So looks like cos our idiot club won't play our best small defender that he wants out. I'm pretty sure it's not one of those "heading home" things, so I think all clubs are a look in for him.

He might not have the accolades to back up his talent, but he's a fantastic player, hard nut, decent skills, great tackler, can take an opponent completely out of the game. Was the reason we beat the Crows back in round 5 or however long ago it was, when he absolutely pantsed Stiffy Johncock. Last year he was on his way to our best & fairest before injury took him down.

So what would he be worth to your club?

Would love him at the Crows. Put him back at HB and with Stiffy watch em tear up opposition attacks.

Given he has not played much this year, someone is gonna get a bargain. He is just entering his prime years.

If he just wants a change in club, not state I wonder if a straight swap for Maric could land him......

Given Primus' direction towards youth I imagine we would be looking for either a player 22 or under or more likely, a second rounder.

Would be a very handy player for Geelong.

We have a lot of medium defenders but don't have a lock down small defender.

The sort of coin he is on could be the problem though.

If Ottens plays on next year and we have a ruck squeeze, maybe Trent West is someone you guys would look at.

Be quite interested, we've needed a good small defender for a while.

I wonder how high his current contract is? For sure we've got more money in the salary cap next year with retirements but I don't know that we'd want to spend a massive amount there.

Hard to work out his value since he hasn't been played this year, maybe Geelong's first rounder (mid 20's) for Surjan + Port's third (40's somewhere I think) is probably what I'd look at, unless there's any of our fringe players that they are interested in.

That's too heavily favoured for West Coast. A quality player and a priority pick. Port Adelaide wouldn't do that.

Perhaps Surjan + Port's second rounder for Ebert + West Coast's second rounder. That seems more reasonable.

Are you really an Eagles supporter????

Surjan isn't getting a game for a team currently sitting below GC on the ladder, whilst Ebert has been a big reason for the Eagles rise up the ladder this year!

Where exactly does Surjan fit for the Eagles? Not in defence, Ash Smith, Waters, Hurn and Butler are all ahead of him talent wise, peharps as as a defensive forward?

Surjan is better defensively than everyone we have on our list bar Glass. When did it become problematic to follow the entire AFL and make subjective assessments on players without team bias? Hurn is a half back flanker whose effectiveness is predicated by ball in hand, not by checking an opponent. Waters is a medium tall defender. Butler is a medium defender with the ability to play in the midfield. He's become some defender when he's not injured. Ash Smith is a young and tall defender better served running forwards with the football in hand. If you'd bothered to notice, the strength of the West Coast defensive unit has come from the cohesiveness of the unit itself and momentary individual brilliance.

That trade was to heavily scaled to West Coast. No reasonable General Manager would even contemplate offering it.

Ebert hasn't been a big reason for our rise, he's come into the side and improved since his sub roles. I'm quite happy to keep Ebert because his observed improvement has been very good in the second half of 2011. Why shouldn't I comment on the proposition someone else has made? I wasn't the person who suggested it.

if he cant get a game at port then hows he gonna get a game at a better team when port are that bad
Tyson Goldsack isn't getting a game at Collingwood. Does that mean he's an average player? I happen to think Goldsack is more than decent.

I try to look at things then apply my rationale to that dooley. It's perfectly fine for you to disagree with my opinion.

It's just an opinion of a football fan after all.

but thats a whole different kettle of fish im sure if we would be down the bottom of the ladder he would be getting alot of games
It's not different at all. Try frequenting boards and reading about others teams and what's going on in the AFL. It opens up a whole new perspective, one which I rather enjoy.

Take for instance the GWS. I enjoy jumping on their board and reading their opinions and contributing to their forum. I've taken a recent interest in Port Adelaide to see how they handle the AFL-SANFL debt servicing situation.

There's a lot going on in the AFL and other clubs if you take the time to have a read.
