I wrote this in the Jesse White thread but I would like to see some change in our structure.

I think Jesse is lost at the moment in the forward line. He is essentially playing a role of the fourth forward behind Reid, Goodes, and LRT. His confidence is shot to pieces as well because he is in and out of the side, doesn't seem to have a role, and is the fan favourite to abuse when things not going well (not saying that its not deserved, we all need to vent).

I wouldn't mind giving him a job defensively for a few weeks as a CHB to at least try and give the guy a role and find some confidence. This could then give Grundy an opportunity to play as a Scarlett type floating role, and we could move Kennelly out of the back line where his turnovers don't cost us goals. Given the way we are playing at the moment, I think we have nothing to lose by giving it a crack.

While I'm at it, put Goodes in the midfield and leave him there and have Moore and McGlynn at Reid and LRT's feet to crumb.

Disagree with the first half of your post, partly agree with the second half. To say White hasnt had a role, is incorrect. His role when playing forward is to take the occassional grab, contested or uncontested and kick a goal. Occasionally, if he cant take the mark, to hopefully tap the ball to a position where one of our crumbers can get it and kick a goal. His role when he doesnt have the ball is to chase and tackle, and when we have the ball he is to make a lead so he can then hopefully mark the ball when it is kicked to him. His role when playing in the ruck is to ruck, again mark the ball when it comes near. This isnt rocket science! The role of every player on the ground is to play well wherever you are played, to do your bit for the sake of the team

The second half of your post, the part I partly agree with is reasonable, except I would at least let him play a few games in the reserves down back, to hopefully get a feel for it. To expect him to move to the back line in the seniors and do well when he looks so lost in the forward line would be foolish. But yes, I am in favour of him being tried down back, but let him show some aptitude for it in the ressies first. No other (developing) player on our list expects to get a game week in week out when he isnt performing and White has had many more chances than every one of them.

But other players get called up to the seniors and can do well. To say "His confidence is shot to pieces as well because he is in and out of the side", well tbh, thats what happens. It didnt seem to bother Parker being bought into the side for a game, he played well and now hopefully will get more. Thats whats expected. For any player, (other than a proven performer like Goodes, ROK, Bolton, Kennedy, who can have an off game) to expect to get a game when they have put in a lame effort and done very little to deserve it is highly optimistic and unreasonable. They have to take a chance when they get it, and Jesse has had many chances, many more than most when you consider his performances.

Potential Matchups:

Richards vs Hall
Grundy vs Jones
Johnson vs Grant
Smith vs Giansiracusa
Mattner vs Dahlhaus
Kennelly vs Hooper

Mumford vs Hudson
Jack vs Griffen
Bolton vs Ward
Shaw vs Cooney
Kennedy vs Boyd
ROK vs Cross (Hanners played on Cross in the SF last year and did a great job so that could happen)
Goodes vs Picken (when in midfield, Picken greatly outsized but I reckon he'll get the job)
McVeigh vs Picken (when Goodes is forward)

Goodes vs Morris (when forward)
White vs Morris (when Goodes is in the middle)
Reid vs Williams
LRT vs Markovic
Hannebery/Bolton/Kennedy vs Gilbee
Parker vs Wood
McGlynn vs Higgins (defensive forward)
Bird vs Murphy (Bird got this job last time and did a great job when Murphy was back so I reckon this could happen again, although Bird might need to play on Griffen or Cooney)

So, uh, is John Longmire calling up members or something?

I got a call on my phone, but couldn't take it because I was in a meeting. Checked my voice mail and it's a pre-recorded message from Longmire. Something about membership recognition day. But it said "Sorry I missed you" and "Hopefully next time this conversation won't be so one sided."

What would have happened if I actually answered that call? Haha.

It's the same message.

As much as I may be disappointed with White's form I think he needs to play this week. We need the option of dropping LRt in front of Hall if Richards/Grundy struggle to go with him one on one. This would leave Mumford totally isolated in the ruck. Team dynamics suggests White gets one more week.

MUST Shine Jesse.

This looks pretty right but Morris has tended to play on smaller players this year, and Wood plays better on talls, will prob play on Goodes when forward but when not he is more likely to go to most dangerous small and Wood to White.

Also unfortunately for us Murphy is not playing.

Easton Wood is from my area of Victoria, he's going to be a gun for you guys. Great to see players being recruited from the Hampden League and doing so well. :thumbsu:

I hadn't heard that. Brilliant.

Bird will go to Griffen then I imagine allowing Jack to play more offensively.

Is Spangher still injured? If not, he could do that job. Spangher at least showed something when he played. Maybe its because of Whites size and athleticism that it stand out more, but to see his insipid performances makes me almost cringe as a Swans supporter. Team dynamics or not, we should not be playing players who arent putting in, makes us look bad and gives a bad example to our younger players. I also think it demoralises the whole team.

White should be dropped! If Spangher, TDL and Johnston are all injured then we should play Seaby I think he has a lot more to offer then White and it’s time for Mummy to stand up in the forward line.

Maybe Shaw for Griffen. Similar player, but obviously Griffen is a far superior one. Both at their best when running/breaking lines. Bird to Boyd maybe.

Perhaps. Can't let Cooney run free though. McVeigh might get the job on him I guess but he's only done that job once. Or maybe Jack will go to Cooney.

Well then why does he say "Hopefully the next time this conversation won't be so one sided" as if I'm ever going to get a chance to have a one-on-one talk with John Longmire?

He should just call us 10+ year members.

Don't worry about the other plebs.

;)
You have no idea how much I would pay for McVeigh to call Bedford
