Trading should be used to fill a hole in best 22 ie small forward, pacy mid which we are/have, not for getting backup to play reserves. We definately need another key defender but it needs to be from draft and developed not bring in someone elses hack defender. Hopefully we use our 3rd round pick(s) (1 from Hill?) to recruit a couple of key defenders if there are any decent ones worth recruiting.

Can anyone help me with the ages of our list?

Apart from the type of players we are targeting with speed etc are we also filling a hole in our list in terms of the age group of players we are trading in?
 
For sure. Vespremi is 21 and Djekurra is 22.

The problem is we are also getting rid of players around that age.

If we land Walker or Sherman that'd help quite a bit.

Forget Walker unless Sherman deal goes south, Carlton want a first round pick for him which we don't have and can't trade for with the players we are willing to let go.

Thanks TCD, Walker's manager was just on Trade Week Radio and said that Port were in the front running and were more "flexible" in what they could offer Carlton. Sherman it is then :)

JUSTIN Sherman's determination to get to the Western Bulldogs may be thwarted by the fact the Brisbane Lions think they can get a better deal elsewhere.

The Bulldogs have offered the Lions the end-of-first-round selection they received as compensation for losing Jarrod Harbrow to Gold Coast - which is expected to be pick 28 or 29 should it be used in next month's NAB AFL Draft.

Sherman has said he wants to come to us. The pick we have offered is only a couple of spots worse than the Swans (21 to 29).

If the Lions keep Sherman they will have a mightily peeved player on their hands who will simply walk when his contract expires next year.

So, what do you want Lions? Do you want to get something or do you want to get nothing? I'm sure the Dogs are prepared to offer a bit more than the compo pick for Sherman, but I think the Lions need to be realistic and realise what happens when disgrunted players come out of contract.

Pick 29 and pick 73 for Sherman - happy Lions?
 
Can't fault the Lions for trying to bluff Sherman. Sydney are offering a deal way over his market value.

Brisbane are trying to get the best deal for themselves, can they really be faulted for that? Maybe the Lions are eyeing someone that could go around the pick 20 mark of the draft, they will have a better chance of getting him if they have pick 21 instead of 29.

I for one, am glad Brisbane are sticking to their guns.
