Surprised nobody has brought this up.

Bulldog won't be lured back to SA

Crows football operations manager Phil Harper said while former South Adelaide running machine Griffen is out of contract at the end of the season, his manager had told him that he wants to stay in Melbourne.

This echoes the thoughts of Bulldogs football operations manager James Fantasia, who told The Advertiser earlier this month that 24-year-old Griffen had no intention of seeking a return home.

"I can tell you we won't be trading Ryan to Adelaide," Fantasia said.

Bulldog won't be lured back to SA

Nothing to that article. Remember the Crows were also stating that they were confident of signing Bock. I will take Griffen's managers no comment on any discussion as more of a positive. No one at the Dogs or Griffen himself will say they they are going to part ways with finals around the corner.

I kinda want the Bulldogs to crash out in straight sets this year, might make the decision to come home a bit easier. That being said I think it is close to a dream that he would come, because it isn't that realistic.

Until he puts pen to paper, I take any of these rumours or articles with a grain of salt.

I got my hopes up when Bock declared he wanted to stay at Adelaide - but that didn't turn out too well.

More crap from the Tiser. Griffens Manager, Nigel Carmody, is refusing to comment, whilst Bullies Football Operations Manager, F*** Up Fantasia, is saying he wont return to SA.

So which Manager are we talking about in the article? It isnt readily obvious. I assume that "his manager had told him that he wants to stay in Melbourne" means Carmody, but this contradicts Carmody's above position.

When players put off negotiations until the end of the season, it doesn't automatically mean the player wants to leave. More often than not they will be hoping to boost their value with good performances in finals, particularly if their side is top 4 and (theoretically if not realistically) in premiership calculations.

I would imagine the Fantasia quotes have more to do with focusing the Bullies on finals and trying to avoid the destabilizing potential of these sorts of rumors.

What gives me some hope here is that Phil Harper has put this issue out in public - not something AFC has been big on in the past.

Yes, Fantasia has to reply that way; yes, the managers of Griffen and Knights will be rubbing their hands together and screaming "More"!

But Phil Harper didn't have to say anything - he chose to.

Because it forces a reaction from the Bulldogs and Griffen's management. Now Griffen's management have confirmed interest from another club, forcing the Bulldogs to start talking "turkey". If our offer turns out to be significantly more than what the Bulldogs can offer, expect to see the language begin to change from Griffen's camp, from "I want to stay" to "On refelection it's prudent to consider all options".

it's about him not returning to SA, so when people here say that "bock said he was going to be a one club player" doesn't mean anything. He will leave the dogs but go to another Vic club, just not return to Adelaide.

understand?

Is he really worth that much money?

I think he is a bit over-rated. I see him as a similar player to Vince, who is no superstar but a very good midfielder when in form.

So if Griffen decides he wants to go to Adelaide on a contract that is 'significantly more than the dogs can offer' does that mean all is forgiven with Bock? I know Griff is an SA boy but really the only thing that will lead to him leaving the Dogs is more cash.

I am confident he will stay, if he does go it is probably the best year for him to go (trade wise) as it will force the Crows to trade something decent otherwise he will be heading for the sunshine state.

majority of Crows fans understand Bock's reasons for leaving. Bock is near the end of his career and a huge pay rise awaited him at GC. obviously we were disappointed he chose the money, but it's an understandable situation. a lot of people would move interstate and leave their workplace for such benefits and a big pay rise. i personally don't think he'll leave the Dogs either, but us Crows fans can always hope.

To be honest I think most people appreciated that Bock was given a financial offer he couldn't refuse and again most people here understand why he left in those circumstances. It was disappointing but we understood his reasoning for going. Most people were just annoyed that we couldn't put him on the trade table and get a fair trade for him as opposed to the compensation the AFL have dished up.

Griffen can only come to us if the Bulldogs accept the compensation they'll get for him. Bock left us without knowing that we'd get fair compensation.

But to answer your question: no, all is not forgiven. I'd expect that if Griffen does end up with us, the Bulldogs fans will boo him at every opportunity :-)

not it would, that why I couldn't understand the Bock hate from anyone really.

He can't go to Gold Coast as Harbrow is already signed....oops he can't be signed until the end of season in this farce but the Bulldogs know he is gone. This makes Griffen only ably to get in a bidding war with the current AFL clubs and the Crows can trump the Bulldogs....if he wants to come to Adelaide.

Why don't we get Griffen in the PSD...and screw the crap out of the dogs :)

Because the GC suns have the first 10 picks in the PSD and then West Coast, Richmond, Essendon (this is where) and Brisbane could potentially select him before us.

Or in the ND, Luke Ball style...

Because in the ND 12 other clubs would jump in before us and do the same thing.

How come clubs didnt pick up Ball before collingwood at 28 then? Because his wages were going to be too high. We would do the same with Griffen.

Surely the Gold Coast would have no salary cap space left either to get him in the PSD...but that would be a mute point anyway because we could take him with pick 12 for example in the national draft!
