I haven't played SC for a few years due to living overseas and being out of touch. Back now and into it so looking for some tips on my mids this year. I've got:

Swan, Boyd, Bartel, Scully, Krakouer, Shuey and Swallow, Gaff, M Wallis on bench.

Thoughts?

I have krak in the fwd line....I like having mids in my forward line if I can help it or back.

Love him - but has his role in the team changed back to more of a "hard tag" option now that they have introduced Burgoyne as the more "free-running line-breaking player with sublime disposal skills" option ? They also seem to be gearing up to use Cam Bruce as a midfielder too (it's where he's been training and where he played in the intra-club match). Great player but too many question marks for me over what role he will be playing.

Thanks for that I have Sewell too as he looked pretty good value.

how about D.Prestia an MPP M/F and heard good things prior to the draft. is small but has quite a large build. would like to know if anyone thinks he is worth a punt and if he will get a go in the suns midfield or be pushed down forward?? at $148k maybe too expensive???

I think he's a good choice if you need the MPP - he is one of the most "AFL ready" of the rookies and should get a fair chance in the GC's young team (so no, I don't think he's too expensive). If you don't need the MPP then maybe Gaff and Swallow are even safer options (though a bit more expensive). At this stage unfortunately no-one can say where he will play, but he certainly knows how to find the ball ...

What is opinions on the following midfielders: Travis Boak, Cale Morton, Steele Sidebottom and Liam Anthony?
And, if you were to pick a midfielder from the 500-550k mark roughly, who would everyone pick? Currently i have Marc Murphy.

Maybe, Definitely not, could do worse, and good option (proven 100 point average player)

And spend the extra money and get Judd if you can. If not Pendles is a very good option

Montagna for me. Has the ability to rake in big scores.

Montagna - 6 x 140+ and 6 x 100 or less.
Hayes - 2 x 140+ and 10 times 100 or less,

in 2010.

Yeah I was leaning towards Montags. Just hope he doesn't decline like he did a bit last year..

People thought on N. Suban from Freo fairly cheap defender at 295k could move into the midfield?

Any thoughts on Sherman for Bulldogs...?? Pretty cheap. Too risky??

Both players will never be keepers. Both players are not cash cows. Both players are just taking up space like Jason Laycock was on the Essendon List

Um - both I think ... pretty cheap for what he CAN do (especially if he is used in his preferred role of Outside Midfielder, which is reasonably likely at the Bulldogs), but also a risk in that he has oscillated between approx 90 points per season and 65 points per alternate season ... if it helps at all, last year was his 65 points year, so this year should be his 90 points year again ... :p

Does anyone think that Selwood will suffer without Ablett?

I think he'll step-up but some people seem to disagree.

Could go either way, but I'd still love to have him in my side. At 22 and next captain, he can only get better..

Yes. Won't be starting with him - which will be the first time for me since he started playing football (I even had him in the typically difficult 2nd season I liked him so much). Upgrade target for mine.

Who ya starting in the premo mids Ninj?

LOL - I hate revealing my actual team (even though the Premiums shouldn't change too much over the preseason), but I'll say who I like and any risks they may have:

Dane Swan: Almost a lock - the only concern is the amount that he is interchanged (the most interchanged player in the AFL last year) which helps him immensely to break tags, and which will presumably not occur so much with the reduced interchange bench this year ... I do expect his figures to drop somewhat, but as you'll see there are question marks over all the other players too. :)

Chris Judd: Would be a lock were it not for the fact that he has had an interrupted preseason and is still suffering somewhat from the effects of a bruised heel and Quad injury.

Luke Hodge: Absolutely love him, but he can be tagged in the midfield more readily than the previous two players and his scores seem to suffer more as a result ... also unsure whether the Hawks having more premium midfielders (a fully-fit Burgoyne this year, Cam Bruce who has been playing midfield this preseason, Riolli being used in there for longer bursts) will help or hinder his scores - maybe too much uncertainty for me at this price.

Scott Pendlebury: Don't see much potential downside here. A great player in a great team, who is coming a bit closer to his prime age-wise. Will rarely cop the number 1 tag due to Dane Swan and when he does has a unique attribute in his height (190cm) which helps.

Dal Santo: Not particularly fast and he really struggles with a hard tag meaning his week to week scores are a bit variable ... having said that just look at the consistency of his year-to-year Supercoach averages and how high they are. Quality. If the photos I saw over the pre-season are any indication, he should be getting a LOT of hard balls this season. ;)

Montagna: Not as many years as Dal Santo as an Ultra Premium, but harder to tag, reasonably consistent and has a very high ceiling as far as scores go. Had a huge breakout season 2009 and his 2010 was good - are his scores on the way down ? I doubt it. I also doubt that he will finish the year averaging 125 again, but he should be solid for another 110 year.

Brendan Goddard: The best of all options this year, but I'd start him in the backline.

Chapman: Ping !! LOL - last year was the first time in ages I haven't picked him and the first time in ages he hasn't had hamstring problems. I'd wait to see if I put him in my team - if I do, don't select him yourself as he will have an injury plagued year. If I don't, jump on board and grab him as he will remain uninjured all year. I'd start him in the Fwd line though.

The only interuption Judd has had is that he had to make a future Carlton star with his missus. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with him has basically done everything they wanted him to do.:)
