Maybe, probably have Tim Rienets, Ian Herman, Adrian Bassett, Adam Chatfield thrown in for good measure.

No love for Steven Edgar?

My favourite has to be Dean Strauch

Somehow managed to debut in 1986 amongst the greats of Adrian Gleeson, Peter Motley, Stephen Kernahan, Mil Hanna, Jon Dorotich and Craig Bradley

No love for Steven Edgar?
Sure, blonde haired No 9 IIRC.

I remember thinking how we started all these new guys in the back pocket and wondered if he would follow Ratten's lead.

Oh and Brad Shine, Simon Verbeek, Mark Majerczak.

Spiro Kourkoumeilis deserves a mention for his name alone, although he hung around a tad longer.

You know, I actually rated David Kernahan at full back on a few occasions. My lasting memory though is of his first game in I think 1988 round 1, unfurled our premiership flag and beat the Hawks in the GF replay, with David kicking a goal and Sticks getting excited.

Hats off to The General

Captain Cook. The precursor to Lance Whitnall

jcook.jpg

"In a television interview in July 2006, Carlton's Coach of the Century, David Parkin, was asked who was the most difficult player he had encountered. Without hesitation, he replied; 'James Cook - on a coachability scale of one to a hundred, I'd give him a two.' Which pretty well sums up James' football career."

I really romanticised Warren Ralph's first game for us too. .

Kicked 100 goals all up in 84, Seniors and Magoos, kicked 8 in a Qualifying Final when Hawthorn belted us in '84.

Worked as a Teller for ANZ, most beautiful kick, i have ever seen.

Did his knee the same day as Bruce Doull, came back, played in the '86 Qualifying against Sydney, bone ass useless, got sacked, went to SA, and frigging won Tattslotto, 800 odd K.

Gonzo, you ANZ Star.
Luckiest ****er on earth.

ROFL you have hacks like Simon Beaumont, James Cook, Adam Bentick, and a back stabbing pillow biter like Aaron Hamill in your top 50 ...
Do you know the exact story why Hamill left Carlton (hint it wasn't just for money or the Elliott factor either)

What a deadset joke that 50 is

Cook was the precursor to Whitnall who was a star and willing to play CHB?

More like a follow on from Steven Oliver.

Oliver slaughtered Jakovich in one game and took a hanger.

I liked Cooky.

Took a massive mark in a night game against the Roos that was a better hanger than the non-mark of the year Gary Ablett took. Cook leapt clean over a North Melbourne player at CHB - his knees just grazed his shoulders- and one grabbed it with a finger tipper in slippery conditions.

And kicked the goal.

If Bret Thornton's name was James Cook, I probably would have put him in my top fifty.
Spiro Kourkoumeilis deserves a mention for his name alone, although he hung around a tad longer.
Legend. :thumbsu:

David Kernahan was a serviceable defender at times.

He was OK on Dunstall in one game and in 1988.

David probably would have won our 2004 B & F if he was on our list.

Can only remember the "decayed decade" and some of our 90's....

1. Anthony Koutoufides
2. Bryce Gibbs
3. Chris Judd
4. Brett Ratten
5. Stephen Silvagni
6. Craig Bradley
7. Jarred Waite

It is HIS 5O c_p I think you had better STFU

From our current list, I think Kreuzer will ultimately make a lot of people's top 10 list by the time his career finishes.

There is just some much to like about him on so many levels.

I've been watching Carlton from the early 90's - I don't think this is long enough to make a proper list without it being mostly obvious.

I will say the number 1 spot goes to Brad Pearce - so much love for him as a child.

I named James Cook as well TG, I loved him. Very entertaining player and the fact he was Tasmanian means I took an extra interest in him. C_P didn't have the balls to name his team because 49 of them were Geelong players.

As far as obscure players go some that stick in my mind are Darren Tarczon, Steve Da Rui, Mark Majerczak and of course as previously mentioned Steven Oliver, gee was he a hard bloke for the club to pin down.

You've started a monster here ODN. :D

O.K. my favourites

1. Bruce Doull
2. Alex Jeasulenko
3. John Nicholls
4. Stephen Silvagni
5. Greg Williams
6. Stephen Kernahan

The above 6 are of true iconic status. A photo alone of any of these guys pretty much represent Carlton the club, even though Diesel had spent time in others colours.

7. Matthew Kreuzer
8. Wayne Johnston
9. Peter Dean
10. Andrew McKay
11. Des English
12. Geoff Southby
13. Chris Judd
14. Rod Ashman
15. Ken Hunter
16. David McKay
17. The Duke
18. Michael Sexton
19. Fraser Brown
20. Brett Ratten

I'll get lambasted again for saying this, but Kouta and Bradley must have been the most overrated players we have had.
They were good for sure, but not the out and out champion status we have bestowed upon them.
I'll say that Kouta had many more poor games in his career than good ones.
It was just that the good ones were sometimes great.
Bradley may have been the best outside player in our team through his tenure, but I was happier for Ratten and Fraser Brown doing all the tough stuff and feeding the ball to him.
Yes, that was his role but once many of our key personnel dropped away so did his performances.

Fire away..

That may be the general opinion, so fair enough.

I got to a lot of games through the 90s and early 2000s and witnessed many games first hand by both these players.
Kouta always looked like he was going to deliver through the course of a match but quite often had little real impact.
For gods sake I wanted to see something special, but rarely truly did.
Both are definitely in my top 50, but I won't find room for the boys at the top end of the scale.
