Without having read the article in the Australian, there's a good chance (based on where he is likely to be drafted) that we were one of the clubs that EK's father has tried to dissuade from selecting.

On SEN yesterday,Tim Watson named North..saying that it was Brad Scott question on why Kavanagh had left St Kevins (The Scott twins old School) for Essendon Grammar.. The old man wasn't happy with the line of questioning..

IIRC, didn't something go down when Choco interviewed Rockliff? I thought I read or heard something to that effect in the year after he was drafted.
I think so. Choco was renowned for it.

Dunno if it was Rocky or someone else but Choco apparently asked "Would you jump out that window if I asked you to?" The player replied "no - that would be stupid". Choco didn't like the answer.

Lol - I would personally love that if i were a recruiter... standing up for themselves, and applying reason and logic... good leadership characteristics :p

Hadn't heard that before. That sounds like an incredibly stupid way to assess draftees.

Who would want to coach a team of slaves?

Maybe that's a question to see how genuinely they were answering the questions. They say yes then it is obvious they are giving the answer that they think Choco wants to hear instead of the truth.

concensus coming out of all the mock drafts so far is that we will draft a ruckman with picks 30 and/or 47

pick 30 bolger & brown

pick 47 downie/tynan/brown

of course we'll have to wait & see but it sure is fun speculating.

the mocks also have us picking tomlinson or sumner pick 8
kersten or mcinnes with pick 12

I think it'll depend a lot on who's left. I'm not tipping Bolger to still be there at 30, and 30 is too much for Ben Brown IMO. As it is though, there are a few decent KPP prospects who may still be around at 30 - Dobosz, Boseley, Schade spring to mind...

Though we may snag one late (or early if there are bargains (eg. Longer)), I'd predict we'll wait until the rookie draft. We have a free upgrade from the rookie list immediately with Staker being LTI, and generally, rucks take a couple of years to see who's even possible to develop into genuine players. We'll take Newell in the Rookie Draft, and then I'd predict we'd take 2 rucks with our remaining rookie spots. Develop them, keep them on the rookie list for a few years, and then upgrade whoever is playable.

What does everyone think about michael coad from gold coast, i thought he played well before his injury and would be handy to have down back, similar build to staker and would bring experience to the back line

Too old for me. Need to start developing long term key defensive options and Coad would just be an obstacle to that.

I remember someone saying in all of sumner's highlights it was Greene feeding the ball to him, if we pick them up at 8 and 12 I'd be estatic ( more so with Greene, I'd actually prefer Sam Frost rather than sumner)

This has raised an interesting point. Has any team in the past with a number of high draft picks in the one draft such as us, drafted several key players from the same team? And perhaps one deciding factor may have been the fact that they played and linked up very well on the field and were effective weapons together? I.e Greene & Sumner as Banana Boots pointed out?

I am curious as to if anyone has done it before, and if those players ended up having a quicker developmental curve at AFL level, and also proved quite effective, having a familiar teammate side-by-side with them on the field at AFL level?

Hey guys, do you think you'll pass on Longer if he's available at 8?

That's a contentious question.

The poll in this thread indicates a close to 50/50 split on whether "we" (individually) would take him. As for the club...who knows?

Surely sumner and green cant be taken on a slim highlights package from the champs, they did play for different tac teams didnt they?

Yeah, Sumner for Sandringham and Greene for Oakleigh. Although they do seem to possess a bit of synergy. I think there's a lot more going for them then just their highlights from the champs. I personally think we need a tall from one of our early picks but if they recruiters don't rate any of those remaining I would be happy with two great mid prospects. And they both fill a need. We still lack pacy outsiders and need a future Black replacement.

Geez, the more I think about it Toby Greene seems to be a nice transition plan for Simon Black. His in an under ability and control in traffic has definitely grown on me.
