Gaming headsets are a must buy

especially in FPS games.

I've had a set of Turtle Beach X31 stereo headsets for around 6 months and couldn't imaging gaming without them....

X31_diagram_hr_thumb.jpg

Firstly you can game at any volume you want. The good lady wife does not hear my crap whilst she trying to watch some garbage such as Grey's Anatomy or insert other chick tv show. Also awesome for the getting away with late night sessions.

Now I don't care if your running dolby 5.1, 7.1, or THX home theater systems. I will guarantee that I will get superior sound reproduction with stereo headsets, period.

Not to mention that if you pop an XBL or PS3 chat mic over one ear you might as well throw your home theater down the toilet.

In game, MW2, if my opponent is not running ninja pro then within 25 odd meters I will be able to hear what surface they are walking on and through map knowledge be able to pinpoint their location and obviously hunt them down for an easy kill.

Ever watch a killcam and gone "How did he know I was there?"... That's me sound whoreing you loud ass clumsy footsteps. I can hear you plant claymores, reload, fire, sprint and die. Also hear burning tac inserts and OMA f-wits doing up their fly, not to mention children laughing on Favela and many other crazy background noises on every map...

This is getting a bit long so I'll just finish up by saying I've lost count of the number of times headset have saved my ass, probably 10 times every match. To be able to turn at the last second on an enemy on you side or back when your on short of a harrier, pavey or ac130 is absolutely priceless.

Anybody else use headsets??? How do you find them??? Should others buy a set???

FYI, with the aussie strong dollar, entry level X11 turtle beach headsets can be had for $75 to your door on eBay... Noice!

There are plenty out there but i would say these are more favoured by the casual console user, and in most peoples price range.

Definitely going to get myself some X41's onces they start selling them at JB. Just in time for Black Ops too.

Nice!

The x41's are simulated surround. ie one speaker per ear cup.

One of my XBL buddies just bought some Tritton AX Pro's from amazon.com for $180 US if memory serves. The AX Pro's are dolby 7.1 but with 4 speakers in each ear cup FTW!

I put a lot of research into headphones last year when I bought my ADH-AT700, browsing countless audiophile websites and forums. The one thing that rang true across the communities was that 1 speaker per cup is far superior to multiple speakers per cup. If I recall correctly, the speakers share resources which diminishes the overall sound quality. Aside from that, surround directly in your ear serves no purpose.

You've done the right thing but I don't want anyone making the same mistake as your friend (not that he'd care). Stereo > surround when it comes to headphones.

seriously are you paid by them to advertise cause that's what it sounds like

I wish!!! Nah just taken MW2 to another level for me so just spreading the good word. :thumbsu:

Haha!! I was actually drooling over the surround headsets but couldn't justify spending double the coin. Tightarse FTW!

s**t, i was looking for something exactly like this 2 months ago so i could game in the middle of the night without waking up the house, but came up dry. Heaps for PC but nothing for 360

Ended up getting a Philips wireless set that have awesome sound, but no chat function so i just have to go loud when playing online

after over a year of rarely playing games with my surround sound on anymore (due to annoying EVERYONE) and the future need of a gaming headset when i move into my double bay appartment next year i decided i'd take the plunge and buy one.

i didn't research for very long but realistically i didn't need to with the results i found.
price also wasn't a factor as i wanted something top end for my needs so that also made it a bit easier.

the item i ended up choosing was the Astro A40 Audio System which is actually the headset used in Major League Gaming and the World Cyber Games.
(i chose the regular in black....)

http://www.astrogaming.com/products/25/A40-Audio-Systems/

you can buy it as only the headset but with the audio system you get the amp which allows voice chat (with apparently a ridiculously amazing mic) and to enable dolby 5.1 surround.

only ordered it about 20 mins ago so won't be expecting them for at least a week i'd guess.

they're probably a bit expensive for what many people are willing to spend but considering the amount i game and the amount i'd use them i'd rather get the best item for my specific requirements.

here is an ign review of the astro a40 audio system from a lil while ago

They sure look awesomely swish. 250 bucks is expensive but I suppose it depends on your specific needs/use.

All this talk of headsets has got me jealous though. I wouldn't mind a pair. Tell us how you go with them. :thumbsu:

Noice! :thumbsu:

Thats $250 USD. If you'd have waited another week I reckon that would convert to $80AUD. ;)

After you get them it'll probably take a few days to get used to them. You'll actually be overwhelmed with the amount of ingame sounds that you had never heard before!

Looking forward to a review and helping to spread the good word. :thumbsu:

Are the X41's wireless? If so I'm sure they chew through batteries something bad. I just ordered a set of X11's over Ebay. Thankyou Gold Member and the Aussie dollar. Cheaper and probably quicker then waiting for JB to get in store.

My wireless X31's give me around 18-20 hours gaming from a pair of energizer? (the green ones...) rechargable AAAs. Just run two pairs of batteries. Does suck when your sound drops out mid game and you've either gotta stop for a minute or play in silence. Chat function does go weird for 10 minutes before the batteries are completely flat kinda like the reserve light for fuel in ya car...

haha yeh really looking forward to hearing the difference.
i know i could definitely tell back when using the surround sound where ppl were coming from etc... but this is quite a significant step up from that as well from everythin i've ever heard/read.

also thanks for bringing this thread up to sort of kick me into action since it's basically something i've needed for a while now since audio in all forms of entertainment always sucks me in and makes me enjoy the experience even more.

Hey guys, I'm interested to get your thoughts on whether I can get a good headset for under $50 - http://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-151914-Turtle-Beach-Ear-Force-XLC-Xbox-360

Or, whether it's definitely worth spending the extra to get something like this - http://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-151913-Turtle-Beach-Ear-Force-X11-Headphones-Xbox-360

Keeping in mind I don't have a lot of money to spend lately and would prefer the cheaper option, is the more expensive one that much better that I should fork out the extra $40? Or, are there any other models, perhaps on e-bay, that anyone could tell me about around the same price range?

Thanks
