If a team is spending btwn $100k and $150k on their players then surely $20k on a reasonable quality coach is not a bad thing.

Always interests me how many clubs recycle unsuccessful coaches who have been around for a long time rather than investing some time and energy into finding a good coach.

Its a shame because douttaswere terrible last year and will be terrible again this year, only they will be saved again by a b grade side such as Glenroy who will go down

Also when are presidents of sides going to realise there is no point spending $20,000 on a coach such as john barnes when you can get somebody who knows the local game and loves the club for free, then spend the $20,000 on player payments

Just like that "local" Keilor bloke Mick McGuane who coached his "local" side in his "local" area for the love of his "local" club...........FLOG!

Don't necessarily agree there KFC, as I think that with Barnes you will get someone with footy connections & contacts, which is where I and the club fell away after Steve Kolyniuk left. I didn't have the necessary contacts, etc., to build the club, and that is where I failed terribly. I think that you do need to offer the money to get a high-profile such as Steve & John to help build the stocks. It worked with Steve, and we will see how John goes by season end. Just my opinion though. Cheers.

Refreshingly honest there Ghost. Makes you wonder what is more important to a club these days............a bloke who can coach a bit or a recruiter that has the network and respect to lure the quality to the club for the bloke who can coach a bit to finish of the good work.

Northern Saints 18s had a big win over Marby by 70 points, ressies had a good win too over Parkside with the undermanned seniors going down by a few goals after a slow start. All the recruits were again firing.

Still an outside chance that Glenroy will play in B grade and swap with Oak Park who will remain in A grade.;) Stay tuned for what may be a surprise announcement at the end of this week or early next week.

glenroy are in for a longggg year.pacco gave em a 21 goal flogging, way they played on the weekend they wouldnt finish in the top 10 in B Grade. oak park should of stayed up

Perhaps Eagle one is eight after all. Heard a whisper out of Glenroy that Glenroy have made request to the the EDFL be place B Grade for 2009 season. So will Oak Park come up , or maybe Tulla (last year B Grade runners up) or will there be 2 round of byes for everyone in A grade in 2009?

i wouldnt be counting a win against marby under 18's a win. they dont even have a side last year they scored about 5 goals for the year.
As for playing parkside they played round 1 last week how coukld you play them in a practice match??

It may have been Parkside FC that plays in the Northern FL Div 2

its not happening, period!!!!!!!!
I know the perception is that we will get hammered in A Grade this year with player loses and practice match form, but practice games are just what we call them, there for practice.

A part of me would be quite content to of stayed in B Grade this year again, but the club has said all along from day 1 that A grade is where we will be playing, so all these rumours are just crap and the people who spread them are just losing their creditability.

Glenroy will play A Grade this year and we will do everything possible to remain there for upcoming seasons.

people i want some updates on greenvale. how are they looking this year? i see 2 possibilities for them....they come bak and stick it up everyone and avenge for last years shock defeat...or they fall in a heap. what are everyone's thoughts?
they have the best player in the league in jorgenson...but will he have enough support? word on the street is that the gun vincent "the nose" randello is not as fit as the past few years, as well as some of the other key mids.
very interested on other people's thoughts....

Glenroy are in A Grade because they earned the right, they were the best team in B Grade last year. And we would expect nothing less from Glenroy than to have a go. I hope for their sake that they can be competitive and rack up a few wins. Good luck guys and stick it up the rest of them, especially the teams that are stil in B grade wishing they had your opportunity!!!!!

Mrs Randello,
Please stop posting about your son Vincenzo. The constant attention is becoming a concern for him and is giving his team mates plenty of verbal ammo against him at training.
As for Greenvales prospects this year, unlike some other clubs they do not attempt to predict the outcome prior to the season commencing. Please continue to support Vincenzo by attending the games and cheering as per usual.

Regards, Bomber44

Not sure why someone would leave it this late to leave a club ....

Craziburn are at Sunbury i hear!

not sure about how many the stars had out, but they did have some out..!

Money Money Money its a dirty word in local football as far as i am concerned..!:cool:

it's 2 weeks before the start of the season proper, and with all this debate about Glenroy, Oak Park and so on, who would like to list their ladder predictions for A and B grade :D

I think they will be a slightly better side this year, their top 4 or 5 are good, but then fall away sharply. With a few more numbers they would be a much better side. Still a handy win for a side playing B Grade with plenty of players still out.
