Does anyone have one or has anyone heard of what they are like. Am looking at getting one but was wondering how people rate them.

I bought a i-mac last year, i was a bit worried on moving from windows to apple but thought what the hell and when out and bought one. Best thing i did, i love it, so fast and a efficient.:thumbsu:

If you value looks over performance and have more money than sense, go ahead and buy the iMac. Everyone else should steer clear of Apple computers.
on the contrary i would say if you want looks AND performance then go for a mac.

granted they are more expensive, but you truly do get what you pay for.

What would you say is wrong with them TIRO is it the cost or the machine has problems.

There's nothing wrong with the reliability of Apple products. It's purely about the cost. Dollar for dollar, a PC will absolutely blow any Mac out of the water because the hardware is simply far better. You're paying a massive premium for the Apple logo on the back.

except i have far less trouble running my Macbook than either of the 3 windows laptops i own. (a Toshiba and 2 HPs)

it boots way faster, it's more reliable, the memory management seems better, i rarely have to shut it down like its windows counterparts, the OS is a doddle.

if your in a race to the bottom, the windows laptops are on the surface better value, but 3 yrs of trouble free computing have sold me on the mac. my personal laptops will continue to be macs irrespective of the cost given the trouble free computing i have experienced.

You are paying a premium but it is not only for the apple logo.

You have an operating system that is designed specifically to be used on that hardware, and vica versa.

this, not to mention that the general life of an apple product to a non-apple one is a lot better (if both are used in the appropriate manner).

I myself go for the cheapest tho as i dont have the $$$ and just need something that will do the job

and that is fair enough. not everyone is willing to pay the "Premium" due to their own circumstances and that is fine.

if you can afford it i would definitely recommend it - but if your situation does not allow then a PC will do the job..

I've had my macbook for a year now after 5 PC laptops and desktops over the years.

I will NEVER spend my own money on a PC ever again. It's bad enough having to use them at work.

The usual PC inferiority complex always comes out in this debate. Too expensive, Apple users are brainwashed Fan Boys who buy every product Apple releases.

I don't even own an ipod or iphone.

My macbook w/ 4 gig of ram cost about $1600. It compares with any PC cost wise and wipes the table with features and speed.

I use it for internet, working from home and music programs like Abelton at home an at gigs.

Has never let me down. Has never had a virus.

Rather then an IMac, I'd have a look at Macbook Pro. They have just had a price reduction I think and you can buy a monitor (not apple) and key board for bugger all.

Just give you better flexibilty.

MacBook Pro

Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.53 GHz
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM
250 GB HDD
8X DVD Drive
15" Widescreen LCD
Nvidia 9400M Graphics

$2300

Asus N61JQ-JX021X

Intel Quad Core i7 720Q @ 2.80 GHz
4 GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM
640 GB HDD
Bluray & DVD Combo Drive
16" Widescreen LCD
ATI HD5730 Graphics

$1869

The above two products aren't equal. Not even close. The Asus is so much better that they shouldn't even be in the same comparison. I could have picked something that was equal to the Mac for less than $1000, but I picked something that was cheaper AND far superior to make it even more hilarious. How the **** does this company have so many loyal fans? Only Telstra is in their league when it comes to ripping off customers.

hardware is not the only issue

which one comes with OSX?

A $40 operating system is the reason Apple charge double for their computers? That makes sense.

Honest question, Have you used a Mac for any extended period?

The ease of use, everything syncing, plug and play etc it's so intuitive that I feel like a bloody tech expert using a Mac.

On paper, no doubt your comparison seems convincing, but you're comparing an absolute hot off the press PC to a Mac that is three years old. It was miles ahead of it's time and I guarantee you that the next generation will wipe the floor with that PC. It's taken PC's that long.

Apple is the industry standard in Music and Design for a reason. Not for elitist reasons, Apple OS is the best platform in the world to be creative.

i tried to on my old sony vaio laptop and wasnt having much luck...

you have to download a hacked version and install it.. but there are a lot of driver compatibility issues..

Typical. PC users are so software illiterate. Good software (Adobe products, Final Cut Pro, OSX) cost upwards of $1000... Stick with your home-brand products by all means, but don't try to act like you know a mac inside out. - Truth is you've barely touched one.

in the end of the day most PC "fanboys" that make a point of trying to prove how bad a mac is have probably never actually used one, at least not with an open mind.

fact of the matter is as far as operating systems go, windows is pretty much as bad as it gets. That is what made me seek greener pastures.

Before using OSX i tried out a few distributions of linux - the only thing i didnt like about linux was that setting it up and getting it working takes a bit too much effort - but it was ridiculously customizable.

OSX pretty much works out of the box and doesnt require much tinkering, and less stuffing around than windows, less issues than windows, and the interface in general is less effort than using a windows box.

Because its easy to use for people who have no clue about computers?

Desktop computer for life, it works for what i use it for, If you just want something simple and boring fine, go the Mac

However, for someone like me and my uses for a computer, PC is always going to be my preferred computer.

The only reason i steer clear of macs is the fact you cannot really upgrade or expand the computer, You have to go buy a new one.

lol there is nothing boring about a mac.

well with the macbook pro, which is what i have, that is not really an issue as you cant upgrade most laptops anyway. Pretty sure you can still upgrade the ram and HDD in a macbook.

I Macs are great. My work bought 8 of them a while ago, they are much better than our PC's. But I use a Macbook, as I need a laptop. I lease mine through work so cost is not an issue, I could get a windows based anchor (which i stupidly did for about 9 years) or a Macbook for the same cost- $5/week.

Anyone who tries to diss the Macs is either too poor to own one and jealous, or has tried to use one briefly and couldn't adapt to the changes so gave up before they could realise the vast superiority of the mac machine.

I will never get another PC. I have had a grand total of 0 problems with my macbook in the last 2 years, compared to many serious issues with my last 3 comparibly priced laptops. Plus if you really need Microsoft stuff, you can get excel, powerpoint and word on the mac (but the native software is better when you know how to use it).
