People were taling about him in another thread so i thought we could have one just for him
seems like warnock and jacobbs are ahead of him in the ruckmen stocks for Carlton as preferred 2nd ruckman
i was wondering what peoples thoughts are fo him and how much u would give up for him if u would chase him

I would give a 2nd round pick up for him if and maybe we get a 4th round pick with him aswell or give 3rd round and a player
your thoughts?

He would be an excellent pick up for us as he is not short of talent - but i am afraid to say i think he may already be signed to someone else, hence why he is not getting a game anymore;)

As a hint, he was recruited from Mt Gravatt up here in Queensland

Hardwick has said time and again that there will be no shortcuts taken when it comes to rebuilding the list so why is it that people continually look to other clubs failures/fringe players for the possible solution to our problems.

As a comparison here is Hampson vs Graham careers
Height: 201cm - 201cm
Weight: 100kg - 100kg
Games: 27 - 18
Drafted: 06 PP #17 - 05 Pick 5 Rookie Draft
Averages per game
Kicks: 2.5 - 2.7
Handballs: 4.7 - 5.9
Disposals: 7.2 - 8.7
Marks: 2.2 - 3.2
Tackles: 1.4 - 2.8
Hitouts: 13.9 - 13.6

We've already got a ruckman in Graham who averages more kicks, handballs, marks & tackles and around the same in hitouts as Hampson and yet most here reckon Graham is a spud who needs to be delisted at years end and now I read about people wanting to give up a second or third round pick and/or a player for a guy who statistically is worse that Graham. Can someone explain to me why?

Good post RT. I really hope Dimma sticks to the 'no shortcuts' policy. Stupid taking other clubs rejects with reasonable quality draft picks. Thomson, Hislop ring a bell? I have no problems with the Pies trading for Jolly as they are in the premiership window and knew what they were getting. Carlton on the other hand gave up a second and third round pick for Warnock who was unproven and is now in a battle for the spot as second string ruckman with Jacobs who was drafted as a rookie pick.

At the moment I would be going down the rookie/low draft pick route, even picking up a second tier comp ruckman, and then when time comes if needed then make a trade.

Yep this and the RT post are spot on:thumbsu:

Moving heaven and earth to get Hampson would be ridiculous.. Maybe a player trade if the Blues are dumb enough to want someone we'd be prepared to get rid of but a 2nd rounder I think should be out of the question..

Good post RT.

After looking at those stats, i really hope Graham can play himself back into some form. Surely at some point Dimma has to throw him into the seniors so he can have a look for himself.

And FWIW regarding Hampson going to the GC next year.. he is still contracted to Carlton for 2011 at this point.

hampson is a spud....................of the highest order & well done RT with the stats comparison with our own spud. this guy tries to mark like he's trying to catch butterflies !

if we are to trade in a ruckman.............do so BUT someone that is quality,
MITCH CLARKE
MCEVOY
LUENBERGER
GOLDSTEIN (spelling)

NOT BLOODY HAMPSON............................SPUD

I do not think he is a Spud he is a awesome athlete and move thrive as a number 1 ruckman IMO. The ruckman you have posted in Luenberger, Clarke ect will not be available to us unless we give pick 4, which I would not be prepared to give for McEvoy, maybe for CLarke or Luenberger. But they won't leave Brisbane. Hence Hampson is an obvious choice for a second round pick say pick 27. It's not a short cut as he is 23 and if you think Graham is as good as him you are delusional. Either that or have a crack at Jacobs. Sydney proved this year there is nothing wrong with giving talented players a second chance, Hislop was stupid decision, however Thompson was a top 10 pick and was worth the risk for a 3rd rounder.

When you aren't getting a game in front of Sam Jacobs you know you're in trouble whether he is GC bound or whether he is just not in form.

Has been an "athletic freak" and "training the house down" for the past 3 years but delivered little on the field.

If he was at Richmond we would already have him in the garbage disposal and supporters would be whinging about whats he still doing on our list.

I think the comparisons with Gus Graham are right on the money. :thumbsu:

Pretty hard to get a game when you've been injured all year. Should be back in the Ants this weekend and when fit, I think he's clearly our number 2 ruckman.

Him receiving a three year contract at the end of 08 shows just how much we rate him, given he'd done very little to that point.

An extraordinary athlete who's the fastest player at Carlton over 20 metres. You won't see anyone taking on Hampson and getting away for it like most other lumbering ruckmen in the league.

Needs to work on his marking but when fit, I reckon he'll be given a lot of time up forward. Spent time there in the preseason and showed a bit. If he can improve his marking and learn to time his leads, he'll be pretty damn hard to stop.

Needless to say, I have incredibly high hopes for Hammer, even if he does have a fair way to go. Would be loathe if the club were to trade him.

My mistake, I was unaware, yet still the best even a Carlton supporter can say is that old chestnut and Robert Walls favourite, "fastest at the club." The rest is hopefully he can still develop this and that and THEN he'll be pretty damn hard to stop.
Unfortunately those vital slight but required deficiencies scrub players need to become best 22 players rarely comes to fruition simply because they don't have "it."
And imho, Hampson doesn't have it. I don't wish him failure, I've just never seen him as anything more than an athletic freak without a footy brain, much like I see Daniel Jackson (though much less of a "freak" than Hampson but still a top athlete).

Carlton contracted player for 2011. Won't be going anywhere. End Thread.

Charman would fit your diabolical trading history perfectly.

Why you wouldn't continue to develop a young gun of your own in AG is beyond me..

AG and Vickery, look like a great future combination.

Is every Carlton supporter an arrogant knob? It seriously makes me laugh how pathetic they are.

On topic, I'd much rather we draft and develop a ruckman at year end instead of using a second round pick on a ruckman that hasn't really shown alot at AFL level.

Too big of a risk using an early pick on a speculative ruckman, especially in our current state.

Port offered pick 9 at the end of last season....That was turned down

Have you written off Vickery?

A top 10 pick 2 years ago would surely still be considered your future ruckman?
And IMO backup ruckman isn't a crucial position to be filled at Richmond right now.

Simmonds is guarding Vickery now.
Charman might be the right idea for 1 or 2 years.

Just to shield the younger ruckmen.
