Surprised there are no reports up. Then again, half the crowd were girls looking out for Monfries and people looking for a free snag.

Great day down at Windy Hill, plenty of supporters waiting for Jobe to be announced Captain and Welsh Vice. When they lined up in front of the crowd, I just realised how small Colyer was, not just in height, but build.

It’s hard to comment on all the players, because most of them looked good, so I’ll make a few points on the ones everyone talks about.

Bellchambers – Starting to find his feet as an AFL player. Skills were decent and should look to play a few games next year.

Carlisle – Looks completely out of it. Possibility that he is injured as he was having work down on him, but the whole AFL footballer thing might be a bit much for him at the moment. Spent more time looking at his GPS/watch than actually doing drills.

Gumbleton – It’s been said before, but if he can get on the field, we’ll have a real gem. Seems to be moving quite freely around the ground and skills look good. Like many have said, he needs some upper body muscle, but definitely looks bigger than last season.

Hille – Looks like his knee has responded well to surgery. Was running around, kicking smoothly and taking marks. We’ll get a good solid season out of him.

Hurley – The kid is awesome. The cast on him doesn’t limit him at all.

Jetta – Looks like he’s getting ready for a big season. Hard worker and looks like he’s found that zip again. Would definitely expect him to play 10+ games this season.

Laycock – The talent is there. Just needs to use it. Awareness was down today.

Myers – Still seems restricted in his kicking. Doesn’t kick through the ball, more stabs at it. Although, he doesn’t really waddle anymore. If he gets his groin right, he’ll be kicking absolute pearlers. His stabs were going a decent distance with good accuracy. When he gets it right he’ll be a good player. I’m sure of that.

Neagle – Huge. Maybe a bit too big but he doesn’t look slow.

Prismall – Starting to look pretty good. Has definitely fined down and looks in great shape. Should be a lock in the centre next year.

Stanton – Just keeps impressing me at training. Really does the hard yards and deserves being part of the leadership group. Although, the buzz cut looks shocking.

Watson – Will be a great captain. Like Hocking, has slimmed down and doesn’t look as slow. Skills and kicking were amazing compared to previous seasons. Big season coming up for him.

Williams – Very smooth mover and takes it easy at training. Either dislocated or broke a finger today, so we’ll see if it’s anything serious later.

As for the standout –

Hocking – Since slimming down, he looks a million. Looks like he’s found a bit of speed and skills looked great. Worked his arse off and he’ll be there along side Jobe in the inside midfielder role.

Injury:

Williams – Finger

Welsh/Laycock – Collision. (Nothing serious)

The new recruits seem to have settled in nicely (besides Carlisle). Long has been taken in by the aboriginal boys which is good to see.

Training Report- 21/12/09

Now this is my first training report, so I have no idea if this will be any good. I'll do my best to remember everything :)

Neagle looked pretty strong, dominated Hooker when they were doing 1-on-1 marking, pure muscle work, didn't see him run full speed, Groin must still be niggling him

Gumbleton looked pretty good 1-on-1, and he looks as if he's FINALLY injury free

Watson looked solid, as always. skills have improved massively since last time I saw him

Stanton was working hard, as always, and his kicking looks better since the final.

Monfries was great 1-on-1 as always, skills were very good

Mark Williams was on par with Dempsey 1-on-1, injured his finger during training I think, but came back

Dempsey still looked good, skills are sharp

Crameri took on Marigliani 1-on-1 marking, and held his own well, despite playing on the bigger body

Marigliani is a tank. Just send him to Campbell Brown next year

Bock is a stick, but IMO was alright 1-on-1

Ryder was very good 1-on-1, he outmuscled Bock and (surprisingly) Hille 1-on-1 a couple of times

Hille was great, only got outmuscled once or twice by Ryder, but dominated the rest of them

Laycock had a clash with Welsh during a skills session, and looked pretty good in 1-on-1.

Bellchambers was solid. Almost on par with Laycock

sorry, didn't see much of the rest, hope you liked it :thumbsu:

great pics btw PP

I got a bit carried away as I took over 50 photos. :D I will upload some more later.

I was very impressed with Crameri with the one-on-one and Bellchambers looks in prime condition. I walked past him on the ground and felt like a midget.

I haven't been to any other training sessions, so have no basis for comparison, but didn't look like they trained with great intensity as a whole, thought it was of a wind down in to Christmas break, but that's fair enough.

My thoughts/responses on some of the players I considered noteworthy:
New recruits: Unfortunately saw bugger all of Long/Melksham, and Carlisle I didn't see participate in any drills, just doing a lot of 200s. Wasn't sure if Kyle was there or not, didn't spot him.
Colyer I saw a fair bit of, really looked to be working hard and training at pace, stuffed a couple of kicks at full pace, but otherwise looked very sharp.
Marigliani could do nothing but remind me of Calthorpe all day. I hope this stops as soon as I see him play.

Gumby: Does look in very good nick. Not concerned at all about him bulking up, think it's more important for him staying injury free that he doesn't bulk up just yet, but plenty of core work. Let him get on the park and then bulk him up when he's had some games in to him.

Hocking: I will wonder why this man's been getting so much hype no more. He really looks great and does look to be setting himself for a big 2010. Hope so!

Prismall: Looks like an absolute machine. Was working very hard from what I saw of him, skills were pin point, looks extremely fit, would love to see a lit bit more work on the upper body however (I'll give it a bit more time though).

Stanton: Leads by example at training, really worked hard.

Ryder: Everything I saw of him just looked magical.

Still: Needs a lot of bulking up, as does T-Bell and Bock (goes without saying). Another development year for these boys in 2010.

Not much else to say, Winderlich and Zaka both looked pretty sharp too

Hey PP what did you think of David myers? From what I saw from where I was standing where you were pretty much he looks very good can't wait to see him in action I believe his kicking was great as well as his run. Also it look like from where I was Neagle was killing Hooker in those 1 on 1's and Williams that the older one look great in the 1 on 1' as well

As Skeet said Myers looks to be moving smoothly and kicking well, but still has a weird running action. Neagle was dominating the marking contests. He was taking them one handed. He is very good at positioning his body to gain the optimum marking position. Williams was impressive, outmarking Dempsey, although he looks to be carrying some excess weight.

Quick question.. I didn't see Quinn there today..

And what happend between Welsh and Laycock.. I must have missed it.. Did anyone video it?
Went back to Ireland yesterday

Head clash i think

So Neagle is realising to mark the ball he needs to play in front not come from 3m behind his opponent!
