Seriously, anytime you guys mention "spike", I think this...

Call me boring, but I'm happy to just go with "Sando" for a nickname

For those who missed the press conference, fiveaa.com.au have it online here: http://www.fiveaa.com.au/audio_brenton-sanderson-press-conference_102960

Just the audio of course. Not that it would do me much good if I had missed it, since the fiveaa website crashes my browser every time I try to listen to any of their podcasts  Honestly, how hard is it to stream an MP3?

Im sure Brenton Sanderson is going to be all over the media for the next few days, some confirmed interviews are SEN's The Run Home sometime between 3:30 and 6.30 and Fiveaa after 5.

Glad to have this appointment out of the way finally. Was little surprised with the appointment, although it makes sense at the end of the day. Personally, whilst quite keen on Burns, I had a couple of reservations about him, in that 3 years as an assistant probably wasn't quite enough and he is yet to properly taste success at the highest level, be it as a player or coach.

Sanderson however has experienced two premierships and the let down of losing a premiership. He has also just as Chris Scott's right hand man in his first year as coach, which should hold him in really good stead in terms of what "to do" and what "not to do" as a first time coach.

Personally, I'm happy to give the club the benefit of the doubt regarding whether or not he was our first choice, especially considering how little of an idea the media have had so far regarding this appointment. Besides, it really matters not now, Sanderson is our coach and we should all get behind him either way.

I understand people choose to be positive and that is great for them but can we have some reality here? Sanderson was probably not the first choice. He is untested as a head coach and there will be reasons why he was turned down for the Geelong job for a relative unknown.

I wish people would stop acting as if the second coming was happening. He spoke well at a press conference...whoop de do.

He still has inherited a shit sandwich from Craig and needs fans to have realistic expectations.

Did Sando take your first girlfriend behind the changerooms at Unley Oval back in the day?

As was pretty much everyone bar Rodeny Eade.

and there will be reasons why he was turned down for the Geelong job for a relative unknown.
For the same reason the majority of people didn't want Bickely. The club pretty much didn't want to promote from within.

Anyway, to each their own. I've got no problems with people quetioning the selection of a head coach as we will all have our own favourites.

If everyone fell in line and said everything we did was all good then it'd be a pretty boring place.

According to Cornes Neeld was never offered the job and was not the preferred candidate. Rowe reckons Sando was the preferred candidate very easily.

Funny how they're so knowledgeable now that the announcement has been made

Rowey did say that he had got some info from relevant people down the club.

Neeld did ring them and say that he had been offered the Melbourne job, but Adelaide told him they couldn't give him any assurances as they were sticking with their planned process. As a result he accepted the Melbourne job.

Sando had presented outstandingly, whereas Burns, who did NOT withdraw his application had not, and was clearly not ready to be a senior coach.

Apparently Leigh Matthews played a large role in these final presentations and was all over each candidate asking all the pertinent questions.

Looks like the usage of Leigh Matthews was a critical factor in our process, so well done to the club for using a hard-nosed multi-premiership coach to assist in coming up with the right man for the job. :thumbsu:

.

(1) prove it

(2) after 11 years, Geelong were looking at going in a new direction, hence why Chris Scott got the job. Pardon the pun, but they were only whiskers apart from getting the job.

(3) if you're going to act like a troll, take it bay 13 were you will fit in.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten that Triggy had coached Sando at Sturt in 1991.... damn job for the boys after all ;)

1) I don't have to prove my point anymore than you need to prove yours, this is a discussion forum and when things are unclear then questioning events is perfectly acceptable. This forum wouldn't exist otherwise.

2) Prove it...oh sorry. You are probably right but if someone is good enough that usually doesn't matter.

3) I have lurked here a long time and only started posting recently. Been called a troll twice now. The first time for saying we would beat the Power by 5 goals (whcih we did). I guess if someone doesn't kiss the clubs arse then they are a troll in your eyes.

I wont blindly follow Sanderson. He needs to prove himself to me and you should be the same. Some people are too quick to accept the mediocrity the club is capable of serving up. We haven't won a 16/17 team comp for 13 years and we are unlikely to win for at least another 3, with our resources that IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
