The Melbourne Perspective:

Well, we all had a 9/11 experience. Completely oblivious to events on the other side of the world, I slept in. Late morning, I trudged out to the mailbox to get the newspaper, only to read the Age’s headline: War on America. And then the world changed, for me and for everyone.

Now Brisbane’s assault on the 2010 premiership is based on the two towers strategy: Fev and JB. If both stay on their feet, the Lions will be propelled deep into September. They also have a core-element left over from their glory years – Simon Black and the glorious Luke Power, for instance. Brennan has the X-factor. Merrett, like Tarrant, has undertaken a successful transformation: from forward-hack to formidable defender. Voss’ audacity as a player is mirrored in his approach to coaching – his horse-trades last year made that clear. Here is a man who is prepared to bet the house (good on him – the world belongs to the bold: Goethe). And by all reports one of the twin towers has temporarily toppled over and that evens up the odds no end, particularly if those loose-wires hanging out the back of Fev’s head start to spark and he has a shocker.

So what can we expect on Saturday night? Well the Demons of 2010 have rediscovered their ability to tackle and are doing so with relish. Junior is nearly in AA form. The newer lights continue to shine. And Colin Sylvia broadcast again last week how dangerous he can be if he gets his hands on the Sherrin enough times. Both sides are infused with confidence – the most valuable commodity in football. I am also expecting a reasonable crowd – the Dees don’t often get a chance to play on a Saturday night. While we have won the last two, it has been against weak opposition.

The Lions should win. The ledger says they have more talent overall. They aspire to Top 4; we aim for credibility. Fev, as we all know, can be a world-beater when the mood is upon him. Jamar will have to confront at least two doughty foes all on his own. Even so, George Michael keeps on crooning: you’ve gotta have faith, and who am I to refute a man who keeps on singing this song, even after he has been busted in the dunnies (or wherever)?

With 2008 in mind, I say the Dees by one point, maybe . . . . . .

All I'm hoping for is nobody gets injured and that we don't get absolutely molested by Brown and Fevola.

Also as I said in the other thread (which could have just been merged with this one :p) Jack Grimes makes that on-ball brigade look sexy and it's so awesome to have a team that's exactly the same as the previous week.

Bad call - Watts is our future and will become a legend in years to come :thumbsu:

I'm a watts fan boi, but his debut good or not has nothing to do with him being a future star.

Bailey never had hair.

J.Brown seems to think he will play, however there is still alot of indicators that he will miss. Did not train today, medicos will wait till sat nite to give him the all clear, 2 emg's flew down opposed to the usual 1. It's still very iffy.

The rain will make it tougher for Brown and Fevola and seeing as we've got a more mobile forward line the weather shouldn't be as big a factor for our forwards.

I'd need a Brisbane fan to back me up on this, but I'm pretty sure Brown's had some massive games in the wet. One was in Geelong, I think.

If anything the wet will force them to play more directly into their forward line, which worries me considering the form of Banfield and others who float through the forward line like Brennan and Sherman.

Vossy said he will take no chances with Brown, so I am leaning towards he wont play. They probably think they will thrash us without him anyway.

Youre right - Brown is a fantastic wet wheather player for a big bloke.

If its wet, you could argue that their senior body's in the midfield might get on top of our younger guys later in the game - but you could also argue that we have been great at stoppages, pressuring the ball carrier and tackling.

Im looking forward to this - we cant lose in a way.

We're in pretty good nick and getting some momentum. We have after all only beaten two winless sides. If we can be competitive and keep eradicating silly little mistakes, we will take another step forward. Brisbane are the form side of the competition. Everyone wants to win of course but a loss within 5 goals will be another move in the right direction. We have a big month coming up with, going on our current gameplay, some very, very winnable games.

I'd be very skeptical of Black playing after missing one week with a calf injury, more so than Brown. I reckon Brown will play but Black will be out.
Either way as long as the endeavour from the past 3 games is there the result will take care of itself. A really good test of where we are at

Brown is a great wet weather footballer but the fact still remains. The wet will always favour the smaller blokes.

I think a wet game will help Jamar massivly, playing and extra mid ILO of a second ruckman will really help in the 4th qtr. Also I'm struggling to find a match up for big Merit in our forward line. Who ever he goes to needs to exploit the mismatch.

If we get of to a good start it is a winable game.
