I am quite happy with CFC trade week results, however will be very disappointed if we let Caff slip to the draft & finish up playing against us in 2012. Keep Caff on our list - I'll sign an imaginary petition.

We managed to strike some sort of fear into the club when Dids was in trouble a few years ago.

Not a bad idea to tell them what we think regarding this situation.

Will leave a very bad taste in my mouth if Caff is not there next season and beyond.

But in the end, Caff is in an unfortunate situation where to stay at the club, he has to accept a lot less then GWS or the Suns would pay him.

Basically the balls in his court, the club has made an offer, and it's the best offer they could make under the circumstances.

I hope he stays, but at the same time I'm realistic.

I'm not saying he's chasing the money, he's just the unlucky one out of contract coming off a poor injury year and we are out of cap.

But having said that he now faces the decision, another flag or off to a cellar dweller for the next few years.

It's rather unfair that he has been put in this position.

He needs to earn and make a living too FFS!

It's up to Caff now. He either decides to stick around on reduced terms in the hope he can get back into a team pushing for a premiership or he walks to the draft and could end up anywhere. If he chooses the latter he should choose the PSD as at least then he can dictate the terms of his contract to try and make it easier to get to his team of choice.

All this unfair talk is a load of crap. At the end of the day when the money is tight the middle tier players are going to feel the pinch. You are going to sign your stars and you are always going to have kids coming through. It's just the reality of the business. Unfortunately for Caff he fits the middle tier bill and has just come out of contract at the wrong time. Coming off a poor year due to not being able to get his body right also doesn't help him. Yes the Tooves situation was a bit messy last week but he has played a possible 70 of the last 75 games and a mid sized shut down defender is prob harder to find than a high HF who provides good tackling pressure. I have no problems with what the club has done here.

Zero chance a real petition would have any impact let alone an imaginary one but I will add my voice to those who prefer we kept him than lose him for nothing. In the end it comes down to whether he can accept the offer. All I really want to see is that the offer is fair. If he still doesn't accept it then that's how it goes and we move on with someone else having received a lifeline.

He was already one of our lower end players on the payscale and he's been asked to take a further cut. Hopefully jMac walks, Dick retires and we find him some cash to at least match his previous contract.

If i were his manager i'd bite the bullet and accept the reduced terms but only on a one year deal and back Caff to make it impossible for them to shaft him this time next year.

The ball is in his court, the money or the flag, the money or the flag.

Do u remember he wasnt even in the grand final team despite being fit for many weeks prior... So those arnt the options at all his place in the team is fringe at best.

With fasolo Elliot its gonna be really hard for him to get in

The options really are money and oppotunity or an uphill battle to get himself into the 22 at collingwood.

I dont like our odds

They changed the rules a few years ago so you can put a salary on your head going into the national draft (i assume if you've been on an AFL list), that's what luke ball did

No preseason and injured throughout the year, it's like Didak never hitting form. You can't rate Macaffer as a player going off 2011.

Yes I know. However this is a Collingwood forum, hence an opportunity for supporters to air their views on the situation with Caff. It's also a message to Caff, that supporters are keen for him to stay with Collingwood & be part of the future success, if he stays & plays well, then the reward will come.
Salary cap is going to remain an issue going forward (even with several retirements end 2012). We face the challange to re-sign Cloke, Pendles & others by end 2012 (& ball has to go onto a market related contract end 2012...on minimum next year). Geelong have done it, hopefully we can too.

I'm not sure about McCather. His manager will shop Macatheter around and see what sort of $$ other clubs wil offer up, should they snare MaCCafther in the draft.

If McCaffter resigns with us, I'd say MaCCaferty didn't get a nibble.

I like Ben Macartheter but Fasolo will take his spot.

Good luck Catheter.

Macaffer is a best 21 player. I rate him higher than Beams, Fasolo, Dick, etc and that's before even considering the importance of his role to the team applying defensive pressure in the forward 50. There is no way anyone could honestly rate him outside our best 25. He needs to be signed.

Not sure about better than Beams but agree with the rest. Hes a hard nut and not one of the fancy boys who side step the hard contests (of which we have too many atm). His defensive pressure had alot to do with our forward press last year. We should keep him, surely others deserve the boot before Macaffer.

With Toovey now signing, Simon Buckley should be the one under pressure FFS.
