In the EPL, when a side is down, their supporters chant to lift them. Does not seem to happen here. I tried singing Colllingwooooood today when we were down but had no companions. Why is that?

Imagine we are down and the song starts, as a player wouldnt you go nuts hearing it? Wouldnt you lift?

Personally hate the way people are trying to overuse it. Save it for finals, when we're playing like we're invincible (Aka preliminary 2010).
Chanting it to an undermanned Essendon team doesn't do the chant justice.

Watched the Black and White Show from last week, that's exactly what Eddie asked the supporters for...the chant when they were down and needed a lift.

Your right Didak Wine and it would lift the boys if they were struggling, good on you for trying to kick it off.

Human nature makes it easier when your winning i guess.

That would definitely lift the team if they're down. Good on you for trying to start it off. Sucky that nobody else joined in, though.

Rubbish, absloute rubbish.

The chant is what seperates us from the other supporters that dont know how to support with anywhere near as much passion as us.
Bleed black and white and the chant makes them hate even more.
Its great.
Ill keep chanting no matter who we play.

Absolutely love the chant. In soccer, mainly EPL, the fans are more fanatical than us and the chants directly shows that. In the AFL, this chant shows how much we bleed for the black and white. Since I haven't been able to go to a game this year I can't wait to do the chant next season. Just hope it doesn't die out.

be nice if we had a song we sang before the first siren, liverpool style "youll never walk alone". What would that song be do you reckon? Imagine the g going off to "You've got a friend" by james taylor before the bounce. "You can call out my name ....`

If we had a horn to blow (excuse the pun) so people would hear it and set the chant off when we were losing, might be a way to go.

The problem with collingwooooodd is we associate it with when we are winning, you cant help feeling like we are gloating when we sing it. hard to gloat when you're down. Felt like people we're saying "we're down bud, dont be arrogant". My feeling was more about letting the team know we were there no matter what.

I'm fairly sure that Eddie said to use the chant ''Collingwood clap clap clap" if we are losing.

And with the song, I think if we went down that path the AFL or media would try to criticise it and nip it in the bud. Would show we are going down the "soccer culture" which can be extremely violent and dangerous.

Nip it in the bud? sorry that would never happen.
If you dont want to chant then thats fine. I Bleed passion and ill keep chanting and keep stirring the opposition supporters because i hate them.
Just like they hate us.
Never forget that.

I wouldn't nip it in the bud, I'm saying that the media and the public will want to by correlating it to the soccer culture.

You should stop reading news limited.

Look a lot of people have the wrong idea about the so-called 'soccer culture'

It's more cultural clashes as many of the teams represent cultures that have long standing - I'm talking centuries here in some cases - grievances with other teams cultures.

Nothing wrong with the game or the culture of soccer but a lot wrong with administration not aggressively screening out the red necked element.

Been there. It's annoying and embarassing.

Absolute nonsense. Poms sing in every conceivable situation-it's a cultural trait which has never been a part of the Aussie culture. You could argue that many of them spend more time singing and chanting than watching the game unfold.
Our cheering and chanting is more organic and related to the action as it happens. Much of their noise is manufactured. This doesn't mean it's not enjoyable to hear but it has nothing to do with the passion or lack of in the fans.

I think our collingwoood chant is good the way it is, it's just part of the atmosphere at the footy. Drowning out the opposition, and annoying the hell out of them too. The chant doesn't seem to bother our players, and it shouldn't either, we're just singing our praises. The collingwood **clap clap clap/ bang bang bang (with your flag)** is more after a goal. I love the filthy looks we get from the opposition supporters when we do the collingwoooood one, it's absolute gold!

:p

Personally I love the Collingwood chant and I'd love to get it going when we're behind, but I can't see it being as good unfortunately.

Man I would love to be at a Collingwood game with that sort of emotion:thumbsu:

It can't be used against lower teams like Essendon who are 2 men down, it is only powerful in instances like the Prelim when we completely dominate one of our challengers.

Ok, here's my go:

Once a Jolly ruckman

Tapped down to-a-Swan

Up jumped his team-mate,

Pen-dle-bry*,

And we sang as he kicked

A-nother goal in black and white

We are Col-lingwood F C!

Obviously set to Waltzing Matilda.

Thoughts?

I think it's ****ing awesome, if I'm allowed to say that about my own writing :)

That last line doesn't fit the rest of the song structure very well, and is a bit of a jarring self-referencing lyric which wouldn't lend itself to being sung at a game. Other than that, good work Syphoncom.

Shit, that wasn't meant to be in it haha =/

Sorry I'll edit that out. I meant the song is sung, to the tune of, Waltzing Matilda :D

Agreed. We need to find a few more chants like other codes.
