Place to discuss all things uni....assignments, events, parties, exams etc

Currently in 2nd yr marketing/managment double @ Curtin...enjoying it but workload has increase massively compared to first year.

Also went to the beach bash on friday which wasnt that great and mates have told me it was the shittest one in ages

Graduated last year with a bachelor of communication majoring in journalism. Decided that sports journalism, and journalism in general, wasn't for me, so i'm now doing a grad dip. in secondary education.

Seems like i'm working a lot harder for this degree whereas most of my free time in my journalism courses was spent doing whatever the hell i wanted. Now i feel pressured to learn all of these abstract buzzwords and policies and strategies and a whole range of things that i'm yet to get my head around.

Went to UWA last year trying to do Commerce/Economics, but dropped out of that, found it boring, and doing the core units didn't really help with what direction I wanted to choose, I ended up failing a few units and just plainly didn't like the place at all.

Now at Curtin studying Secondary Education, finding my direction a whole lot clearer. I can see an end, even though I have only just started, which doing Commerce just didn't do for me. I also think UWA treat students like crap in comparison to Curtin, and have enjoyed being there, whereas UWA I felt like I didn't want to be there at all.

thread is handy cause i wanted to ask about this but couldn't be arsed with new thread.

mate text today cause he's just gone back to uni and today he got his $1158 education entry payment.

i remember i got this last year. is this a one-off payment at the start of your course or do you get this every year?? does anyone know. someone in his class reckons it's every year but i'm pretty i remember it being classed as a one-time payment or something like that...

the word entry seems to suggest it's only when you enter the education system (course)...

If you're on youth allowance you get it every semester.

what about ABSTUDY??

mate would be on that as he is some age as me (26) and youth allowance is only for <25's....

EDIT: meant AUSTUDY. looking at centrelink site for the last hour now.

k cheers. a bit more hopeful now. normally pay rates and what not are the same for youth allowance and austudy just eligibility is different.

interesting. an unexpected grand would never go astray.

first year of a bachelor of arts at Monash Uni, looking to transfer into arts/law

which requires a 70% (D) average, quite achievable yes?

It is, but you generally need 75+ to transfer. Think last year it was around 77ish

yeh that's what i was thinking, i'm not too concerned even if a HD average is needed, i'm prepared to work hard

i was planning to schedule a talk with the law faculty about what i would need etc.

I got in on 75. But the transfer places have been dramatically cut. Daresay an 80 average would be mandatory now (at a minimum). But yeah, best ask the faculty.

Many an arts student busts a gut for a year to get their marks, then bombs out in their first year of law because they can't keep it up anymore. If you feel like that's gonna be you, taking a semester off might not be a bad idea before you start law.

It's also not a bad idea to enrol in say 3 arts and 1 law unit in your first law year so you get a feel for it.

Good luck bro :thumbsu:

yeah, will keep that in mind, thanks man

also a quick question, how many of my arts units will count to the arts component? (since they are all first year sequences)

Hahaha I am still waiting for my grand. The stupid gits said I was eligible then didn't give it to me because I earned too much. Apparently the first fortnight I earn $1 I will get it. Doesn't matter, cutting my work hours down from 38 hours a week to 24 (or less). So over it...

Currently doing year 12. Want to become a food tech teacher and was wondering if I should go straight to uni or do a chef apprentiship for a couple of years to gather experience? What have other people done?

3rd year Chemical Engineering has definitely been a big step up in terms of the hardness of the content, but the workload has actually been quite light thus far, and I'm enjoying it while I can!

I'll have to start looking and applying for vacation work soon, which will be interesting.

At which Uni bud?

I'm doing this, but a double major with Broadcasting. 2nd year.

What made you change tactics after you graduated?

This.

I was gonna lie about how much I got paid for a week then add what I didn't report to the next period, but then I only got rostered one shift this week so I'll be getting it soon :)

FWIW, I'm a 2nd year student doing Acc/Finance at Melbourne. 1st assignment due this week, and I'm struggling for references.

I hate referencing so much!

surprised i haven't seen anyone on bigfooty at curtin with all the brahs that attend it
