The kid attempts to tap the ball and run pass the tackler. You call that soft.

I'm not calling him soft. I'm not even comfortable with him being called a squib. From my limited playing days that was about as horrific an insult as it got.

I think he's playing to instructions (stay on your feet, outside, don't get drawn into ball-on-the-deck contests, break hard).

Maybe he doesn't mind some in-and-under stuff, but our coaching group, rightly, see that as a win to the opposition if he's scrapping for it on the ground with 3 blokes sitting on his ribs.

Not sure what you're getting at here, but the two occassions I have pointed to were bother one on one contests.

On both occassions Hill needed to make body contact, on both occassions he went a one arm tackle.

On both occassions the opposition player won possession, and on both occasssions the opposition scored.

It's just not good enough.

No argument on the specifics but I think people are claiming he is tending to generally play that way, I'm simply suggesting that maybe it's actually instruction.

(Probably then not helping when the rest of the team is playing poorly).

So dropping him, teaches how to fight through a tag?

Yes, it teaches him that he'll need to harden up and work harder to beat a tag and that if he continues to just go along like he is right now, it's not acceptable.

Anyway, we can't really afford to do this considering the amount of injuries we have.

No no far too lenient . I say if somebodies disposal drops below 60% or there is suspicion of shirking a contest - Corporal punishment!! The old cane - why at my school I got whipped with a length of wood a number of times for far less. Never did me any harm! Unless you call ,long term bitterness and a desire to exact my revenge at a time and in a manner of my choosing, harm.;)

Why drop Hill? How many years have we had soft players in our 21/22 now? Hell, we have had MJ squib it up the whole year with no repercussions. Why would we start now?

Was Hill soft last year? IMO NO
I remember him covering all sorts of ground getting back deep in defense an taking marks or atleast competing in the air.
Was especially good when the games were in the balance.

Is he soft this year i believe he has been soft at times.

So either he has listened to the coaches, taking it easy waiting till the cavalry arrives making sure he doesnt suffer the burnout like we did at end of last year.
Or he has followed the lead of some experienced guys who just cruise along an continue to get games based on what they can do.
Or most likely he is carrying an injury.

He is carrying an injury imo.
He should be dropped/rested but what outside midfielder/wingman is there to replace him?
Mitchie injured,Pitt to skinny,Bollenhagen injured.

If u want someone dropped atleast come up with viable alternatives otherwise your just trolling

Considering the teams performance I see absolutely no value in singling out a player who came to the club clearly struggling with confidence and at his confident best is one of the best players in the competition.

Joke of a thread.

Does anyone know how far Hill can kick on his right foot? When opposition players carrel him on his left side, he seems confused and not sure what to do. AFL quality players of today need to be able to kick 50m on both feet. I cant ever remember Hill kicking on his right.

I agree, delist. Btw, how far can Masten, Ebert and co kick?

Absolute rubbish that AFL players need to kick 50m off both feet. Barely any players use their non-dominant side unless absolutely forced to as a last resort. And I struggle to think of a single current player who has Aker-like skills on their non-preferred.

But Hill is going to have to work out how to free himself from the various shackles that seem to be applied too easily. Most of that battle might just be in getting himself fit and our full side on the park. I think his impact is only really felt when our full midfield is up and running. He could be the difference between 4th and a flag, but I don't think he isn't going to take a side from 12th to the finals.

I think most people are annoyed that a lot of our guys aren't doing that well at breaking tackles, sticking tackles or affecting the disposal when they do. This wasn't the focus of the preseason, a few guys do it very well, some don't. Hill was always a good tackler in his earlier days, seems to me that he may be injured like people say and simply trying to stay on the park.

The negative posters own this forum now, there is blood in the water and they are circling the coach and players. I agree with westy and eshed, it is hard to read these forums now, a bit like watching last weeks game. While I agree sometimes with some of the comments, I can sometimes be drawn into agreement early, only to see they threads deteriorate into player abuse.

The same people who are negative are often abusive or confronting of an opposing viewpoint, that is where the balance of this forum is lost.

"You're"

Do you think a 14 possession game at 57% efficiency is good enough for a top three draft pick midfielder?

Preseason troubles don't cut it as an excuse. Both Scully and Fyfe have struggled with injury this season, and still cut it up. That's without even getting into Hill avoiding contact.

A patronising fool at that.
My old man always gave me a saying if I was saying to much.
Know all, Know Fkuk all.

Sack everyone, now

Don't feed the trolls. (A sage piece of analysis P).

When there is a really negative thread (aside from the ones i start of course ;D ) 1) if you feel compelled to argue draft a response ... then don't post; or 2) start a new positive thread.

I dont believe in moderating posts unless they are blatantly abusive to another poster or contain something unlawful.

If you think someone is being a knob just ignore them and the thread will die. I am amazed my thread about Rhys Palmers sunnies which was meant in JEST was locked.

No Lach I don't believe in censorship of any kind but the negativity around here is almost beyond the point where I can cope.
That's my problem, not yours or BF's.
E Shed to ban rubbish like these Hill posts would not be censorship, they are blatant baits by the troll and freagle brigade .
They appeal to the for **ck sake kick it brigade ,the moronic amongst our supporters.
The site is being ruined by a minority of agenda based **nkers
Mods fix it up:mad:

I don't know what people are whinging about. There is no player abuse here.

Hill can either be a highly talented B grader who makes an impact every fifth game when he's allowed to get loose. Or he can become an A grader, who makes a huge impact on the competition.

If he doesn't make every contest his own, and doesn't win his own ball, which do people think is more likely?

I don't necessarily agree with him being dropped, but action is needed on worrying signs that have crept into his game. How he develops will almost be the key indicator to how Freo develops players as a club.
