You need to send me the specific messages you got so I can check it out. I do not get any messages when I open the site.

It pops up as a ripoff of Windows Security messages, its a very well known piece of malware. It started as winsecurity a few years back, now it is usually called System Security 2009.

Does it not count as downloading when you view an image posted that was hotlinked from another site? I have no idea about this stuff, hence it taking me two days to fix it.

Here's a link to the one I had:

You still have to download and actively run a piece of software. Viewing an image or a Flash banner isn't going to infect your computer.

Well I don't know then, but its a bastard of a thing. Shuts down all your other programs, claiming they're "infected" then tries to charge you $70 for software to remove all the "infected" software (the best deal in town!)

I've moved this to the computers board. Should be some help here from our resident experts.

And yeah, you really do have to download something to get an infection on your computer. Things like Flash, as far as I know, do not have the access to your machine to really mess things up.

Well I got rid of the file, but (and not trying to be inflammatory) I won't be going back to TLC til it is fixed.

disagree

my AV at home was popping up a warning message saying that something something wanted to do something something and did I want to quarantine it

neither IE's popup blocker or Google Toolbar popup blocker identified anything, nor did they try and block anything. basically, if my AV proggie* hadn't picked it up, I would have said virus too.

*AntiVir FTW

I didn't download anything, and I got it.

This.

What happened to mine was - I literally typed "www.limboclub.com" into my address bar, and upon the site loading fully, the window shut, and the computer restarted itself.

When it turned back on, I had that virus bubble pop up every now and then, and PC Security 2009 tried to install itself on my computer.

Tried it on the home PC - same thing. It only started when the page was fully loaded (home page of TLC).

I'll go back on the virus-r*ped computer that is Dad's home PC, but not on anything else until I'm 100% sure I won't get the same virus again.

I've already fixed mine mate; if anybody is struggling, just google the name of the pop up window; then it's just a matter of whether you're comfortable deleting files and registry entries yourself, or whether you download some other program to do it.

The second paragraph, we aren't computer illiterate mate, and there are at least 4 of us telling you the exact same thing - that we picked up a malware infection from TLC without downloading anything.

I'm not sure how the hell it works either, but it's obviously something that's a bit weird and needs investigating.

Got it again today. Both times it happened at TLC, I didn't download anything, I was using the work computer (with IE7) and it bypassed CA Internet Security. Removed it fairly easily with Malwarebytes. At home, with Firefox, no problems AFAIK.

Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 are at risk, but people running IE 8 are not vulnerable, Symantec said."

So a browser upgrade should help?

Can't hurt, do you guys take all the XP updates?

If chrome uses the Microsoft ActiveX Control (which I think it does) it may be. Anyone on Firefox had this issue?

Yeah. Dad's Home PC is running Firefox. Same problem.

Only FireFox?

I think the computer has Firefox & IE installed on it. Not sure what version of IE but I only use Firefox.

Dad's laptop has an older version of IE.
