What an insipid performance, did they know if they won they made the finals??????????????????? more ordinary team selections Knighta *shakes head in disgust*

We are stuck with a lot of what we have. There is no easy way out over the next few years with GC and West Sydent coming in.
They simply have to make sure that they get a couple of good players per draft over the next few years and try and make the bottom end of the 8 while working away on the list. Hopefully they can put enough in place that will see us in the top 4 picture while Ryder, Hurley , Pears, Zaka etc are in their prime.

I am more pissed off that i had our list pretty well pegged at the start of the year and it has proven to be very close to the mark. Mt prediction was 10 or 11 wins and just miss the 8 and i can tell you i am not overly pleased that i was right. In fact i am extremely pissed off!!.

Do you think though that we have been chipping away at it for the last couple of years? I think I'd prefer the club go hard at trade time. Everyone believes this "picks are gold" crap because of WS and GC, so why not go hard at a big name or two?

What we have at the mo is players like Dempsey, Ryder, Pears and Watson developing into gun players. Hurley is obviously going to be a decent player. We should be trying to get some support for these guys, rather than getting the next bunch of kids, waiting for them to develop and in that time the aforementioned players might be dropping off the perch a bit the way McVeigh has, Welsh has been poor for mine lately and Winder's body continues to let him down.

I dunno, maybe its just sour grapes. But 10 wins (2007), 8 wins (2008) and 9.5-10.5 wins (2009) is getting very frustrating.

LOL, will be interesting. We kept him quiet last time I think, plus we have the bonus of no Roughhead to be his foil. I can't remember who played on him last time, was it Fletch?

Agree with this. Teams make the finals and the ethos is to play for the moment. Given the compromised drafts that are on their way, why shouldn't we 'recruit for the moment'. And so the same names get thrown up again - Pavlich, Kerr etc etc

Didn't want to start a new thread because the board is already a mess but Ricky Dyson was superb today. He was our hardest worker through the midfield and never gave up, he attacked the contest and ran hard.

Credit to you, Ricky.

One the coach did get right and 99.9% of Essendon supports got wrong.
He was certainly on my early delsit group but he has done really well this year.

Posted this on Bay 13, but **** me this place is more depressing.

Really bad matchups today.. Got killed with Freo's run.. Got killed by freo in the ruck.. Got killed in every contest by freo..

We play terrible on big open grounds.. Sandilands dominating all day didn't help either.

I think this is what went through knighta's mind this week: "lol, you know what'd be funny, beating the best team in the league, to then losing to the worst team the following week, haha... the supporters will love this!"

Really, then why am I the third person since your comment to say you are wrong.
I suggest our future is bleak if we have shithead supporters like me who bury their heads in the sand and chear mediocrity like a Richmond supporter, a Western Bulldogs supporter or a St. Kilda supporter.

Did you listen in the first quarter, when the Commentators commented on what a fantastic month Slattery has had? No, you probably conveniently missed that.

efa

Hahaha you are a pisser!

Sorry BtG, I'd feel like Bob Harvey after accepting the '97 Brownlow if we make the finals.

Why?

We'd have beaten the reigning premiers twice (once by 44 points with the youngest team on record), the minor premiers once, ending a 19 game streak, the third best side in one of the all time greatest games, the 5th placed (probably) side twice, once by 69 points, and a team notoriously hard to beat in Sydney.

Yes, we've dropped some shockers, but if we win this week, we well and truly deserve it.

I said it earlier, we are not a good team. We are an inconsistent team who can beat good teams on their day. WCE beat the Western Bulldogs 2 weeks ago, North Melbourne beat St. Kilda today.

Amongst those good victories are losses to Richmond, North Melbourne, WCE and Fremantle. They are 4 of the bottom 5 teams.

Its disapointing we cant beat the sides lower on the ladder, it makes beating the higher ones less of a bonus. If you look at our form all year it's obvious we lack consistency, injuries or no injuries. Once we begin to become consistent then we can have a real crack.

I agreed with you, but a final this year would be invaluable for our long term development.

Once we get the maturity to treat every game equally and to start winning the Richmond, North, WC and Freo games, we'll be a very good side. I'd rather know that we can mix it with the best of the best than know we can beat bottom eight sides, but lose to top 8 sides.

Add in those four wins in a year or two when we get more consistent, and we're sitting 5th. That's ignoring the other wins which will come with a more consistent side.
