himself racking up 30 touches and use it as he does.

WOW WOW WOW!!! This kid is special, i've said it from day dot that he will be the best player for us within a few years and i'm getting more vindicated by the week.

His disposal and decision making is second to none and his ability to find the pill is first class. 91% efficiency from 35 touches, he oozes class and composure. Time stops when he gets the ball, freak player!!

I hope oppositions put a tag on Gibbs, it'll allow Chris Judd to have a picnic like hid in the first half today with no player hanging off him! Murphy is a star to that side step goal when we were being challenged in the last was special. Kruezer!!

Those spoons are now becoming less painful!

just got home from the game, id put the house on him getting 3 votes tonight, he was sensational
which makes things a little more interesting considering i put a pineapple on him before rd1 of the nab cup to win the charlie... (i bet if the TAB still had him at $201 you would too)

there are so many things about his game that impress me and the kid only turned 20 2 weeks ago
fact is, people can slap whatever name they want on him, carlton supporters are going to love him regardless and we have every right to
he is spesh.

Keep the personal attacks coming you hero, but at the end of the day, Gibbs is on my team.

Therefore, I win.

:)

83 points by the way.

Last week we had 15 odd goals from Richmond turnover and only 8 from direct play. Therefore, kicking it to a richmond player was the more effective option, so any 'clangers' from last week should be disregarded.
