Sonny Walters

I worry he might get lost in the mix. If that makes sense? It is in part why I went with him as Buddy this year. We seem to be doing well with young smalls. It is encouraging to hear he is doing well pre-season.

Checking on eligibility.. Wiki no less... needs to be under 21 for Jan 1 of that year, have played less than 10 games and not suspended for the year.

Born 07.01.91 which is fine, Freo website says played three senior games so yep looking good!!!

I didn't bother participating in the buddy draft because Son-Son is my new favourite player.

Forget the rising star, I'm tipping a Brownlow !!

Is Sonny still eligible for 010 rising star,if he is get your hard earned on him
Easy money;)

As the regular training reporter most here take your opinions pretty seriously Salim, so are you basing these thoughts on his training form? Do you think he is best 22 these days?

There was an article before the 08 draft where Emma Quayle talked about Nic Nat, Yarran & Walters and how they all grew up together playing footy and at some point she said that Walters may well turn out to the best of them.
He's not particularly tall or fast but he has brilliant skills, he goes hard and quite simply he can play the game. I actually don't think he's the kind of player that will win a rising star or a Brownlow but I do believe he will turn out a very good player for us. He looked in very good touch at training today and should press very strongly for Rd 1 selection IMO.

I'd like to see him get more games.

Hopefully we can use his skills to their full with him running through the middle.
i dont really like his game to be honest id rather a forward line like This

Ballantyne Pavlich Hinkley/Hill/Suban

Headland Johnson Mayne

:eek:What are you basing that on? 3 AFL games?
I'm wondering if you have seen any of his WAFL stuff with the black ducks?
I haven't, saw 1 game, but google and youtube are your friends.
Going to be a gun.

Perhaps not best 22 at the moment, but will get some opportunities throughout the year. NAB Cup will determine how ready he is, he reminds me a lot of a young Roger Hayden, if you recall back 5 years Roger was playing half forward and struggling, was banished to the back pocket on his last chance I think he played on Matera and completely dominated him. Sonny has all the attributes that Roger has and I see no reason why he would not be in the starting 22 in the near future.

Even though I have just joined his fan club. Hinkley will most likely be pressing for a position on the wing as with Hill and Suban in the Guts. I also note that you have left out the big Kepplarrrrrrrrrrrr from the FF position.

I much prefer the set up of

Mayne-Pavlich-Walters/McPhee

Ballantyne-Mr 26-Headland

A very nice mix of size and skills. Hinkley has speed which is great but better used on the wing when he breaks into the team. Skills are footy smarts are needed in the forward line. I think that we have a lovely mix with the forward line suggested.

Are they in the same league with regards to speed?

I'm not sold on him at AFL level yet. He can play but I just question whether he can put it together for 100 minutes, only time will tell.

My vision of him for 2010, is him being part of a Black Ducks premiership team, along with Hinkley, Hansen and the Palm Tree.

No way Ysaye. They are both very different players, Hayden is super quick and great over head and has very good skills. Sonny whilst not being slow isnt super quick, is only ok over head but has sublime skills.
Not a great comparison at all for mine

Personally I see Son-son taking over from Haselby as an inside mid. Haze was never quick but read the play well which is exactly what Walters has going for him, not to mention his skills.

We have to remember too, son-son was taken as a bottom aged player so in reality he will take a little longer to burst onto the scene.

Its players who have played 10 games or less.

You can get good odds on players from last year like Ziebell, Hurley, Nic Nat, Mitch Robinson

Hayden is not really that quick. He is not the great dodger we love because of his leg speed, it is because of his awareness and smarts.

From what I saw from AFL level I can't see the big fuss.. But I have not seen him play at WAFL level and I know his WAFL reviews have been outstanding.. So I will reserve my judgement until he has a few AFL games into him.. If he has that much potential I hope they get as much game time as they can into him in the pre-season competition to see if he can cut it in the big time..

The main problem with Walters at AFL level has been his lack of endurance. Salim seems to be pretty big on him this pre-season though and I was impressed with Walters in last years NAB so hopefully he'll start dominating some WAFL games this year along with Hinkley and Clancee at the Black Ducks.

He was a bottom aged draftee last year that probably wouldn't have got near a debut under normal circumstances. Give him a few years in the system he'll be a jet.

Ziebell would be very tempting at decent odds.

Ziebell I think will be good value, hopeful the bookies overlook him and he starts at about $25. At the moment most of my cricket and NAB cup bets have been multied with Franklin for the Coleman at $4.50.

So Ziebell at $25 into Franklin = $112.50. $20 on that is $2250

I'll also insure it with Trengrove who I think will start at about $3.50
