Realistic Trades:

Maybe I misread your post - but I very very much doubt Melbourne would be stupid enough to give us pick 2 for pick 14 and a Cox/BJ or Goldsack. That would be insanity. I'd say they would ask for a Reid/Brown/Cloke in addition to 14 to even be remotely close to the mark.
its dawes as well being mentioned

pick 14
dawes
cox/bj/cook/toove/sack etc

im not saying its likely but theres smoke so you finish the line

The other trade being touted is dawes+14 for davey, could mean davis goes to west coast?

Even with Dawes i'd be sceptical. Dawes and 14 for Davey is more realistic albeit a little odd. Davey really doesn't address a need and giving up our first rounder makes it more difficult to address our other needs in the ruck or KPP, and trading Dawes is getting rid of a player in an area we have a weakness in our list. Would be a very strange move.

I've skimmed through the posts in this thread, but haven't really read all of it so I thought that we should start a list of players that should be up for trade from our club.

This is mine:

Shannon Cox - He's played a couple of good games, but I just don't see him holding his spot in the 22.

Ryan Cook - Doesn't look like he will ever be a good player.

Danny Stanley - Looks like he will always be a star at VFL level but not AFL.

Anthony Corrie - Got him last year for nothing from Brisbane. Hasn't done anything when he has a chance to play, bar five minutes against North.

Sean Rusling - Trading him would probably be a bit harsh because I like Rus, but he is too injury prone. If he can get over his injuries he could be a good player, but I just don't see this happening. Could get a good player for him during trade week.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Love my list? Hate it? Give me your thoughts.

Reilly? Waters? Varcoe? Are we being serious here?

Birchall is an unaccountable flanker, McLean is a terrific inside mid when healthy. I know which I'd rather have.

and...even if I concede ALL those players (and I don't :)), it's still roughly a 30% strike-rate.

I'd definitely take Waters over Brock. I think Reilly is about on par with Brock, however Varcoe is slightly behind but will overtake him in time.

Birchall is the best of this lot. Easily.

Unaccountable or not, he is damaging with his disposal and his run and carry is superb.

Doesn't matter how healthy Brock is, he is not better than Birchall. That is a given.

Those blokes are players who will be delisted not traded, you need to trade somebody with some value or else you wont get anything.

We need a big bodied ruck......look at the saints, they picked up there two rucks King and Gardi as mature discards from other clubs, that is what we should do.....Charman from the Lions.....perhaps a bloke like Goldsack or something, ie a guy who is on the fringe of the 22 but we have plenty of cover for him with Harry O, Maxwell, Heater etc

You can't trade shit to get quality, and all you have listed is shit. No club would want any of that, Cox is fat, Rusling is constantly injured, and the rest are garbage footballers.

If we want quality we need to be prepared to give something good up. Like Fraser, Davis, or Wellingham. Although i reckon Wellingham lost a lot of value after the finals and wouldn't be worth much now anyway.

Maybe trade them for draft picks? Or two of them for one player? I don't really follow trade week that much, those are just players that I don't think we need at Collingwood.

With the lists being so tight the whole trade a bunch of strugglers for a good player just doesn't work.

What draft picks would we get for any of em?? Late 4th round or something, again not much point really.

You need to offer something decent to get something of value in return.

Maybe we should hold onto a few of them, then offload them to the Gold Coast, so we don't lose any of our crucial players.
That's a good point, give them our duds.:p

But I would prefer to get something for them instead of just delisting them. We wouldn't get much, but I would rather get something than nothing.

What have we got to lose?

I see your point, but i don't think those players have much value, unless they play a few more games next year. I think Cox and Rusling will stay, i would give Rusling one more year, especially if we are losing Dawes. I would also make Cox lose weight, and prove himself, give him 1 more year.

Keep Anthony Corrie!

1) Aaron Daveys cousin, if we want to lure Davey over, Corrie could be a key player...

2) When the new GC come around, we can just offload him there as an 'uncontracted player'

:)

We say this every year but I reckon we need another ruckman. Fraser should be played in the forward line IMO. Cameron Wood will be good in the ruck, but Leigh Brown isn't going to give him much support. Chris Bryan doesn't look like he will play many more games (he only played one this year) and Lachlan Keeffe might will take a while to develop, so I say we get an already developed ruckman to the club. The only thing is we will have to give a fair bit to get an already one.

So what ruckman do you guys think we should go after? Matthew Kruezer would be a good addition plus he used to support Collingwood, but we would have to be prepared to lose a good player for him. I highly doubt the Blues would let him go unless we give them a good player in return.

So hypothetically if you were trying to get Kruezer to Collingwood who would you trade?

If I was involved in recruiting for any AFL club, I would have ZERO interest in any of those players. Corrie and Stanley are not AFL quality, Cox is too unaccountable and Rusling is arguably the most injury prone player in history with a record of about 1 good game at AFL level.

Hopefully the rumours about us chasing Jolly are true. May well be as Sydney are the front runners for Seaby. I'd be happy with Seaby or Charman as well. But yes I hope we get a mature ruckman. But Fraser to the forward line won't work. He isn't quick enough, or a good enough contested mark to make a good permanent forward IMO. He hasn't shown much when he has played there in the past and kicks most of his goals after pushing forward from the midfield.

I think the only players they would consider are Nath Brown and Ben Reid. Possibly Jack Anthony.
The big unknown is Clokey.

To get Kruze over, I would offer them Josh Fraser and out first draft pick for Kruze and their second or third draft pick.
Or Cam + our first pick.
Or Nathan Brown + Brad Dick.
None of those would be good enough for them though, and I wouldn't offer any more. Even Nate + Dicky is pushing it.

Fair enough.

Anyone else have a list of players they would trade?

Just a thought. Leon and our first pick to West Coast for their first pick and Mark Seaby. We get a ruckman (even though i think he's useless)and that top pick we are apparently looking for and West Coast get the crumbing forward they are looking for and still have a top 15 draft pick. Just a thought so please don't abuse me :)

I wouldn't trade Leon, too valuable to our club. All-Australian as well.

I reckon we should have a crack at Ivan Maric. You don't hear about him much but he's only 23 and from what I've seen he has some good potential. He is also ranked third in the hitouts-to-advatage in the league.

Thoughts?
I'd love him, but the Crows would want a fair bit.

We'd be better off looking at Jon Griffen at the Crows imo. Has potential, but has fallen out of favour.

We should be looking at players who could be good for us, but are out of favour or at rock bottom prices, rather than players who have just played their best season and are at their highest in terms of value imo.

i like the general idea.. but you're gonna get abuse here for trading Leon for Seaby

i personally think this is a good year to trade leon...his trade value would be inflated given he made AA... but i think we could do with someone more consistent who is not an AA
