Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I think Walker has a lot of room for improvement, I've noticed this year he's drifted in and out of games (as expected, and being a consecutive? sub probably didn't help early on). Once he's had a bit more experience as a permanent forward, (I want to see him bury his opponents into the ground with his superior work rate) and our forwards can become that bit more cohesive I can see his output increase a lot.

If he can take the next step, there's no doubting he could kick 60+ goals a year, so, so glad we managed to keep him last year :thumbsu:

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Always been a fan, never had a good chance due to shoulders. Would like to see him on the ball occasionally.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I think some blokes are bagging Walker at their peril. I also think opposition coaches who don't pay him enough respect will do so at their peril.

As the season progresses and things settle down a little I see Walker has having the ability to kick a few bags of goals, particularly against teams who lack enough quality defenders. With teams needing taller, stronger opponents on Waite, Henderson and the revolving door of ruckmen resting in the forward line they will quickly run out of backmen who can account for Walker both in the air and on the ground.
Walker will have a few afternoons out this season where some sides will simply not have enough stopping power to control all of our main forwards.

Walker is fast, can jump and catch the pill, is evasive and tricky, strong through the core and once he gets some confidence happening, from say, a few early grabs and a goal or so, he will become very hard to stop.

I say, sit back and enjoy the ride as it unfolds.

Gotta' love being right.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

he's certainly proving me wrong and I'm loving every minute of it
He had in him, I just thought he was a lazy footballer. He just turned 25, so his in his prime as a footballer the ages of 24-27.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

To think some on this board wanted to trade Walker for that crows spud Knights.
Sorry for gloating, but this black duck always had faith in our boy. Was at the game today - great to see him and the boys grind it out and nail it in the end.

His location tells it all Thy.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

He's really coming of age is 1AndrewWalker.

Needs to work on his goal kicking though...

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Being a Carlton supporter, I naturally didn't turn to bagging Walker like I would have if I was a Richmond or Essendon fan. However I admit in the off season I didn't think he could make it as a forward and thought if he goes to GWS, good on him. No huge loss and he'll get some good $$.

Well Andrew Walker has delivered me one massive serving of humble pie.
Keep them coming Tex, it tastes brilliant.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

At exactly the right time, who cares how long it took?

Sim - i would say without doubt I have been one of Walkers most ardent defenders on this site - my comment referred to the fact that FINALLY people were seeing the light, the AHEM... was simply referring to my unceasing defense of the guy in the face in light of so many un-enlightened knockers, didn't feel I needed to say any more on the issue than ahem ...finally.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

28 goals in 10 games up forward (thats including Sydney final and deducting a game for being subbed off and then the sub)...

If we're pencilling in Jeffy for AA contention then A.Walker needs to be jotted in there too. He's been every bit as good.

Somebody get the chequebook out and sign the man for another 3 years.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Apparently he works pretty hard on his goal kicking.
Was sensational yesterday and has already won us a game this year.
Too bad the rest of the side's goal kicking is shit house..

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Not a question of being right or wrong about AW...this is simply a great turnaround on the back of growth in personal maturity, improved training and development, improved injury management and resulting boost in confidence, and simply better coaching.

Great to see some of that natural talent being harnessed and turned in to concrete results.

That's the nature of being a forward, a lack of opportunity generally leading to some inconsistency throughout a game. We can't ask much more of Walks, he's been great.

I loved how he pushed up the ground and used his speed on the way back.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I happened to watch training the week before the game against Melbourne and during the goal kicking practice the ONLY person who was kicking at 80% or better (most were missing more than they kicked!) was Andrew Walker!! Looked supremely confident.

He is now an elite kick and a very important part of our structure.

And to think that he may now have been playing with either of the South Australian clubs !!!!

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Hutchy has implied on twitter that Walker would have been a Crow if Adelaide didn't trade for Tambling ..

Bad Call/idiotic call there by Jenny Craig :D

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I've never been happier to be proven so wrong.

Not only did Walker slap down my previous criticism of his Kicking, but also his performance under real pressure (I know it was only Port, but Walker kept us in the game and the momentum would've seriously shifted in Port's Favor if he'd missed any of those 6 goals).

I don't think I've seen him play a better game to date, he did everything right, including forward pressure & the 1 percenters, and delivered a VERY classy performance.

>EDIT: You could also tell he was switched on very early in the game. Really focused well last night.

Well done Walks! :thumbsu:

PS. Also glad to see Gerard Healy begrudgingly eating his words in the 2nd Half. LOL, he was nearly choking on them after such thinly veiled criticism in the first half. He is seriously biased and I never realised it until last night. He is seriously a tool.
