The 195cm son of Magpies premiership big man Craig Starcevich has elected to play his first year out of secondary school back in his native state of Queensland and not in Western Australia where he played last season.

Story here -----> http://www.sports-news-first.com.au...him the no 27 and be done with it! Thoughts?

I loved Craig in his hey day. Would have won the 1990 Norm Smith without Terry D.

I was walking in Bourke St one day with my Collingwood umbrella up and Craig walked past and smiled and winked.

How good is his son anyway, other than the height?

Why would Craig want his son to play for Collingwood when his son has never lived in Victoria and we got rid of Craig for Bucks?

If he's anything like his dad I'd say no thanks. While Craig did occasionally have a good game (including the 1990 GF) i have to say I always thought he was soft. For a guy with his size and athleticism I can't help thinking he could have made much more of his career. Like I said, he did occasionally put in a blinder but too inconsistent for my liking. Now back OT... If he's any good I'd be glad to have him at Collingwood.

i remember when he was recruited. after a few games i thought to myself "he's from WA. he might be crap on these rain soaked grounds where his speed is nullified, but come september, when its dry & warm, he'll come into his own."

see 1990 finals.

i might add his name to that 'players of yesteryear' on the main board. with the covered ground & a manicured & well drained G, he'd make it.

Is there anything that indicates he may actually come to the Pies beyond his family line?

You mean other than the fact that we have priority selection over him? Craig played over 100 games for the Pies.

I would expect that he isn't really up to AFL list standard though. If he is 17/18 yo and he is leaving the WA system to go to Qld, it suggests that a footballing career isn't realistically in his sights.

We might be Hiding Him so we don't have to use a High Pick for Father and Son him;)

In his last game in the WAFL Colts he was 1 of the best

He had been expected to be a member of WA’s under-18 national championship squad, but is now expected to play with Queensland through the second division.

That is a Pretty High Rating to say he would play in the WA U-18 Champs Side. Guess you have to watch him in the 2nd Divison for QLD

I reckon if there is any talent shown at all in the Australian Championships, Mr Geoff Walsh will be going tap, tap, tap on Craig's door.

By signing up with Morningside, he'll be guaranteed a game in a competition that players get drafted out of all the time, as well as playing in the new "Champion's League" against some of the best state league sides in the country, which will probably get a fair bit of attention too.

I don't think this is him waving the white flag at all.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that assessment. From my memory Starcevich had pretty good talent levels but mostly tended not to perform in big games with one or two notable exceptions. Even if you look at his GF performance from 1990 you'll note that he was what was called in those days an "outside receiver". If it wasn't for the hard work of blokes like Brown, Shaw, Millane, Francis and Scotty Russell I doubt he'd have got near it. Still, you can't say he was a total spud when he was good enough to make that side ahead of others but I just wasn't a big fan.

Craig is still pissed at Collingwood and does not support the Collingwood Football club but his son is a gun and we need to try and get him, very hard. Craig played 120 games for the Pies so we can get him if his dad lets him come to us.

what makes you say his son is a gun? what do you know/have you seen to make this assessment?

He isn't pissed at collingood at all

He was at the 20 year dinner last year ffs

Sounds like he wants to go back to play with his mates....

It's an interesting idea that Collingwood might be hiding him but he would have to be pretty desperate to play for Collingwood...

I'm glad to see that posters here recognise Craig first half efforts in the grand final. I thought he was fantastic until that gutless daniher hit him. He seemed to be forgotten after the game when everyone was talking about Shaw and Millane...
