Sheppard's kicking is great from what I have seen. Would be wrapped if we get him.

It's gonna be exciting come Thursday, I really hope they don't do that backwards count. It's not like there is much hype surrounding who'll be the number one pick, and it's not like it matters all that much.

If Woosha wants to improve our disposal doesn't that support the Jetta argument?
With Hurn and Butler across half back we have two very good kicks and its improving the midfield passing into our forward 50 that will win us more games.............which is what Jetta does and does well. Just needs to get more posessions.

The Kim Hagdorn article later on also says :

"Worsfold is believed to have weighed up Jetta's dazzling skills and his teams need for goalscoring talent "

Sunday Times report by Kim Hagdorn?

I think at this stage the media has as little idea as us. Wasnt Hagdorn just saying a couple of days ago we might be taking Black at 7, and just yesterday the west said our first pick was a toss up between Lucas and Jetta.

Jetta, Insert KPP Here, Bartlett and I would be happy

We have zero need for HBF with Butler's revised role, Hurn, Smith, The Jones boy all capable of playing HBF.

Who's to say that if we did draft Sheppard we would use him as a half-back flanker?

There are better wingman in the draft than Sheppard, he is an excellent HBF and rebounding defender but for a wingman we could take Gysberts, Barlett and perhaps even Moore should be available at 22 and 23.

I cant see him doing a Palmer who at least had a mix of contested/ uncontested football.

It's still anybody's guess.
I am finding myself hopping on and jumping off selections every second day.
I have this nagging gut feeling we should go for a tall. It could be years before we get another chance at a quality tall.
Good midfielders can be picked up every year in the draft, crumbing forwards are still availble deep into most drafts and half backs a dime a dozen.
Tall forwards are as rare is rare is.

Yeh im thinking talia at 7- the hurley of 2009, can go forward and back and even agile enough to play midfield.

Then with 22/23- tapscott, barlett, bastinac, colyer, sheppard

Interesting about Sheppard, wouldn't mind him at pick 7. Very talented. It feels like awhile since there has been so much uncertain on who we will pick.

Watched highlights of Sheppard on AFL website , moves pretty well looks bit similar to Andrew Swallow / Liam Anthony from North Melbourne .

Oh well... glad I'm not making this decision West Coast recruiters probably wont know untill Draft day !

I keep changing my preferences!

First it was lucas, then jetta, then lucas, then jetta, now im warming to black!!!

Hoping for a result along the lines of this:

7) Jetta or Black
22) Tapscott or bartlett
23) B.A, hopefully tapcott or bartlett (whoever we didnt select with 22) or Colyer, Duncan, gysbergs...

Average draft pick in an average draft - I don't feel much excitement for this year.

Last year there were genuine 'best player in the team' type players in Watts/Hurley/Swift/Rich/Naitanui etc on offer & we had access to all but one of them. This year 6 will be gone before we get our first pick & even then I have strong doubts we will get a player that is little more than serviceable in the long term.

Haven't you ever. What was it at the start? Lucas/Fyfe/Colyer? Then Jetta came into the picture at 7..

Then you realized there were actually other players in the draft, and jumped all aboard the Bastinac/Taylor/Bartlett bandwagons.

It'd actually be interesting to see all of your "dream draft" posts (which just totally make my day) over the last few months to see how often you've changed them..

Agree with Sheppard but sadly...

The draft top ten will be a count down (or up WEWYLAI) 10 to 1.

It is because the network suggested this could be the best format, it will be reviewed. The draft will now be considered one of the major highlights of the football season and the AFL will promote it best they can.

I've got a strong feeling we'll take Sheppard (definitely not based on Hackdorn's article.. if anything that's a deterrent).

Just a gut feel. Just watching some vision of him and reading his bio, he simply screams West Coast. He's always been linked with us at 7, and Burgan's draft rating has him 7-20, so clearly we're keen on him. He's just as athletic as Jetta and Lucas, only with a more well-rounded game.

Guess we'll know soon enough :)

yeh i have believed we will pick sheppard for a while now... he just fits the build for west coast. he's quick, takes the game on and is versatile - can play HB, wing, mid, HF... but most importantly HE CAN KICK!!!!! he's an excellent kick just watch his vid on the AFL website, he hits his targets lace out :footy:!

the media (mainly Hackdorn) have been alluding to sheppard as pick 7 for a couple of weeks now saying that he has "won over WCE coach John Worsfold" and that we'll go for "the best player available at pick 7" and use the other picks to fill needs. we also could get Johnny Bennell in the rookie draft to fill that small, crumbing fwd role, so that may allow us to pick Lucas/Sheppard/Black at 7 instead of Jetta

personally i dont mind either of Sheppard/Lucas/Black/Rohan(if he slides)/Jetta at 7, i just hope if we pick Jetta he can put on some muscle that is required to play AFL football and that he remains committed.

as for 22/23 - i would like PACE - we lack in that department. Any of Colyer/Bartlett(really would like him)/Christensen would be nice.

whoa:eek:, i just realised how much i wrote, sorry bout that :)

Jettas a winger, whilst I'm sure he'd spend some time as a small forward, he'd be wasted if that was where he predominately played.

not having a go but why would you single out jetta with regards to commitment?

Probably because, until this time last year, he had absolutely no desire to play AFL. I don't personally have any more concerns about his commitment than any other draft nominee, but I can see why others might.

no offence taken. i said that because i heard that he decided against applying for the draft a couple of years back and i just hope if we choose him that he doesn't lose the commitment to play AFL.

true that, i know he's a winger but the eagles have alluded to choosing him to fulfil that role and i totally i agree that if we get him he'd be wasted if that is where he predominately played. Bennell was just an alternative if the eagles see Jetta as a solution to our small forward problems.

that too.

Also: pet peeve - people giving us Jetta in their mock drafts 'because we need a small forward'. There are plenty of reasons for us to pick him at 7, that's not one of them. He's a goal-kicking winger, not an opportunist small forward.

maybe a Rioli thing... he predominantly played up the ground at champs and kicked goals, but played FP for Hawthorn during premiership (rookie) season.

that too.

yeah i can see that, but i'd be pretty sure he's very keen to have a crack these days considering he wants to be at west coast, has played a full and quite consistant year with swans away from the majority of his family (in bunbury) etc. plus in that time he has really improved to to the point where he would believe he can match it at an afl level. hope he makes it wherever he ends up to be honest :thumbsu:
