Alright punters you have seen all the prospects and watched or read about them so give us the kids you would love to see Hine and co draft on Thursday night.

Will it be best available?

Will it be tall Fwds?

Did Emma get our list needs right?

I do think we need some Back-Up at the KPF Postion and Her 3 Names would be very Nice Picks.

  • Tom Curran
  • Julian Dobosz
  • Fletcher Roberts
I agree we don't need anymore Small Players

I think this quote hits the nail on the head, the rest is a bit "meh, already knew that" to me.

They're in a good position to simply see who falls through, and pick the best players they can (but maybe not a small forward).

We'll draft "best available" at our first 2 picks, and obviously Witts with our third pick, which means we do not have to draft tall.

She also points out that we get James Stewart next year, so there's not a real need to draft tall, especially given the current depth on our list.

Hartley adds to our defensive depth, and Witts adds to our forward/ruck depth, so I just can't see us focusing on one area in the draft, especially with 2 late picks.

Plus, every year Hine and his crew pick a player that no one would have suggested we select.

I still think key forward is an area we could look at but not necessarily in the national draft. Our need at key forward is for someone who can come in and play immediately. A key forward at pick 50 in a weak draft is against the odds to be able to do that. I don't think Witts is a legitimate option for this role as he is too unassured with his hands for the AFL at this stage.

I think looking at a mature state leaguer in the rookie draft would be a good idea. I think this is important both as insurance at senior level and to help out our young VFL side for a few years while guys like Hartley and Stewart develop.

Due to our draft position the last several seasons I think going best available at 50 and 65 is wise instead of taking a wild stab at a particular position in a weak draft. We need to get value out of these picks. We need to get AFL footballers from these picks or else we risk creating a generational gap. Fortunately we have done pretty well considering our draft position over the last few years.

I think one of the issues with the taller KPFs is there are good reasons why a lot of them might slip. If you look at the ones above;

Curran - what is the foot like. These hot spots can lead to real troubles so you would want to be sure. I think the other issue for Tom is his mobility. To me it looks fine but if you look at some testing results from '10 it could be better.

Dobosz - probably my favourite and had him pretty high pre testing but he measured shorter than I thought he might and his results reflect a bloke has hasnt done a pre-season so he is coming from a way back. But lots of talent.

Roberts - Hard one for me. Probably played more ruck than fwd but wont be recruited as a ruck. Really showed v little as a fwd through the year on a consistent basis and the detractor would argue if it wasnt for that one qtr he wouldnt be talked up quite so much. Did test well though and is genuine KP height.

exactly Matty and am looking fwd to who it is? Maybe though this year we are ignoring the obvious. If we go best available surely a 20yo who hasnt really ever been involved in a proper programme yet absolutely dominated state league level would be worth a late pick (Sundberg) wouldnt he?

i tend to agree Quicky but when I look around for state league fwds with mature bodies the only ones I reckon are around are;

Beau Wilkes

Josh Smith

Callum Sinclair

Setanta OHailpin

Havent got notes with me but they are the ones off the top of the head who come to mind.

I'd be happy with Wilkes but he is a gap filler at best - the rest have real ? marks for me. Cant think of any who have been delisted that would be worthy?

I just can't see us using either of our "live" picks in the national draft on anything other then 18-19 yo's.

So Sundberg's only chance of coming to (or you could say staying) at Collingwood would be the rookie draft IMO, and I think if he's still available then, GWS or the Suns would take him early.

In the Rookie Draft I would not Mind Josh Smith(Big Bodied) or Callum Sinclair(I liked the Look of since he was on our VFL List)

Well any player at Pick 50 would have Question Marks over them.

Dobosz sounds the best how you explained it.

Though the Big Final Series and GF by Roberts might of Caught Hine's and Pie Eyes

What about the Jarrad Dalton Rumor?

You would think we'd take the risk that he would fall to the rookie draft, I can't see any other team (once again other then the Suns or Giants) going after him, so I'd doubt we'd use a ND draft pick on him.

I just hope, and also think we need to go young in the ND, with our recruiting of recent years, we really haven't injected as much youth as some clubs, so we need to draft young in the ND IMO.

I was thinking Galea or Eddy. Although Eddy obviously wouldn't give the VFL side a boost.

Wilkes is a player I always liked but i've only seen him play as a defender so wouldn't have the fuzziest what he is like as a forward.

I blame the Final 2 Years of Malthouse Contract for that as they wanted to win a Flag or 2 for Him.

Which they did:D

Yep from our depth chart a ready made key forward is what we are looking for, wonder if there are any ready made forwards who won a Coleman that have nominated for the draft....

Otherwise I'd be looking to the state leagues for one of the picks to find a KPF who we can call upon if Cloke/Dawes goes down

As much as it has been shouted down in here, and as much as the club has talked it down it really isn't that outrageous an idea. From a purely footballing perspective Fev is the best mature key forward available and he would be obtainable for a pittance. At worst from a playing perspective he would improve our VFL side. I wouldn't have the guts to make the call, it is the affect on the team dynamic that would need to be assessed, but it's hardly outrageous.

If Manson is available at pick 50, do we take a punt?

I agree with either of Emma's 3 picks. We need a key position forward

I think we should

Forget about the negative influence he could potentially have on our players. We should take him. It would't be that much of a risk IMO. Players make their own beds- they don't need to be influenced by others. Our leadership group is strong enough to monitor this. Shaw and Didak have learnt their lesson. The only real worry is probably Beams and Caff (apparently). Beams has been given a couple of chances and Caff is only on a 12 month contract anyway.

Who else from our best 22 would be at significant risk to stray? I know that Brown likes to sit at the Black Jack table and occasionally roll the dice with Roulette at Crown, but he seems level headed.

I'd definitely take the punt. He doesn't lack ability and I like the idea of having a tall, athletic, strong marking third forward in the side. I think if he panned out he would add a different dimension to our current forward set up.

Yeah forgot about Eddy he would be worth a shot somewhere. I always felt he looked like he could step it up but was curious how capable the engine was

Wilkes was a revelation for Claremont up front. 194cm and aggressive and just dominated. V good late in year to.

I like Eddys agility. He might be a bit undersized for a traditional key forward but he is slippery, gets in dangerous positions and more often than not finishes the opportunities he creates.

Thats promising. I remember when we were having issues at KPD Wilkes was a player I wanted us to pursue when he was on the fringe of the WEagles 22. He never lacked aggression.

What's people's opinions on Sam Kerridge if he happened to last to our pick? Personally developing that next group of inside midfielders to come through (jt, beams etc). Also see him potentially being able to be influential (ala Dustin Martin/swan) up forward.
