Taking your thread swannies!

At least I have a relaxing weekend ahead, with no stress on Swans to win, although we could still drop to third after the weekend. Is this the weekend that Subi finally establish their superiority, which they have struggled to do most of the year, and will East Freo and Peel make up for the one that slipped away last week?

Tigers v Falcons - Falcons need to win this one to stay even with Swans and keep ahead of East Freo and Peel. Tigers are looking to be gaining some form and want to get off the bottom. AFL ins and outs will strongly affect this game, if Seaby is out for the Falcons then the contest is evened up, or if McGinnity, B Jones or Wilkes are out for the Tigers then the pendulum swings back in the Falcons favour. Wet and windy days are never any fun at Claremont Oval, which will turn into a mud pie quicker than if you said Warren Ralph's name. It usually has a howler running to one of the ends as well. It was a damp, depressing day last year that the sublime skills of Chris Yarran were put on notice at this oval, but I digress. Strangely enough, I would back the Tigers in a wet slugfest, with a fleet of runners, led by Jaxon Crabb, suited to the task. On the other hand there is a formidable forward line to quell but with Handley, B Jones and Thomson they have the personnel to stop them. I'm shivering with cold just thinking about Claremont Oval in the wet, but this should be a cracker.

Sharks v Royals - well the ground doesn't get any less boggy at this fixture and the Sharks have a platoon of mudlarks. In fact, it's probably the only thing that will slow Houlihan down, unless he can also walk on water! The sharks started well against the tiges last week, but gave up a lead and the Royals played well in the blustery surrounds of Margaret River. Will McKinley remain for the Royals? Has Clarke been given the nod for a debut for Freo? With Merrington back last week, we at least saw Noakes given some support, at last. Hardingham would probably take Noakes and I'd use McCarrey on Merrington, but then who on McKinley? If Spangher is back, question answered. In the middle there is Green, Basile, Houlihan, Hall, Davidson, Bongiascia, McLeod, Dunn, Monk against Wulff, Brennan, Hutchins, Travers, McAulay, Byrne, Seal, B Noakes, Mills, Pickering. Fairly even contest I would suggest, although I will lean slightly towards the home side.

Demons v Bulldogs - If the demons really want to play finals football then they need to start winning, now. Souths will be bitterly disappointed by the result against the Lions and I expect them to come out hard at Perth, who I hope are expecting it, otherwise it will get ugly. They were lacklustre in the first half last week but worked a lot harder in the second half against Swans, but alas the damage was done. K-T and Young got a mountain of the ball, but really didn't do any damage with their possessions. The most damaging was Butler and if he is recalled to the eagles then the Demons are in some strife. Cook's hardness was really missed and so was Bell's for the Bulldogs. Moody against his original pre-draft side should be interesting. Will Jarman swing the changes or go with the same and expect a better result from them? I have no doubt Dimmer will have his charges up and about, so sorry Demons fans, I think Souths will get up in this one.

Lions v Thunder - Lions have started asserting their superiority lately and the Thunder have fallen away under pressure. Peel, who are a game behind East Freo, must make a stand this weekend otherwise with only 7 games after this weekend (they have 2 byes) they may find themselves having to make up 3 games on the top 4 sides. Can Peel maintain the pressure on Subi for a whole game, as that is what's required to topple them. Deny them the ball, deny them space and time otherwise Read, Hildebrandt, Cossom, Keevers, Cockie, Pickett, Randall et al will carve you up. So can Ware, Bloxsidge, Schofield, Haines, Howlett, O'Brien, Rosa, Arrowsmith, Battye carry this out? They look to have the players capable, and Subi have been a little up and down (by their lofty standards), so they're a chance, depends how much they want finals games? I'm leaning (rather heavily) towards the Lions in this one.

Try and stay warm this weekend, take your thermos and enjoy some good wet weather football. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

No Swans this week.

Perth are gonna struggle without Butler.

Houlihan 15
McNamara 17 to 3 quarter time.

Thought id do a bit of a round up I heard on the radio coupled with stats. I will mention there is a big furore over Ashley Smiths non selection at Perth. Eagles are doing there best to move him to East Fremantle over the coming weeks.

Chad Fletcher - 38 possessions 11 marks 2 goals. Enough said. Was a class above and then some

Lewis Stevenson - Apparantly the best game he has ever played for Claremont, 28 possessions 7 marks and 1 goal but he won alot of hard ball and got crunched twice and still came back on to make a impact. Showed alot of tougness to go with his athleticism and clean skills he already has

Patrick McGinnity - Another good game tagging but also importantly winning the hard ball. Got 16 possessions with 8 of them clearances. For a tagger he sure can win a clearance. Deserves a AFL call up.

Mark Seaby - Best WAFL game of the season. 20 possessions 32 hitouts but most importantly he ran hard and used his older body to good use. Was named West Perths best player

Tim Houlihan - Not his best game. Was kept a close eye on. Ended up with 22 stats which is low for him but amassed a sensational 10 tackles to go with it. Very good for a kid with still a skinny body. Hopefully the club dont turf him. I think hes got a bit of Grant Birchall about him

Jamie McNamara - HEAVILY tagged with 2 rotating on him. Ended up with 20 possessions and 1 goal. Broke the tag late on but a decent game in the circumstances

Adam Cockie - 24 possessions and 2 goals 1. Played second fiddle to Fletcher but most interestingly he did spend a bit of time up forward apparantly. Cockie a forward pocket. Dont see why not...

Callum Wilson - I wish we didnt have so many KPPs cos he is the awesome atm. 5 goals 4 with 2 on the fulls. 19 possessions and 11 marks to boot. If we trade away the likes of B.Jones, Staker, Hansen, Wilkes then I say upgrade the lad

Brett Jones - 20 possessions of a half back flank. Did nothing to suggest hes ready for a AFL return

Ashley Arrowsmith - 15 possessions and 3 goals. Still cant see him getting upgraded. Lacks pace and doesnt really have the football smarts to make up for it

Will Schofield - Im surprised he just doesnt coach the team. Its the only position he hasnt played this year. Played off a wing and got 20 possessions in a solid game but all this switching cant be good for his development

Will Sullivan - 10 possessions 20 hitouts. His around the ground work simply MUST improve over the next 2 months if hes to earn himself another contract at the club

According to the West Ash Smith didnt come on for Perth until just before half time. Then only got 5 minutes in the third and Eagles arent happy about it. Hopefully he moves clubs because its not really fair on him

Is that just Jarman being a ****wit?

Did he get any possessions at all in that 7 minutes?

I read my email wrong. He had 7 mins playing time near the end of 3 qtr time. He played the last quarter in its entirety pretty much and got 9 possessions for the matchm but his first 3 kicks were all clangers apparantly. Stil ridiculous. Hes probbaly gonna be released tomorrow.

D*ckhead coach.

Looks like we have alot of players doing well in the WAFL, Wilson and Stevenson - very good news.

Was Smith in the reserves?

Nah this was the seniors. Perth had one or two injury problems (or illness) so Smith was a IN for this week. No idea what he did but he had about 3 mins playing time in the first half. Went back on midway for the third and then finally started in the last quarter. Jarman clearly doesnt like him on a personal level

Apparantly it mainly stems from a incident in Smiths 2nd game where Jarman was blasting him for lack of pressure despite the fact a) it wasnt him and b) he wasnt on the field when said incident occured. Smith took offence and told him where to shove it. Ever since than hes been frozen out. Jarmans just a plain ol w***er. The guy makes Brad Hardie seem intelligent. Hes ruining the Perth Football Club with his insane ego and downright incompetence and lack of detail in his job

Sounds like a knob. I hope the Eagles do move Smith on then. He's probably better off in the 3rd's then if this is the way he is gonna be treated till he gets a proper shot at League level

They should move him to Swan Districts  :p

Honestly though, the higher ups at the Demons should look at this. If the coach has a personal problem with a player and can't get his ego around it for the best of the club, well then that's just bad coaching.

I second, as Swans single handedly brought excitement back to the footy with Naita! We deserve it. :thumbsu: It was all our doing, no natural talent involved at all. :D

Embers, terrific write ups, thanks. I really hope Perth get their shite together.

I don't think i have ever seen a bigger w***er in the footy industry than Jarman. It wouldn't be hard to have a personailty conflct with someone like him and the question must be asked why did the Perth footy club import this loser into the WAFL. Complete d***head.

But the question must also be asked, what is the source of the conflict between the two and why is it that Ash Smith is having conflict with authority already so early in his career? It's not common for 17 year old draftees to have to be moved between clubs after only being there 3 months due to arguments with the coach.

In the first few days after he was drafted i was told by a mate who works in the Collingwood recruitment dept that Ash Smith had the lowest scores on personailty and psych testing of any player they had ever tested, had a very bad rep for being a troublemaker and had slid so far down the draft orrder for these reasons and was going to be a very difficult bloke to control and manage. I posted it on here at the time. And from what blokes who follow the WAFL on here have been posting about him before now and then now after this incident it's beginning to look prophetic. It's a bad omen that Smith is causing problems, making enemies and being antagonistic to authority already. And he is not even getting a regular game in the WAFL seniors yet. Most 17 year olds would be scared of the coach and would do what they were told.

Fair call, but several of the better players in the AFL have a similar trait (ie. f**k you, I'm better, watch me burn you off at the next contest). Provided it CAN be managed (and I'm not saying it can in this case, time will tell), that trait alone could help him develop into a great footballer. It could also go the other way and cause him to not work hard enough, but I don't think we'll know for a year or two yet.

IMO we should give the kid a bit of a break for now, he has moved across the entire country and thrown head-long into a foreign environment... Let him settle.

OK enough reading. Lets put the record straight !!!!

what is the source of the conflict between the two and why is it that Ash Smith is having conflict with authority
Don't ask Ash, he has no idea. Jarman called him soft and sent him back to the reserves to improve and promised that if he played 2 good weeks he would get a game back in the league. Jarman kept his promise, and then proceeded to leave hime on the bench for the first half and part of the last two quarters. No expanation, no comment. Jarman is suppossed to be a coach helping to develop players, physically and mentally. Afraid he may have trouble with the latter. Another Perth player left under rumours of a lack of communication with the coach. Seems to be a common denominator.

"had a very bad rep for being a troublemaker'

'Smith is causing problems, making enemies and being antagonistic to authority already.'
Please provide evidence or apologise. Never heard anything further from the truth

Ash has settled well in Perth loves the Eagles management and has had NO issues with ANYONE, except for Jarman and his ego.

Jarman needs to take a good look at himself if he has ambitions to coach at a higher level. This was a stepping stone for him and it looks like Perth is a rabble of a club at the moment. I feel sorry for management at Perth who thought they had hired a great mentor and coach. Results on the board and not humourous cr.. needs to be the focus

Things will change this week. Stay tuned.
