So been thinking about this for a while and I think it deserves a thread.

Assuming a 100% fit squad how would you like our Rd. 1 Team to lineup??

Quite difficult as there are quite a few young guys fighting for the same spot, especially in the back line.

This is what I would like to see;

Hurn, Glass, Emac
Butler, Schofield, Waters
Rosa, Kerr, Sheppard
Strijk, Kennedy, Embley
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

NicNat, Priddis, Shuey

Int; Cox, Stevens, Scooter, A. Selwood

Notes;
- Prefer Nicnat starting in the middle to Cox. IMHO we win more centre clearances when NicNat takes the tap
- I was a Embley hater earlier in the season but I think he has finished off the season well enough to warrant a spot in 2011
- Butler, Smith and Stevenson fighting for the same spot, I think Butler provides more defensive pressure
- Kerr, Priddis, Shuey, Stevens, Scooter, A. Selwood, Ebert, Masten and Swift fighting for 6 mid spots, so 3 have to miss, Ebert being the closest one to being in.
- Neates and Houlihan will also be pushing for selection but as haven't played in 2010 they don't come into contention.
- Glass to replaced by another small defender when we play a team like Carlton with a small fwd line.

Have at it!!

Mez

I think one of Swift, Masten and Ebert will be ahead of Stevens.

I also hope we have a better option pop up for the forward pocket. I like Hams, but he doesn't hit the scoreboard enough to be a full time forward pocket IMO.

Love Sheppard on the wing, he would be great out there using his pace. Would like to see Smith in the team (despite his wayward 3rd quarter this week) - he gives so much run and has a huge kick that suits Subi. But you're right, Butler probably is in front of him.

Will be an interesting pre-season. A lot of youngsters are coming up to the stage where they should be able to take spots off the older blokes, if the coaches are willing to make the big calls.

Also interested to see what happens with Mitch Brown. He is too good not to be playing in the AFL, but our backline seems pretty settled with Emac and Schoey. Unless Glass retires soon, he will be heading back to Victoria (and we may regret it in the long run).

Priddis and Selwood do so much work, but we looked twice as fast without them this week (well, until we ran out of legs). Don't know how relevant they are in building the midfield towards premiership status.

Hard because we really don't know who we will recruit and boy do we need to recruit.

As it is now I will have a go.

Butler, Glass, A.Selwood
Hurn, Mckenzie, Waters
Rosa, Lecras, Sheppard
Ebert, Kennedy, Stevens
Strijk, Wilson, Embley

Cox, Kerr, Shuey

Int; Natanui, Priddis, Scooter, Hams

Cox is still miles ahead of Natanui, the kid has a long way to go still but will get there.

As we are building for the future then I would build around our best players. Lecras in the middle, kerr, Shephard, Shuey, all classy players with good skills.
Pridda can become a cameron Ling.

I like Wilson at FF and I think Embley could be dangerous ina FP.

The bench is hard as we simply have not got much. Masten just has not done anything for me to this point, Schofield just makes to many mistakes, Swift again has just not done enough to show he has what it takes.

With our current List I would probably maybe still have a Lynch in the 22 but maybe not the way forward, be tempted to play him CHB actually.

Anyway its all a guess and you can bet there will be many changes to the list.

This is what I want to happen:

Smith, Glass, Emac
Hurn, Schofield, Waters
Rosa, Kerr, Sheppard
Strijk, Kennedy, Embley
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

NicNat, Masten, Shuey

Int; Cox, Stevens, S Selwood, Ebert

Notable admissions: Priddis, A Selwood, Lynch, Swift, Brown, McKinley

Very hard to guess who will step up and who will continue to be a dud. We are still light on for quick outside mids with sublime disposal skills.

If Kerr still has trouble breaking tags after round 4 then play him out of the pocket. If Embley plays I like him forward - he can take a grab and kick a goal.

I like Butler's class but I'm always worried about his body holding up. Ebert can play but has poor disposal. We need to determine whether or not it is terminal.

Shuey looks the part. Quick, good disposal, and can hold the ball. A Selwood just has to go. No future for him. Priddis? My gut feeling is it's better to move on and look to youth. Give Ebert his spot. If Ebert can't fix his disposal then turn him over too.

Sam Butler, Darren Glass, Will Schofield
Shannon Hurn, Eric Mackenzie, Beau Waters
Brad Sheppard, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa
Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Embley
Mark Le Cras, Callum Wilson, Ashton Hams

Nic Naitanui, Luke Shuey, Daniel Kerr

Int - Dean Cox, S. Selwood, Ebert, Masten

No room for A. Selwood, needs to work on his kicking.

Waters, Glass, McKenzie
Hurn, Schofield, Butler
Rosa, Kerr, Sheppard
Ebert, Kennedy, Embley
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

NicNat, Priddis, Masten

Int: Cox, Shuey, S Selwood, Brown

Close, but no cigar: Stevens, A Selwood, Lynch, Swift, Smith, Houlihan, McKinley, Strjik

Never should be allowed back to subi: Nicoski, Hansen, Dalziell

* Embley should only be playing as a goal scoring forward with only eyes for goals, like we tried to do with nicoski. if he is is playing up the ground, would rather houlihan or swift.

* Would like to stand by mitch brown, but only as a defender.

* Priddis doesnt have the talent of a stevens or swift who are currently missing out, but his clearance work will shine when we develop to a point where he is purely a ball distributor and not a play maker.

* Would like to see McKinley play in the team regularly, he was so good in 2008, i wish we didnt have so much focus on his defensive pressure and just let him play. may or may not work better with a wilson, kennedy, hams & lecras forward line.

Schofield, Glass, Emac
Butler, Brown, Sheppard
Hurn, Kerr, Rosa
Strijk, Kennedy,Waters
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

NicNat, Masten, Shuey

Int; Cox, Scooter, Ebert, (A. Selwood, Embley)

Embley should only be used off the bench in his last year
I think Brown Will start at CHB, Scofield can play on small defenders
Priddis has filled a void but we need masten to take his place with Kerr and shuey.
Waters and strijk on the HF line - ouch

I given butler preference over smith and stevenson and moved hurn up the ground.

Swift not in due to this years performance but that could change with a good summer also first pick could be a chance

You are all dreaming if you think that Priddis and A Selwood wont be lining up rd 1 next season.

They are best 22 when fit. Not doubts about it.

Sheppard, Glass, Schofield
Hurn, McKenzie, Butler
Rosa, Priddis, Embley
Waters, Kennedy, Strijk
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

Cox, Kerr, Shuey

Int: Nicnat, S Selwood, Masten, Brown

Depth: Ebert, McKinley, Spangher, A Selwood, Stevens, Swift, Smith, Houlihan, Cockie

Out Of Time/Opportunity: Nicoski, Hansen, Lynch, Dalziell, (Mckinley?)

That's a good looking backline and a promising forward set-up.

Once we get all our players back to 100% fitness I will be very interested to see what they are actually made of, especially swift and masten. ebert, i don't think injury is his problem. just needs to use it better.

Note: A 2011 Andrew Embley shouldn't really be out there on a wing, starting on the bench is probably the spot for him, but until a youngster (Houlihan?) can own that position and push him to the bench i'll list him.

Then why the heck do you have Rosa/Waters/Priddis/Masten/Ebert in your team?

Selwood is a much better player than Rosa at least IMO.

The thing is when you look at our 'Best 22' - we definitely don't look like a side that would win the wooden spoon.

Experience and a solid team that's not disrupted by injuries makes your confidence works wonders.

BTW, agree with the OP. That's my team to the man.

Rosa and Masten are clearly better kicks.
Waters offers run from the back half and provides muscle.
Priddis is a better extractor.
Ebert has a shitload more skill even though disposal and pace is on par with Selwood's.

The only thing Selwood offers is willingness to dive under a bus every week. And he's allegedly a leader because he put a "no monkey business" clause in his contract.

Selwood is a much better player than Rosa at least IMO.
Nope. I've been highly critical of Rosa over recent years but Rosa offers us more. He's a classic wingman - carry ball from back 50 to fwd 50. His worth will improve as the team improves. Kicking has improved and he no longer squibs contests these days.

Selwood has little that we need.

Then why the heck do you have Rosa/Waters/Priddis/Masten/Ebert in your team?

Selwood is a much better player than Rosa at least IMO.

Because Adam Selwood is, in my opinion, the worst kick in our team for a variety of reasons. Not only are his skills awful, he also doesn't "lower his eyes" when running forward, which Ebert actually does :)thumbsu:), and bombs it over the head of our forwards straight to their immediate opponents. I've seen it so many times this year it's not even funny.

It's decision making as much as skill.

Adam doesn't make the team based on tagging because I feel that Scooter has overtaken him in this role, as he offers a lot more going the other way.

I like that you've put Schofield as a 3rd tall, not a CHB. Even Spangher is being used as a KPB before Schofield.
EMac is a KPP stopper, he isn't going to run and create, unlike Schofield, so why do many have Schofield assigned as a KPB. That just gives Schofield more responsibility. Having Schofield as burden free as possible means he can best utilize his run and carry from defense. The team won't get that from EMac, so put him on a KPF.
I don't think Schofield is as good one on one as EMac either.

B: Butler Glass Schofield
CHB: Waters MacKenzie Sheppard
C: Rosa Shuey Hurn
HF: Strijk Kennedy Ebert
FF: LeCras Wilson Hams
R: Naitanui Kerr Priddis

Time for ASelwood/AEmbley to go for younger players.

Smith,Hurn ,Sheppard used a running backs. I like the look of Neates reminds me of Ssidebottom in some ways.Schofield as a utility tall fwd or back.Natinui as 1st ruck Cox is just slowing his development

What I would really like to see is the coaching staff pick players and then stick with them, most importantly players like Sheppard, MacKenzie, Masten, Strijk, Hams, Wilson, Shuey, Ebert and Scooter.

Has Kerr been cloned? Shuey is by no means a wingman.

Assuming we don't trade in any good players and don't draft a ready made player eg Darling:

FB: Waters Glass Schofield
HB: Hurn Mackenzie Butler
C: Sheppard Priddis Stevenson
HF: Strijk Kennedy Shuey
FF: Hams Wilson LeCras

R: Cox Kerr Swift

I/C: Naitanui, A.Selwood, Ebert, S.Selwood

Others considered:

Brown as a backup third tall, Houlihan andSmith unlucky because our backline is pretty set, Rosa very unlucky but I wanted more speed and footskills, Neates and Stevens more WAFL time despite probably being capable.

Embley should start outside the best 22 but I'm no hater. Masten to start in the WAFL. McKinley and McGinnity need to add more to their game for mine.
