Unless he wants to go he is worth much more to Collingwood and their structure than he would be to anyone else.

He is a good but not brilliant player but he is super important to Collingwoods game plan.

IF he is adamant he wants to go though Collingwood will only get what he is worth to other clubs, not what he is worth to them.

Looks a lot better than he really is playing in that side. Still though, key position forwards aren't that common so he would still be fairly valuable to potential suitors. I think a pick around 10-15 would be fair.

Dawes is an average player playing in the best team in the league.

Kicked 24 goals for the year and ranked 80th in the league for overall goals contributed for the season. Top put that into perspective he's ranked 8th for goals contributed at his own club let alone in the league.

Yes he missed some games and yes he's only 23 but lets face the facts he's a journeyman and highly likely to always be one. He worth a late first rounder in this years draft or an early to mid second rounder in a normal draft.

This is what I was saying. 24 goals for a KPF is not good. He played 16 games, so if you factor in a couple of bags of goals, as you would expect from your FF, and usually around a goal a game, he has underperformed, OR performed to his ability, which is not that great, imo.
To put it into perspective, Ryan Griffen, who is almost exclusively a midfielder, kicked as many goals as Dawes did this year.

Structurally he is very important to Collingwood, but in terms of importance for kicking goals, as a FF should, he isn't that great.

IF he was to leave, would he leave Melbourne though? or for that matter come to Adelaide?
What is Buckley's plans for him next year?
Doubt he would leave Collingwood as him and T. Cloke form the best forward line in the competition.
Can they afford to keep him, with Swan and Thomas resigning this year?

Clubs should go very hard at Dawes. He isn't a star, but solid bigs don't grow on trees. Collingwood can't throw money around atm and other clubs need to take advantage of that.

I strongly doubt that we would trade him for a draft pick. So if he wanted to go to a new club we should be after a similar replacement to him who can slot into Daweses position.

I would request Watts if dealing with Melbourne and Kreuzer if dealing with Carlton.

Need a ready made player as a replacement.
LOL

If MFC could get Dawes interested then I'd offer Collingwood Jamar - Jolly is finished and Wood is not ready. MFC can go with Gawn and Martin with Spencer recovering from injury and retain Robert Campbell as insurance.
No way......Martin is a quality second ruck and Gawn is not ready yet. Spencer is a spud and will be delisted and campbell is a 29year old injury prone ruckman

I'd consider Guntson & the Crows 1st Pick for Dawes & Collingwood's first pick.

Collingwood's salary cap issue is overblown.

Swan, who is our highest paid player @ $750 K, either goes on the vets list at the end of this year or next year, there goes $375 K in the salary cap.

Ball's contract goes to the min in 2012.
Leon Davis will either retire this year or next, he would be on $350 K min.

Didak, who is on $400 K plus also goes on the vets list.

There is close to $1 Million free in the salary cap b/c of retirements & players going on to the vets list.

Do Collingwood player legal bills get included in the cap if the club pays them? If so you're in some serious trouble.

Why isn't he after cash?

GWS would make him a horrendous offer.

But in the absence of him being after the dollars he'd be crazy to move. Premiership window open for a while yet.
Why would GWS chase Dawes, when penndles signed a 1 year contract, how many players in the last 10 yrs have signed 1yr contract, if GWS offer him 1.2 mill a season penndles is GONE.

IIRC Joel Selwood signed one in 2010. They are extremely common for players over the age of 30 with the likes of Crawford, Fletcher, Johnson and Mcleod all signing at least 2 of them in the latter stages of their careers.

Dawes himself may have signed one at some stage (most likely at the end of 08) due to the fact that he's coming out of contract in an odd year after being drafted in an even year and AFAIK having never signed a 3 year deal.

Dawes is an average player in a good side. Dont rate him as highly as what Collingwood supporters do (obviously). Late 1st rounder at best.

Well he is way better the Q Lynch

Serious? I'll have Dawes over that spud Watts any day of the week... dont even have to think about it !!!!!

Then you are an idiot. Watts will end up a lot better than Dawes.

Recall T Cloke re-signed and didn't get the $$ he asked for and is expecting a decent pay increase at the end of 2012.

Pendlebury signed a 1 year deal so he could get more $$ post 2012 after the enterprise bargaining agreement with the AFL has been sorted.

Thomas just re-signed on very good money.

I suppose the likes of Jolly, Didak and Ball are getting older.

Also out of contract next year is Shaw and I would guess Fasolo plus others.

Pies will find it tough to pay Dawes what he is worth in the open market but then agaion look how many players have turned down Gold Coast and GWS offers. Loyalty does still exist in the AFL.:thumbsu:

It is difficult to know how he would go as the no 1 forward. Tbh, I think he can handle it.
Injuries haven't helped this year also. Missed 7-8 games this year, yeh?
